In this section I will tell you or attempt to tell you how to fix this issue until day one patch arrives.

First things first, this might sound like every thing ever, DOWNLOAD THE MOST RECENT GRAPHICS DRIVER THIS GAME DOES NOT JOKE AROUND WHEN IT COMES TO OUTDATED DRIVES EVEN BY .1 VERSION.

If you are still having an issue follow this:

1.Open control panel(windows+r and then type control panel)
2.Click on Hardware and Sound
3.In the links below Devices and Printers should be Device Manager OPEN IT
4.Search through the list until you see display adapters
5.Click the drop down arrow
7.Now if you see anything like Intel hd graphics or intel display adapter disable it and restart your pc.
8. Now it should work, hopefully

If it does not work then I recommend just waiting for the day one patch or patch that will come out soon and possibly make this guide obsolete in seconds.

In the final image you should see intel hd graphics or some amd radeon hd stuff. I did not have this in mine, so I didn't experience the issue.PLEASE BEFORE EVEN THINKING OF DISABLING IT MAKE SURE IT'S THE INTEGRATED GRAPHICS I AM HERE TO HELP YOU NOT CAUSE HARM TO YOUR DEDICATED GPU.

Game decides to freeze and crash mid cutscene or game, well here is a fix that worked for me and should hopefully work for you.

Turn off Async when you can and if you can.

EDIT:Sorry guys I guess the Async option decided to literally disappear forever lol, try to turn down shadows and if you're at the lowest sorry man, you might just have to wait.

Other than that I can only say lower your graphics and good luck.

UPDATE:
LOOK AT GRAPHCS QUALITY SECTION AND INSTEAD OF FINDING IS_POOLSIZE LOOK FOR
r_enableAsyncCompute AND SET THE VALUE IN QUOTES AFTER IT TO 0 IF IT IS SET TO 1. SETTING THIS TO 0 WILL DISABLE ASYNC COMPUTE.

IF YOU DO NOT SEE r_enableAsynchCompute "0" add it to your cfg, if this does not work please comment below and I'll add my cfg to this guide so you can use mine as a surrogate instead as it has helped Leavian(special thanks to him for taking the time to help me with my experiments)

SPECS:
CPU: Ryzen 5 1400 3.2 ghz Quad Core
RAM: 8 gb DDR4 2133 mhz clocked
GPU: MSI ARMOR Radeon RX 580 4 GB edition core clock of 1366 mhz and a memory clock of 1750 mhz
Motherboard: b350m bazooka
FPS in Game is around 149-170 on medium/high graphics which surprised me judging I meet the minimum requirements.

1. Right click Wolfenstein 2 in the game library
2. Click on set launch options
3. Paste this command into the launch options +r_disableSteamOverlay 0
4. Enjoy

DISABLE GPU CULLING, IT IS AN AMD CARD THING. THIS SEEMS TO HELP SOME PEOPLE RUN THE GAME BETTER.

If you have a lower graphics quality try these steps that were provided to me.
1. do windows+R and search %appdata%, look at the directory at the top
2. Click on your user(you could also just find your admin user account and go there, this is how I had to do it).
3.Find saved games folder and double click into it
4. Once inside you'll see a folder called MachineGames enter that folder.
5. Navigate through the wolfenstein 2 folder and then the base folder.
6. Find and locate the file named "Wolfenstein II The New ColossusConfig.local", I recommend editing it with notepad++, notepad will work but it is a really bad format and will make you want to die.
7.CTRL+F and type is_poolsize
8. Change this to either 4096 or 8192, something like those numbers.
I have no clue if this works works but it made my game look better in my opinion.
ALSO YOU WILL FIND r_enableAsyncCompute IF IT IS SET TO 1 CHANGE THAT 1 TO A 0, THIS WILL DISABLE ASYNC COMPUTE WHICH IS KNOWN TO CAUSE ISSUES.

Wolfenstein 2 has a new public beta that fixes some issues
1.Right click wolfenstein 2 in your library
2. Click properties in the list
3.Go to the BETAS tab
4.Instead of OPT OUT OF BETAS find public beta
5. Let it download and install

I made this guide because I am tired of seeing all the negative reviews and this and that about this. I'm also tired of commenting and posting and helping people fix their game so I said ♥♥♥♥ it and decided to make a guide.

Here we are again in 2020 and this game still is messed up. I thought I wouldn't need to update this any further but since I just had a black screen I need to revisit this with further fixes.

So my issue was I got a black screen after the intro startup stuff, what fixed it for me was disabling both steam overlay and adding +jobs_numthreads 2 to my launch options as stated below in a comment. I also hit alt+enter during the startup so that I wouldn't have to restart my pc.
