It actually took me several attempts to complete this game, but ya, I enjoyed the stress inducing systems, the risk vs reward systems. I would say the dlcs offer a little diversion from the "main" quest line, offering a few bits of new loot, characters and enemies to face. What I would say though is that the dlcs always seemed a lil expensive for what they were, though they go on sale fairly frequently. I prolly should warn you that this game was no cakewalk for me, I played on the difficulty below "darkest" or hardest and found the game challenging and stressful at times (as it should be.)

Strangely, though I didn't watch any walk-throughs for this game I found that most of the bosses reasonably fair. What you need to be aware of is that there are times where the RNG feels to be actively fighting against you, certain runs will just fail regardless of the tactics you use or employ. Maybe the RNG got better over the updates but there are times when you aren't getting more than a few fights into a dungeon before it goes horribly horribly wrong. I confess I pushed myself to complete this coz I purchased the Black Relinquary. I hear that Darkest Dungeon 2 doesn't have the same love as the first one, but the first game was good as far as I was concerned. You never know, in 5 or so years I might get the second one.

Really, I haven't written a review for this game?
If you like pixel art platform adventure games I'd suggest you pick this game up at some point. The game wasn't expensive and probably lasted more than a dozen hours on my first playthrough. Whilst best played with a controlled I see they've added a couch coop option which appeals to me when younger cousins invade my house. I think the one criticism I have of this game is one of the cool synth songs has a dud note in it - it wasn't apparent to me at first, but when you hear it you can't stop but hear it again and again. The bosses weren't too difficult and the platforming, whilst difficult at times, was largely achievable once you reached a standard of play.

I seem to be writing reviews for games today... Maybe nostalgia is deadly, but I enjoyed playing these games again. Sure, the games can feel old and janky at times but I knew what I was getting before I even installed it. I was actually impressed they threw in the DLC stuff that I never really got to play on the first iteration of this series. I think this game was on sale for less than 5 quid when I purchased it and it lasted me about 100 hours on my first play through. It's probably worth stating for newer audiences that these games get somewhat more refined with each title, the first mass effect game feeling blocky and unrefined at times, the second and third titles less so.

This game doesn't need a good review from me, it's an incredibly good game and my words can't do it full justice. What I will say is that it's a story-driven point click experience, if you wanted an adrenaline-based action game you probably picked the wrong game. It's worth stating that Disco Elysium has the capacity to charm and offend the player at times, sometimes even managing to do both things within a single paragraph of text. Those easily offended by concepts such as drug-use, fascism, communism and the occasional bit of free market entrepreneurialism might also struggle with this game. Disco Elysium can be difficult to understand at times, that's deliberate, and the process of learning things is part of the joy of the game. Personally, I found this game is best played with a glass of whiskey, but whatever practice or substance makes you sit back and relax whilst playing this game is to be recommended. I confess that I've written this review, in part, to try and persuade my friend to continue playing it... coz I purchased it for him ages ago, but he's kept entirely quiet about his time playing it. Some people don't get the game... and i get that, I also get that some people need to be hit with a stick occasionally just to take that first step into the unknown.

I'm not condoning violence here, but I'm off to find me a good beating stick...

The "Stealth-em up" may have died in the early noughties but I'm glad to see this Indie dev doing what Kojima couldn't even dream of. This game isn't Splinter Cell, or Metal Gear Solid, but should probably exist alongside such titles. The game is relatively short in span, but is easily worth a fiver if the game is on sale. There's some replay-ability to this title at least, achievements to find, and a cooperative mode for playing with kids or the occasional younger cousin that comes round. Part of me wonders if a second title is in the works, coz hell, we need more games like this.

Besides some predatory DLC - this game is just a chilled out tile game. I tend to play against the computer for a couple of games whilst listening to music. The PvP may appeal to some people, but for every clever move you'll make you'll also find you're waiting for one specific (common) tile to appear. It's probably worth stating that this game is only worth purchasing when on sale.

A friend brought this game for me a few years ago. It took me a long time to pick a character I was happy with, but after 3 or 4 hours of choosing characters and then restarting, I started to settle with the class that I had chosen. The length, depth and complexity of game this game was a big plus for me, and the high level adventures were surprisingly well written; I normally tend to find that D&D and Pathfinder games get a bit sketchy at the higher levels, but this game managed to streamline most of the complexity in a way that was relatively easy to comprehend. I did find the above average difficulty really challenging at times, certain fights also proving to be a little too time consuming, but this was mostly an exception than a consistent rule. I confess that my party never seemed particularly balanced, several characters requiring a keener mind than mine to work out the meta, whereas others seemed to be instinctively easy to use and play with. My first completed run-through was with an evil barbarian, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the character didn't need to turn into a pantomine villain at the first opportunity, the story writing was actually good enough accommodate different play styles.

It's probably worth stating that my run through was mostly turn-based, but switching between real-time and turn-based is a useful asset when dealing with trash encounters. Much like the previous Pathfinder game, there's some nice story telling, with relatively large amounts of narrated audio (which helps with the immersion.)

Certain fights proved exceptionally taxing in this game, though I was eventually able to brute force my way through without changing the difficulty. There's a lotta weird difficulty options, and I'll be the first to say that streamlining the difficulty would have made my life a lot easier... Normal difficulty isn't something that has appealed to me since I was 12 years old. I haven't tried the DLC, but suspect I'm not missing much. One thing that does bug me a lil is how your character Gen. can feel completely blind in these games; sure, you can cross class, and pick prestige classes - but imagine a situation where you choose your main character only to find one or two party members appear with similar stat lines / classes / long term prospects. I think It would help if the first couple of recruitable heroes you met were core classes (Fighter / Mage / Thief / Cleric) - I know it seems boring in a Pathfinder / 3rd ED D&D games to say here's a bog standard class. But it goes a long way to help party cohesion. Sure, there's a Respec option too... but I dunno, seems like an easy thing for the Devs to do, instead of playing 3 or 4 hours before discovering how your party will work. Otherwise, It's a good game, very time consuming though.

An odd review if i'm being honest; This game isn't bad, in fact, it has lots of interesting ideas, lots of open sandbox concepts, but poor user interface and predatory DLC really add to the jank of a game that needed more love. Okay, so this game has lengthy gameplay and replay-ability, which is a +, but the clunky menu systems can turn this game into a repetitive click based game. The inability to merge space fleets at a distance is plain boring, the fact that you have to drag and click this stuff a billzion times is plain annoying. Some of the core concepts of the game feel plain stupid; one example being that orbital bombardment does next to no actual dmg (even when upgraded) against ground forces. Hate to say it lads, air supremacy is 50% of winning any war in our current society, advanced spaceships (though obviously fictional) probably have the capacity to level entire cities with relative ease. The game sadly lacks any sensible input regarding ground-based armies, your one option being when to retreat. Maybe i'm an old sod, but when you spend longer merging fleets than fighting, when you have can't just genocide a planet and its populace, when you're forced to wait an arbitrary period before you can attack an enemy, or when you have to make territorial claims to planets you wish to capture, it just feels janky. Maybe i'm playing the game wrong, sure, there's plenty of options, versatility and replay-ability but gawd this game slowly turns into a chore. I know there's meant to be some end game event that takes place, meanwhile I'm destroying premordial apes who seem to have jumped 3 or 4 evolutionary stages coz some alien told then what a cigarette lighter was 20 years ago. I guess most ppl play this game as a genocide simulator, killing your first neighbours and slowly taking over their territory. This game does seem to slow down full scale invasions and occupations of enemy systems. Your preferred enemy also seems to be annoyingly parasitic by nature, the enemy just morphs into another culture, or another place you haven't bothered to claim yet. Oh, before I forget, the alien greetings, and voice lines sound like someone scratching their nails on a chalkboard, whoever thought this was a good idea needs to be locked up. I'm sure there's more I could say, but my suggestion is don't buy the DLC, only buy the game when its on sale, and when you get bored of the repetitive elements drop the game and play something else for 6 months. Haven't tried to play the multiplayer with any of my friends yet, they mostly seem to sigh and yawn at the idea of playing it again.

I dunno how to describe this game as anything other than a chore. Most stories need to be engaging, but I've found myself completely disengaged with the plot and characters. The background is heavy, which is no bad thing, but the way it's introduced to you at the start of the game really makes me question if this game was made backwards, that all the good content sits at the end of the game. The story feels clunky, the character introductions are, at best, weird... you can completely miss out on characters coz you didn't care for hand holding exercises. The mechanics of the game aren't bad, there's some interesting mechanics that allow you to build reputations with both enemies and friends, though it woulda been nice to have seen the Devs expand upon, flesh it out beyond its somewhat crude simplicity. I dunno if this game came out before Pillars of Eternity, but PoE feels like a better game in my mind. I guess a one way to sum up the problem is as follows: Here is a game with interesting lore and potential, narrowed down at times to simple black and white choices. It's like having two plates of food beside you, I choose one which means the other dematerializes in front of me for some reason... Gimme a bit of both, or allow me to starve, choosing neither. I'll complete this game (eventually) but this game is no Baldur's Gate 1 or 2... give the player some freedom for Pete's sake.

Not my thing, and probably never will be my thing. I guess RS2 and several other mil-sims have spoiled me. I don't like the fuzz, the very concept of meta is an oxymoron to me. There's no meh option in the steam reviews, but i'm slowly discovering that this game is less War Thunder, and more World of Tanks... do ppl still play World of Tanks?
Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad game, but I fear the boat has long sailed for it to be a good game either. It's also little predatory regarding its in-game purchases... the very idea that you can spend actual (£ or $) on a better mech really shouldn't be a thing... cosmetics, fine, but anything that gives you an actual edge in the game is unacceptable. Gajin obviously came under flak for buy-to-win, and Mech warrior should too tbh.
