let's say your RAM is 5 inches from your cpu

the signal has to do the trip twice - once from the CPU to the RAM, once from the RAM to the CPU

so you have 11ns between RAM reads, best case
1/11ns = 90.91 MHz
so your ram actually runs at... 91MHz.
