Fun little game about a guy from Kansas that just doesn't want to stay dead. Rogue-lite mechanics are really well implemented and most rooms are interesting to play. Can get pretty tough towards the end, but overall the balance is great. Recommended for everyone that likes shooting things.

I gave this game a try when it came out and didn't really get into it. So after playing through Planescape Torment recently I thought it's time to give it another try. Can't say it was a great idea.

I always like the stories of the Infinity Engine games, but the game play is rather... tedious. Searching for traps, resting to regain spells and the endless wandering around aren't exactly great. So the interesting characters and tales you encounter along the way really make up for that. Sadly in this game there's not much of interesting content to be had, but plenty of really tough fights. If you are looking for less to read and more to fight this game might be for you, but I can't recommend it.

Great visuals and an interesting story, but the most tedious and boring game play mechanics. The combat is clunky and not fun. 'Fast' travel is you watching the icon on the map slowly move from A to B. Just about everything that makes this a game rather than a movie is awful.

Sadly the game gets a lot of negative reviews lately due to the fact that Square Enix released a port of the updated Switch version for 40 quid and there's no discount (or even a free version) for owners of this version. I get it, but it doesn't mean this game isn't worth it's money. Granted I maybe wouldn't pay full price for it anymore, but it's surely a well crafted JRPG.

The presentation is great and gameplay is fluid. As a seasoned FF player I was positively surprised how little 'gimmick' enemies this game has and how well you are able to avoid (most) combat. In any FF game the random battles can get to you if you play the game for a bit longer, but here you can just skip them if you don't want to deal with them. I also liked that you can decide to pretty much have the battles on auto, give instructions or any combination thereof. The skill tree system needs a bit of getting used to though.

Overall it's an amazing adventure that is pretty well written and voice acted. NPCs really grow on you and by the end you neither feel that it dragged on for too long nor that it was too short. I really recommend this game even for people that haven't played JRPGs before as it leaves out some of the more annoying aspects of the genre.

While Nehrim had a lot of rough edges and the design was really frustrating at times, Enderal does a much better job. The team learned a lot from what made Nehrim a chore to play and created a really impressive total conversion. It's a game in its own right and the voice acting is very good.

It's an ambitious project and since it's free it gets a recommendation, but... there are some caveats.

First of all the scope of this mod is quite impressive. It's a whole new open world that rivals Oblivion in size. That being said there are a few areas that are rather empty. Overall there's a lot to explore and most of it is well made too. Also the game introduces quite a few tweaks from the normal Oblivion RPG rules (XP, crafting etc) which make it interesting in that regard.

The music is great too. There a lot of new music pieces and they are all good. Some are really great even. The ENB that is included makes the game look quite a bit better than vanilla Oblivion, but it also affects stability.

Quests range from fetch quests (a few) to well written multi-stage adventures (a few more). There are less quests than in Oblivion, but there are certainly enough.

So much for the good things. Now for the 'not so good' part. The combat feels off. Enemies are faster and hit harder than in Oblivion. That isn't so bad on it's own, but they are also placed awkwardly more often than not. So an archer might be able to hit you all the time while you are trying to fight some melee enemies or there are just far too many small enemies to properly 'control'. It's still playable, but it's quite far from being fun.

Now for the worst bit: If you thought that Oblivion was unstable and crashed a lot you might be in for a surprise. This mod crashes constantly. If you get very lucky you might get to play for over an hour without a crash. I once managed to play for 4 hours without a crash. Most of the time though you will end up with a crash or a freeze roughly every 30-45 minutes.

Plus for the sake of immersion fast travel was removed from the mod. There is a limited teleport system, but you have to find/buy teleporting stones and there are only a very few locations you can teleport to. That being said there is now a mod to enable fast travel again, so this is only a minor problem.

Last but not least I have to mention that there's no English voice acting and the translation is not complete (some texts are still German) plus there are a few errors. It's not too bad though and certainly a very minor problem as well.

Overall the mod is good, but riddled with technical problems. If you can't stand to have your game crash quite frequently you should not bother to try this mod, but otherwise I think it's well worth to put some hours into it and see how it plays.

Edit: Just can't recommend this anymore. Further into the game the quests are full of buggy AI and scripts. The game crashes and you have to reload a lot even when it 'works'. Oblivion was already pretty bad when it came to crashes, but this is just not worth the bother.

Got it for free and an very happy that I didn't pay money for this. It crashes quite often and is pretty short. Lego Lord of the Rings took us 66 hours to 100%, this one 24 hours. Guess it's fine to grab for a tenner, but I wouldn't pay more for it.

Meh. A more good than bad meh, but still a meh. There are better sandbox shooters. The gunplay is good, but the lack of enemy variety makes it dull fast. The world is not small, but pretty boring. The story missions are too few and then they also too boring. So... get it with a deep discount and enjoy it for a couple of hours.

Weird microtransaction DLC tactics in the game too. There are DLC, but you can only get them with ingame currency... The game is really just a bunch of half-assed ideas even down to this one.

So much repetition. The series has long run its course, but pushing out left over locations that aren't even connected anymore as a new part for 15$ seems like a good idea. All the same puzzles over and over again. Releasing it for a fiver would be fine, but going for 15$ for a 3 hours game is too much.
