Do you like sensations of wonder and discovery? The feeling of piecing together a large mystery, far more massive than yourself? Do you gain satisfaction in solving environmental puzzles that yield great rewards in the form of plot development or secret-unearthing?

Then you probably love the base game, and you will be thrilled with this DLC too. (And maybe, like in my case, where the base game is a 10/10, Echoes of the Eye is an 11.)

And I haven't even touched upon the incredible soundtrack, immersive atmosphere and unique/compelling storytelling and mechanics.

The experience of playing through this DLC is something special.

EDIT: Decided to rewrite a review as I didn't feel it was good enough at first.

FEZ is a beautiful collect-a-thon puzzle platformer-of-sorts. You play as Gomez, a retro-looking character who must use a really nifty gimmick or two to retrieve cubes. There are several aspects to this game that are worthy of note, the first of which is said gimmick. You can flip and rotate your 2D world at will, revealing its depth, and as a result changing your 2D perspective. Make no mistake, the developers really pushed this gimmick to its fullest potential, and you will have to perform a large variety of tricks. There is no death, and quite often little penalty for misplaced jumps, but on occasion there can be punishing areas as far as resetting your progress back to "the beginning" of the challenge.

Another key thing to note about this game is its secrets, riddles, and "hidden" objects. This is the kind of thing that you'll want a pen and paper for, the kind that spurs up intense discussion and speculation among fans. Discovering and figuring these things out delivered a pretty serious "A-ha!" moment for me and was incredibly satisfying!

The thing I don't see talked about enough is the atmosphere of the game. As far as I'm concerned, it's nearly unmatched. With absolutely breathtaking music and sound design, as well as artistic direction, it does a phenomenal job at pulling you into its world--It's inspiring; it's moody. Definitely a place for the imaginative.

So, yes, I recommend this game, because it's a game I really, really enjoy playing. I couldn't care less about who the developers are, or what the internet thinks of them, at least in regards to rating the game based on purely my experience playing it, and neither should you.
