Entropy : Zero is a good Half-Life 2 mod!
(At the time of writing this, I'm not done with it yet.)

My favorite section so far was escorting the stalker through the dark with the flashlight disabled, one of the best use of flares in a Half-Life 2 mod I've ever seen.

Gameplay:
The map layout is great.
Also that stealth section was fun! The design of it felt linear; detection depended only upon being spotted along a non-branching path and acheiving a lot of that required crouching. The detection avoidance through this section seems to complement the use of cover during the stand-off sections, where health can be depleated quickly when spotted.

Weapon pacing and placement is great (I'm reminded of the moment they give you the shotgun and have you use it on the last rebel to end the stealth section. It's cool how they used that show-don't-tell method to get the player to use the shotgun at point-blank). At no point did I feel that the weapons I had on me felt unnecessary or lacking.
It might be just me, but I noticed that the AR2's accuracy was lowered and the knockback was adjusted. Feels Like a good change.

Lore and style:
It's very faithful. It strays away from Half-Life 2's retail map lore and style and directs it in a similarly way that Portal Stories: Mel did it.
The story portrayal through both text and speech was done well. Though you'd expect reused rebel dialogue and a speaking protagonist would be immersion breaking, it's all composed appropriately and consistently. The combine voice acting is spot on, I found myself laughing at the CPs' dialouge just as I do when playing through Half-Life 2. The writing on the walls was a bit of a stretch for your standard Half-Life campaign. The most out of place has got to be the text written on the wall from the man visited by the Gman (which feels really Dishonored-like, haha). Written or physical evidence of the Gman just feels immersion breaking to me.

Soundtrack:
Very good. I hear a lot of the same music elements that Kelly Baily's music used; It's as if he gave them his project files to work from.

Nit-picks:
  • At the stand-off at the start of the game, I died at least 5 times in the first room. A grind like that right off the bat feels out of place (unless getting the player used to this kind of combat with hidden rebels was intentional).
  • Some detail props could be player collision disabled. I frequently got caught on small items sprawled over the floor that were knocked over by explosions.
  • Manhacks are targeted by friendly turrets, which made it inconvenient to deploy them during the turret stand-off inside the combine building. Manhacks can damage the stalker courior. The deploying animation kinda stands out from the rest of the weapons.
  • Some sounds are desynced, such as the stunstick's whoosh.
  • Bullet riccochet sounds play when you're hitting something with your melee. (or something like that, it's the same problem found in Black Mesa.)
Overall, it's a very entertaining experience!

I'm reviewing this a few days after its release. I'm a Half-Life fan at the core.
This is some nice level design! I have to say that the most exciting moment consisted of this; right after you disable the combine energy ball generator, you pick up the shotgun, and they show you a bunch of antlions breach into the map, requiring you to fight your way through the areas you became familiar with to the exit. It felt like a very fluid transition to introduce a point-blank weapon here.

Not only was the level design nice, but the set pieces they added in fit very well into the White Forest level design.

In conclusion; and I'm looking forward for future content in this mod.

I actually would say this isn't that bad. Still Steam fodder, though.

Felt a little lack-luster for what I was anticipating, though it explored a lot. I'll see what Episode 2 brings to the table and then write more for this review.

Like the name suggests, this game is about puzzles. And it puts an entertaining twist on TellTale's usual route of storytelling!

While the story didn't last as long as I expected it to, you are free to finish up any optional puzzles you didn't complete and retake any you botched, in addition to trying out harder versions of some of the puzzles.

Overall, this was a good game! Worth the price, I'd say.

Compelling single player campaign set in an extensive and seemingly limitless universe. Co-op is fun and interactive, and the Perpetual Testing Initiative (Workshop) adds even more.

If you think you'll like the story, start with Portal, and if you're also into first person shooters, take on the Half-Life series, set in the same universe.

I am getting into Chapter 3 of this game, and already I like this. A true homage to the Portal series.
Once again, Harry101UK brings a nice soundtrack to the table. The only downside is that in some long-stall parts of the game, (similar to the neurotoxin generator part of the Portal 2 campaign,) they get repetitive. It would have been better if they had reserved those soundtracks for different moments.
The mapping in this game, as primarily shown off in its media, is very impressive. However, some of the soundscapes so far have been completely absent, taking some of the experience away.

The assets and dialogue fit fairly well into the Portal universe, more-so the poster art around the facility. Most of the written dialogue and writing on the posters use a lot of the already existing facts about Aperture Science, and I wish there was more creativity in this area. The voice acting so far isn't very believable, since there are frequent awkward pauses and a little overblown emotion at times. I hope the Portal Stories team is able to hire better voice actors for their next mods.

The puzzles in old aperture use mostly box-oriented objectives, where you need to get yourself and a cube to the exit. (This doesn't damage the experience, it's just something I noticed.)

Overall, a great game for Portal enthusiasts. Play Portal 1 and 2 first though, this is teaming with spoilers. It's free, so why not download it?

"You have been invited to play poker with a hyperkinetic rabbity thing, an egotistical wrestle man, a violent mercenary, and a very hardcore gamer. The gameplay itself is rather mediocre, but the real hook is the hilarious dialogue between the characters." ~The Cutting Room Floor
