Surprisingly playable!

If you like your Match-3 games to come with a story and some variety, this just might be for you. You play a detective sent to investigate a case where people linked to the Vinterfragen family have mysteriously died over the ages, supposedly the work of some curse. Through the course of your investigation, you play your way through a slew of match-3 puzzles, hidden object games, tetris-like colour matches, block-fitting puzzles, & trivia quizzes. The story is worked quite well into the puzzles, and there is even a final boss match-3 battle where you do have to strategise to win.

Yes, the story is somewhat campy and silly, but it did entertain! And the mixture of game types helped break the tedium of endless match-3 mode. I wouldn't say the HOGs were the best - there were a few occasions where there was more than one "vase" or "shirt" in the scene so you had no idea which one the game was asking for, and several items were unidentifiable or badly hidden, but the HOG styles were varied too: there were cartoon illustration-type scenes and also painting-style scenes, which matched what the story was talking about at that point. The trivia quizzes were fun and involved a variety of topics ranging from geography to literature to chemistry (and more) - all general knowledge and nothing a reasonably well-read individual should have to google (I got them all correct). The tetris-like game and block-fitting game were not bad at all and were a much welcome break from the other game types. I think the game succeeded well in mixing things up so the player wouldn't get bored.

The match-3 puzzles themselves were acceptable, though not without flaws. For instance, the power-ups were never explained, and I ended up wasting quite a few of them because I didn't know they couldn't be used to counter certain tiles (e.g. "get rid of single shape" doesn't eliminate cloudy tiles nor deactivate traps, although it still consumes your power-up when you use it on said squares!). Progression is also wishy-washy, with some later puzzles being easier than some earlier ones. Some puzzles were also extremely luck-dependent, so you really couldn't do much if the game refused to produce the gems you wanted. For each match-3 puzzle you can earn up to 3 stars: 1 star for completing the puzzle, another for doing it within the specified number of moves, and a final star for not using any power-ups. Some puzzles were extremely tedious and not very smart (e.g. you can move some tiles to wherever you want, using certain tiles, so that literally solves all your problems), but maybe the devs didn't want to make the game too difficult for fear of putting off casual gamers. If you're looking for something not too taxing on the brain (but which still requires a minimal degree of thinking), this game is it.

I would be lying if I said I didn't have fun playing this from start to finish. I completed it in one sitting (with breaks in between) - it was that compelling (for me at least!). I think a lot of things were done right, including the music, which I actually enjoyed and thought was suitable. It's definitely worth a play if you can get it at a low price.

If you would like to waste 5 minutes of your life, I strongly recommend playing this game. It has nice, colourful MS Paint graphics and a decapitated head.

Last achievement doesn't work

Artwork is amateurish, and the achievement "Played the game for more than 5 minutes" is faulty - doesn't register as completed.

无法全成就

画工超烂,且其中一个成就坏掉(“玩超过5分钟”)。

An exercise in tedium that yields no answers

Some sort of space anomaly causes little things to change and whatnot, and you, with the help of a time machine, can travel back & forth through time to try to figure out what's happening... Except you don't.

Having spent more than 2 hours on this game and still having got no answers whatsoever as to why things are the way the are, what exactly is taking place, why you're supposed to be doing the things the game wants you to do (you can get hints in-game by typing "hint"), etc, I finally gave up.

The game started out pretty good because there seemed to be a mystery that needed solving... but as you progress you realise you're no closer to knowing why you're being asked to go back 'n' forth doing dumb things (the chess quest, for instance, was a terrible waste of time that yielded absolutely ZERO reward), and you have no idea what the end-goal is.

So what if everyone ultimately disappears? What exactly was the "anomaly"? What is the point of this game and its extremely tedious fetch quests (which you have to painstakingly manually type in, no less)? Why should I care???

Some sort of clearer explanation or better narration was much deserved along the way, which the player never gets.

Beautiful music and enchanting story... but game can no longer be played as it is irretrievably broken!!!

So this game worked wonderfully for me all the way until recently when I tried to play it again after a long interval. Now, pieces no longer clear even when they are matched up. When you match 3 pieces, a sound is played, but nothing else happens, and the pieces continue to stay on the board!

A quick check in the discussion forums revealed that several other players have encountered this same error. And nothing has been done on the part of the devs to fix this. Before the pandemic happened, the game worked fine... so did Covid break it??? LOL

Anyway, I would have recommended this game if this bug hadn't suddenly happened. It has some of the most beautiful music I have heard, and gorgeous visuals. There is also a heartwarming story that progresses as you go through the levels. Too bad about the bug! :(

Good message, but wish there were alternative routes

A game with a great social message, that delivers it in a fun and interesting way. There is only one outcome, and the game guides you towards reaching it. It's worth a playthrough if you've no idea what this is about, but beyond that there is no replayability. Would be beyond awesome if this same idea and concept could be expanded to include other messages/morals and game ideas too.

Oddly amusing game that needs more players!

I think I was lucky, because I actually managed to fill a room of 5 players (including myself; 7 is the max) and start a match, within less than a minute or so of entering the lobby!

So apparently, each match comprises several mini games. You are to follow the instructions for each game, then at the end of the game, everyone (including yourself) decides which other player(s) to upvote (or not), based on who they think did best. You can of course upvote someone even if you think they sucked, or choose not to give any upvotes at all. (There is no downvoting.) At the end of the match, players are awarded points based on the total number of upvotes they got, plus several other bonuses that include things like not getting any upvotes at all, constantly upvoting someone else who also upvoted you, and more. (You can't see who upvoted you btw.)

Some of the mini games I encountered asked me to connect randomly-spaced dots to form a cat, draw a "birthday suit" on a guy, and irritate a kissing couple. Each mini game has a very short timer and will end once the timer reaches 0.

I have no idea what to say about this game, frankly. It was nothing that I'd ever encountered before, just because it was so... weird (see description of mini games in above paragraph!). And I have no doubt that there's a lot of potential for it to become quite entertaining precisely because of this quality. What adds to the amusement as well, is seeing how many upvotes you get from other players - might make a good social experiment!

I hope more players give this a try so that this thing can truly blossom!

Totally pointless game, with a completely broken points system

It's exactly what you see in the trailer. Could be fun if there actually were some point to it, but each level is exactly the same, with the exact same set of cards, the exact same setup, timer, etc. Speaking of which, the timer that counts down is totally pointless, because once it reaches 0, it just resets again with no penalty to the player!!! The timer determines how many points you get per match you make, but as I said, since it keeps resetting once it reaches 0, the points just get filled up again. LOL!!! So basically all you need to do is just keep clicking on different cards until you get a match - there's no need to really memorise which card was where, since there's absolutely no incentive to do so.

Cute game but deeply flawed & unplayable

As the trailer shows, the goal is to click on surrounding letters to form a word that is at least 3 characters or more. When a word is formed, the letters that make it up turn into sushi, which you must then match with other similar sushi pieces (which will in turn appear when you form other words) so they will disappear. As you might already be thinking, this is going to be incredibly difficult. And it is. Let's talk about why.

#1 - The letters you click on must be in the exact order that make up the word: e.g. "D-R-A-W" and not "D-A-R-W". This means that your word formation options are already quite limited.

#2 - Once letters become replaced with sushi, this makes forming further words even more difficult, because not only are you left with fewer letters on the board, the sushi pieces may also block you from reaching some letters! Sometimes, whole clusters of letters become inaccessible because of this.

#3 - You only get 3 "swap" chances per level, where you can swap the position of 2 adjacent letters. The swap function is also really quite useless, because sometimes there just are no vowels or other useful letters nearby, and since you can only swap the position of 2 letters that are touching each other (diagonally included), there really are no good/viable options for you to swap.

#4 - If you take too long to form a word (apparently there is some internal timer which you're not shown), small numbers will start appearing on random letters: e.g. an "H" will suddenly display "5" on it. This now means that if you wish to use the "H", the word that contains it must be made up of exactly 5 letters! So the game has become wayyyyy more difficult now!!!

#5 - You have a limited number of moves per level. To get to the next level, you need to hit a minimum score, which you need to reach before your moves are used up. Combine this with the previous points I mentioned, and you'll quickly realise that this game is ridiculously tough!

#6 - A lot of common words aren't even recognised. I formed at least 4 that the game refused to accept, and they weren't even names or obscure words or whatever. For a word game, this is unforgivable.

Conclusion
Eat Your Words hopes to be a combination of word game + match-3, but fails to succeed at either. It is far too difficult and impossible (I didn't even manage to make it past level 2) to get through, and many words are not recognised. Save your time and trouble and go play Wordle (the original one) instead!
