Just very very fun

No one is going to be getting this game for its graphics, that's for sure, but what it lacks in visual appeal, it more than makes up for with humour, creativity, and a pretty interesting story. The ending was slightly disappointing, but that doesn't take away from the overall fun you'll have while going through the game. This, coupled with there being multiple - and by that I mean tons of - ways to play this game to reach the most desirable ending, keeps the game fresh, always engaging, and gives you a sense of freedom, in that you can rest assured that whatever path you take, there (mostly) will be a way to rectify previously-made bad choices.

I loved most of all the crafting ability, where you get to choose some pretty wacky & laughable weapons/skills/allies that can end up working very well if you can figure out when/how to use them, and also the fact that there is a choice at almost every turn, that does affect the outcome you get.

What an awesome experience this was! Not to mention, you can go back and replay the game multiple times, choosing different items to craft each time (the choices are plentiful & very varied), and choosing different story options.

If you're the type who loves old-school adventure games peppered with some basic (mostly logical) RPG-style combat, and appreciates exploring different builds for your character, I highly recommend you give this game a try.

This game was certainly pretty and pleasant to get through, but I wouldn't recommend it due to the following:

1) poor quality
2) lack of effort

Some scenes contained patches with misaligned graphics: e.g. floor tiles are not properly repeated and you can see where they are "cut off"; there is suddenly a square area that was most obviously cut and pasted into the scene, etc.

There is a barebones "story" (if you can even call it that) that makes no sense and is riddled with linguistic errors. For instance, Belle's name is spelled "Bell" in one scene.

Scoring is never made known and I had no idea how you obtained 3 stars for each scene. The scenes are not timed, but there is a score penalty if you click too fast on objects not on the list of items to find.

Overall, this just seemed like a very low-effort production. They could have at least fixed the multiple misaligned graphics but they didn't even bother.

The game is very short too - you can get all the achievements in ~1 hour or less, and this requires 2 playthroughs.

I suppose if you're looking for an easy game to 100%, this would be it. But probably wait till it's heavily discounted or free.

Cute & fun game that both adults & kids can enjoy

If you have ~5-10 minutes, check this game out. It's basically a very large single-piece black-&-white artwork with 100 hidden frogs in it, and you find them by scrolling up and down the drawing and clicking on them. There's upbeat accompanying music, and the frogs are coloured green after you find them.

Nothing happens after you find all the frogs though, and you have to manually exit by pressing "Esc". Just adding a simple "You did it!" with an option to close the game after you find all the frogs would make this game much better than it is right now. Or maybe add a bonus wallpaper graphic that users can download if they find all the frogs. But well, this game is free, so no complaints!

You can own and run this even if you don't have the base game. It exists as a separate entity on its own in your Steam library (under "music") and plays via the Steam music player. There are 8 standalone instrumental songs, all of which are very ambient and pastoral in nature, & pleasing to listen to, with a slight tinge of bittersweet nostalgia & poignancy to them. There is no need to have played the game in order to appreciate them.

Good enough for a free game, though has annoying aspects

This is a short free horror adventure game with tiny puzzle elements and a small action component to it (jumping, shooting). You play a girl who's terrorised by a toy her grandmother gave her, and there are 3 different endings depending on what you choose to do at certain points in the game.

Graphics might be 2D and a bit pixelated, but the game still does pretty well at conveying a scary atmosphere throughout. The game autosaves at certain milestones, and when you "die", you start from the last milestone passed.

While I enjoyed the tense setting the game places you in, one thing I totally did not appreciate was having to wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait until the monster passed so that it was safe for me to traverse certain passageways. The problem is that the monster can always backtrack immediately after having walked past you, which means that you have to wait for him to go far away enough before you can attempt to start moving... and if he decides to come back (you can hear how near/far away he is), then too bad - you have to quickly go back to where you were hiding and wait for him to pass all over again!!! Bad, bad, bad programming and a huge waste of the player's time. No game should involve having to keep randomly waiting for an indefinite amount of time until the bad guy passes before you can move.

Another annoying aspect to the game was not knowing where exits were. You could walk from one end of the room to the other only to find a dead end. Dead ends look the same as non-dead ends, so you just have to keep walking and hope that it leads to another room. At one point you need to enter the living room, and it's not apparent at all that the entrance to it is, in fact, one of the pitch-black pitholes you needed to avoid prior (where the monster could catch you). Because of this, I wasted a ton of time going back and forth and ending up nowhere.

The only saving grace was the story, more of which is revealed as you progress. The build-up is interesting and makes you want to find out more, though ultimately, nothing is explained and you are left to interpret things on your own.

This game is free and, despite the irritating aspects mentioned above, managed to hold my attention. If you're looking for a short horror adventure jaunt and don't mind putting up with the endless waiting and poor navigation, this might do the trick.

A potentially interesting premise let down by poor narration

This is a 2D point-'n'-click adventure game with very easy "puzzles" which are usually little more than straightforward fetch quests. You play a girl living in a village, who sees and hears scary things in the nearby forest once night falls. This is just a short introductory chapter to the main game, which as of now has not yet been released.

The game has nice graphics and pretty good flow, but the storytelling - which comes solely in the form of character dialogues - is pretty bad. A poorly-written script causes the plot to be fragmented, leaving annoying gaps in the storytelling. This is probably because the developers' native language is not English. In fact, they even forgot to translate the commentary for one of the items (the small chest on top of the cupboard in the house) - when you click on it, your character spews out a dialogue in Italian.

So you end up having only a vague idea of what the game is about. There are no distinct long-term goals; you are only told what to do after you complete each task, and these tasks are extremely mundane, like picking up a ball and handing it to someone, helping your mom get a saucepan, going down to the cellar to get sausages, passing the salt to her, and so on. This was the only game I played where I had more chores to do than in real life.

I guess this game is aimed more at kids or a simpler-minded audience, and while I can live with the juvenile presentation and tasks, I absolutely cannot forgive the poor writing - especially when the crux of the game hinges on it. I hope the devs spend some money getting a better script or better English translator (or both), and make sure that all items in the game have been properly translated - that's basic QC. Until that happens, I'm giving the main game a miss.

Enjoyable & well-made - a true hidden gem of a game!

If you like Choose Your Own Adventure books/games, you must try this one. There is a choice to be made on every screen, and those choices can lead to vastly different outcomes and yield vastly different storylines. To get the full experience (and to understand the real story), multiple playthroughs are needed. However, each playthrough is never tedious, because you discover new things and start to figure stuff out. It took me around 4-5 hours to get most of the endings, including the "true" ending of the game (which was pretty ingenious btw).

Despite the simple-looking interface, the game does a pretty great job of immersing you in the environment it creates through good writing, smooth narration, nicely-done character artwork, and, for the most part, convincing voice acting (aside from the little girl's fake screams, everyone else was excellent, especially the game's developer himself, Michael Pulis, as the Cloaked Man). The genre is horror, and you really do feel the uneasy, tense atmosphere in some locations.

There is also variety: the game contains mini puzzles, a very well-done QTE (didn't think it was possible with Unity but this game proved me wrong!), and an RPG-type battle. And of course you have your regular adventure game puzzle-solving, with hints provided in the bits of story you uncover.

All in all this was an extremely fun experience with very high replayability.

Final rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Pro Tip: Steam overlay has to be enabled otherwise achievements don't unlock.

And the point is...?

The graphics are nice, but I fail to see the purpose of this "game". You simply click on hats to pick them up, then click on cats to put the hats on them. There is no story nor instructions even. Everything was over in a minute or two, and nothing happens after you complete the game. The entire experience was far too short and meaningless to have any positive impact. Maybe kids aged 2-4 might find a bit of fun in this?

Anmeldelse for emne med tidlig adgang
This game died almost 3 years ago and is now completely unplayable (all you see when you try to run the game is a perpetual loading screen that says "checking for the latest updates"). The developers have totally disappeared off the face of this earth, and their social media accounts have been untouched since 2016. Why this unplayable game is still on Steam beats me.

A must-play for fans of the SOR series

I was 12 years old when the first Streets of Rage was released, back in 1991. It was and still is my absolute favourite beat 'em up ever. I played and completed it over and over again on my Mega Drive, each time challenging myself to not make a single mistake, so I could reach the last boss with not only the maximum number of lives, but also a full life bar. So, yeah, this review is a bit biased. :)

If you've played through all the previous SOR games, this one is more of the same, and the answer to every diehard fan's dreams. All those years of waiting... finally fulfilled!!!

There are complaints about player characters not being able to dash, bosses having super armour that makes them infallible, etc etc...

My experience playing has been that this isn't really true: Cherry can run, and Adam has a limited dash. Blaze and Axel cannot run or dash, but I managed to reach the last boss without any problems using Blaze (she's always been my favourite character to use - strongest jump IMO), which proves that running/dashing isn't really required to beat the game.

And as for bosses not falling down, that's not really true either - they do. Every character you choose has at least one move that will knock them down. Their super armour just makes it difficult to combo them (because they can break your combo at any time), but you can always sneak in a few hits then quickly escape before they retaliate. And like previous games, every boss has a distinctive "pattern" that you can easily exploit after a bit of observation. After experimenting a little, you will easily learn which moves and what strategies are most effective against each boss.

I got to the last boss in my first playthrough and was a little disappointed at how easy the game was, especially some of the later-stage bosses who were actually easier than some early-stage ones!

However... the penultimate last boss I could not beat. I gave up after a few tries. I'll probably replay the game sometime to try to figure out his "pattern" and how to beat him. A huge part of the fun of SOR after all (for me at least), is figuring out how to beat bosses on your own, using a strategy you've developed.

One thing I hate about SOR4 though, is that they make you replay the entire level whenever you die and choose to continue. It's such a tedious slog to go through all those enemies all over again just to reach the boss, especially when you want to go straight to him so you can observe his "pattern".

That aside, there's also the issue of the game randomly crashing. I'm on Win 10 and using a keyboard. I popped by the game forum and saw that other players have this similar issue. It seems to be related to keyboard use, as those using a controller say they don't have this problem. In the entire time I played so far, I've had the game crash on me 3 times. It just shuts down on its own without any warning whatsoever, causing you to lose whatever progress you've made.

I still would recommend this game though. If you, like me, have craved a new SOR experience that continues from where the previous games have left off, then this game is the answer. It plays like the previous ones, yet contains enough new enemies and bosses to keep things fresh. And favourites like Blaze and Axel play pretty much the same as before, but have a few new moves - including a special attack - to make things interesting.

Conclusion
This game is the answer to every true SOR fan's prayers. Use a controller to avoid problems with the game randomly crashing.
