Trash

Let me save you some time right now: once you reach the level where the girl is fully naked, you can stop playing, because nothing happens after that, even after you complete the level. There, just saved you having to click an additional 10,000 times.

Should be free

"Percent" is spelled as "procent" every single time - this alone is a good indicator of how much effort went into making this.

While the game has several modes (all +, all -, or +/-) and allows you to change some things, like amount of time given to solve (e.g. 30 sec, 1 min) and number range (e.g. <10, <100, <1000), overall, too little is being offered for the price it is asking. And because no rewards are given for correct solves, and there are no proper "rounds" (since if you solve fast enough you can continue playing forever), this doesn't really classify as a "game"; I would call it a tool - and one which can easily be replicated via some simple javascript, a randomiser, and solution checker.

Mind-numbingly boring, with no real goal

Yes, the graphics are hand-drawn, the soundtrack is pleasant, but this isn't a game. It's some sort of 2D walking sim where you go around looking at stuff, reading what the author has to say about them, talking to people, and going to places. You are just thrown into the game, with no introduction, and just expected to go walking around and clicking on anything that can be interacted with. There is no discernible goal. There are no puzzles to solve or mysteries to uncover. No choices to make.

One of the captions tells you, "This is my cat..." and goes on to drone about what it's like, blah blah blah. Another caption tells you more about a potted plant. And yet another waxes lyrical about a guitar. There is no purpose. It's just aimless chatter. There is no motivation or incentive to make you care. I ran out of patience very quickly. After the game told me to "meet the neighbours", and I was met with more inane dialogue, I knew I had to stop.

The right place for this "game" should be Facebook, or Instagram, where you can post all you like about your life, your pets, your belongings, etc etc, and other people can pretend to be interested.

Good production values, but way too short, and ending is too rushed

Now, I was pleasantly surprised with this game's graphics, sound and music - they are of quite high quality, especially the backdrops and music, which were both very nice, and fit each other very well. All dialogues are also fully voiced (with the exception of a few here 'n' there - not sure if that's due to a bug causing the sound to not activate, or whether the developer just didn't insert audio files for those particular sentences, for whatever reason), including your character's commentary on every single interactive item.

But this game was far too short, and ended really abruptly. And I mean really. I seriously thought the plot was just about to thicken, and we were about to enter the 2nd chapter, when suddenly "The End" appeared. I literally was like, HUH????

To be fair, the story itself is resolved. But the whole gaming experience ended up being unsatisfying because of how little gameplay was involved, and how rushed (and a bit absurd) the ending felt. Things might have been better if there were a longer lead-in to the conclusion.

My total actual playtime was only around 30 minutes. (I left the game running while going to get lunch and doing a few other things.) I would say you could complete this game in maybe 15 minutes or so, if you didn't have to wait for your character to walk sloooooowly from one place to the next. There's no way to adjust walking speed btw, and you also can't fast-travel between locations.

While there were many minor but irksome issues with user ergonomics (such as having to click specifically on "Skip" to fast-forward dialogue, instead of being able to click anywhere on the screen, for instance), as well as some bugs (like the Tiki Bar waiter whom you can still talk to even though he's supposed to have left the screen), the biggest issue for me was that everything ends just as it's getting better. Just when you're just starting to feel comfortably settled in this gorgeous virtual world you've been transported to, you are suddenly, forcefully yanked out of it. It's not a nice feeling at all.

I also hated the main character's (the guy you play) voice acting. It was excruciatingly slow and completely expressionless. All the other characters in the game were voiced so much better.

To summarise...
I'd like to see more stuff from this developer. I think the potential to produce a really awesome point-&-click adventure game is there. Bayou Island was a miss for me because of all the abovementioned reasons, but I did have fun playing it and I have no doubt - if the same high production values are adhered to - that future products by this developer will be a hit if the same mistakes are avoided.

Fast-paced murder mystery that's interesting enough to keep you going

The premise of this heavily choice-driven visual novel is that a game has mysteriously emerged on the Internet which may be responsible for your friend's death, and it is now up to you to get to the bottom of things.

Narration
Narration is concise and cuts to the chase - no unnecessary text or irrelevant details. Every sentence serves to advance the story and isn't just put there as meaningless filler, unlike so many gutter-grade VNs I've come across which quickly descend into tedium & frustration as a result.

Visuals
Visuals in the game, though limited, are sufficiently immersive and surprisingly effective. They are utilised in a manner similar to contemporary Japanese horror movies such as The Ring.

Audio
Audio is pleasant enough and fits the various settings.

Characters
Character portrayal and development turned out to be a bit shaky and not very convincing. This could be linked to the way the story itself is written. But for the most part, you won't be aware till after the ending.

Plot
The plot essentially centres around the aforementioned murder mystery, the circumstances surrounding it, and the reasons why it happened. Things unfold fast. There are surprises. And most importantly, plenty of decisions to make. With very different consequences.

What sucked
The only drawbacks for me were the English translation, which is error-laden and very badly done, replete with wrong grammar, tenses and malapropisms (e.g. "encroached" is used instead "approached"), and an ending that wasn't as satisfying as it could otherwise have been - although I must stress that everything was adequately resolved. Without spoiling anything, I'll just say that the game chooses a more forgiving consequence that I wasn't that happy with.

What was awesome
Overall I enjoyed Bad End. It isn't often a VN manages to keep me interested, but this game did. It's even rarer for me to be surprised, and I was - kudos to the game for structuring its plot and choices in such a way that caught me off-guard in a rather eloquent fashion. Bad End played out quite similar to a B-grade Japanese horror flick - you see the scares coming from a mile away, but you still squirm a little when they hit you. And lastly, there are 14 different endings which were all a pleasure to obtain. They're tied to the achievements too.

Could've been a great game...

...but isn't. While the title suggests you're to pick out which the girls and boys are from a set of pictures, what this game really is, is a test of how good your memory is, and fast you can click a given pattern.

Every level features the exact same pictures of girls/boys, except in increasing number (the same picture can appear more than once per level). And you're only given 2 seconds to click on either all the girls, or all the boys, depending on which mode you play (one mode is to pick the girls; the other the boys). Failure to do so ends the game.

Restarting the level shows you the exact same pictures in the exact same positions, so passing a level simply means you just need to remember what all the boys look like (if you're playing the "pick the boys" mode, for instance), and where they are positioned, so that once the level starts you can click them all before time runs out.

I completed all levels for both modes of the game within 12 minutes.

This shouldn't be a paid product.

And if you're thinking of getting this for easy achievements, this game doesn't contribute to your global achievement stats, nor can the achievements obtained be used on your profile.

Utter garbage

"You didn't trusted your instinct" is the name of one of the achievements. That should be enough warning to stay away from this game. The English version is chock full of spelling and grammatical errors. Almost every screen has one. Google Translate would have done a better job. At least, it wouldn't have spelled "affraid" wrong, and sentence structures would have perhaps made more sense. Linguistic issues aside, I gave up following the "story" after 15 minutes. And the reason why I lasted even that long was because I needed a game I could play with one hand (or better still, no hands!) while eating lunch at my computer. The storytelling is just extremely poor.

If you somehow have this game in your library, perhaps one use I could think of for it, is to collect the achievements. There's a very easy-to-follow guide you can use. Skip all text and you should 100% this game in a minute or two.

Stupidly amusing

I'm not sure you can call this a "game", but one thing's for sure: Space Bear has "unique" controls that are guaranteed to make you look like an idiot while playing, and laugh at yourself while doing so.

This is basically a visual novel with choices (which, as the developer himself states in the game, probably don't matter) that you select by typing. So, for instance, if the next choice reads, "Go suck a lollipop," then by right that entire phrase is what you should type. But no! Because it turns out that the spacesuit you're wearing uses predictive text, so just typing in the first character of the phrase is sufficient, and you can just button-mash the other letters. So you can type in "Glsdhfglshgoliahiglasdgkoaldg;kasg" or whatever to make your choice, so long as the first letter is correct.

That's because you're supposed to be a bear, and bears don't type well.

And there is an actual story, behind this moronic facade. Before the novelty of musing at how stupid you must look mashing the keyboard wears out, the plot starts to thicken. Considerably. It even culminates in pseudo-combat (read: more frenzied button-mashing)! And a sushi-slicing contest (yes, even more button-mashing)!

The game was super irritating at times (sometimes the choices make you feel like tearing your hair out), and there were a few points throughout where I felt my patience wearing dangerously thin (let's not forget quitting is just a short click away), but ultimately, the desire to wrap up the story, as well as see if anything outrageous would actually happen in the end (spoiler alert: no, unfortunately), kept me going.

At the end of the day, I will say one thing: I did have fun. And this was a memorable gaming experience for me, just because it was so different from any other. Mostly in a good way, thankfully.

Some points for the developer to note:

- Dialogue sentences take too long to appear. Allow users to press "enter" (or some other key) to make the entire dialogue appear instantly, instead of having to wait.

- Sometimes the button-mashing can cause the next line of dialogue to disappear. This greatly spoils the button-mashing fun because you constantly worry if you'll end up accidentally skipping the next line of dialogue. I suggest only allowing the current dialogue line to advance to the next if "enter" (or some other key) is pressed.

- Include an easter egg (or some bonus surprise/twist) at the end, for those of us who stuck it out & saw the game through all its madness and idiocy. We deserve it.

P.S. The promised "nudity" is a lie.

How to get 100% achievements:
- Start game
- Avoid the cops for the first 10 seconds of the game (because the beginning part is always the same - you'll need to avoid one cop on the top and another on the bottom)
- After the top & bottom cop have been avoided, move your car to the bottommost part of the screen (until you can't move down any further) and just stay there
- Minimise the game and go do something else
- Come back later and check if 100 bottles have been picked up
- If yes, exit to main screen
- Click on "Credits"
It should take between 10-15 minutes.
The End.

Credits"

Good enough for a 10-minute break

Played this while having my lunch at the computer, and liked it. You can easily use one hand.

A very short, mildly amusing mini adventure-/puzzle-type "game". You are given hints and need to find the answers to them in order to progress. Or, well, you could just close the programme and not care. Thankfully, it wastes no time in pushing you forward, and the puzzles and animation are interesting enough to keep curious minds going.

There are 2 different endings and a couple of achievements to motivate you, so a replay is possible. I didn't though, as I felt the game would lose its novelty the 2nd time round.

Good effort though.

Recommended for those who:

☑ like to try something new
☑ like adventure games
☑ like solving puzzles
☑ like very short games
☑ like trying for fairly easy-to-get achievements
☑ like trying for 100% achievements

P.S. This developer has another game like this coming out later this year.
