I tried to like this game. I really do. But after spending a whole day repeating the same mission on the same map tiles for what felt like an eternity, I'm going to stop playing this.

DoW II is in itself not a bad game, inherently, it's just an okay entry. But having played DoW I and being so excited going into DoW II (I have not played this series at all and avoided all the talks about it for the longest of times), my expectation was shattered and tossed into the bin. Relic could have just made Dark Crusade 2 and we'd have one of the best RTS in recent history, but no, they sought to change the whole identity and gameplay of the franchise (and I dare not think what it is like with DoW III and I don't intend to find out) for the sake of change. I appreciate the stride to innovate, but they simply missed the mark with how well DoW I was.

I didn't finish the campaign because I don't want to spend another minute leashing four squads of "elite" Space Marines and deal with another ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bullet sponge they disgracefully called a "boss fight". The RPG loot element is just unfulfilling and uninteresting, you just put on the highest stats gear and move on instead of mix-matching sets for at least a modicum of strategy and innovation. At the end of the day the game boils down to monotonous micromanagement (and not even a good, rewarding learning ceiling like say Starcraft 2). This game felt like an identity crisis and it sure as hell plays like one.

If you loved DoW I, do me a favor and get the mods for Dark Crusade/Soul Storm and avoid this game. If you haven't played either game or have a specific knack for brain dead "gameplay" then feel free to enjoy this game. I can't and I won't give it another chance.

By the way Relic, this is not a "Real-Time Strategy" game, it's a "Real-Time Tactic", and a mediocre one at that, I'd rather play a turn-based one like Divinity: Original Sins 2 and get more gratifying results.

I spent 6 hours to make a solar sail launch base just to realize I don't have enough solar sails to supply the launchers. So I spent another 6 hours to build an efficient production line to supply the solar sails just to realize I don't have enough basic components to feed the production line. So I spent another 6 hours to build a basic component production facility that's efficient enough to feed the sail production line just to realize my raw material input is bottle-necked. So I spent another 6 hours to-

It's fun with friends! The learning curve can be jarring at times, but overall, loving it! Saving up for Iceborne now.

Deceitful genocidal little geckos or benevolent alien loving space fairy dragons. Pick one.

It's even better with mods!

A very fun game to kill time with friends!

Get a two-man squad and dig your way to the underworld while building an entire sunken tunnel base is just top-notch entertainment and replay value, totally recommend!
