If you're a fan of metroidvanias, solving lots of puzzles, and a 3d world, then this is the perfect game for you!

The combat is a little awkward but it's not remotely the focus so it can be looked over. Instead the vast majority of your time will be solving clever and well thought out puzzles, and exploration.

Pros
+I'm impressed at how well the puzzles are implemented. The world is so dense and there are puzzles all over the place. True to a metroidvania you will come across puzzles you can't solve yet until you get new abilities.
+The abilities you get are mostly unique and all are very fun to use.
+Collectibles and hidden chests all over the place!
+Eventually you can unlock a map and draw on it to remind yourself of stuff. I recommend using lines to track shortcut launchers.
+It's a blast taking your new abilities and seeing what you can do with them, see where you can go. And if you can go there, odds are good the devs have hidden something there so you are almost always rewarded.
+The story is very simple but for a game like this it doesn't need to be complicated.
+A good amount of post game content, mainly finding the stuff you missed. Of which you are aided with detectors and things.
+Game (not counting dlc which is a separate campaign) will take 10-15 hours to beat the story depending on how thorough you are, with more time spent going for 100%.

Cons
-The sword becomes 99% useless once you get the gun (which is pretty early in the game). You do not want to be engaging with enemies in close range.
-The ground stomp is underutilized and nearly useless as a weapon even once upgraded.
-In the late game there are a few mechanics not explicitly spelled out that will get you stuck. A big one is realizing your gun changes color when it passes through something. So do other things... Most heinous though is a warp pipe that spits everything back out, except for your force cube. No indication of this and this mechanic was never used before. Otherwise at the time of this review I'm at 75% collection rate and solved everything myself, needing hints only for a couple examples above.

I haven't played the Crash dlc, but it's basically more of the same.

Buy this game and dlc, especially on sale!

Severe stuttering right from the start of the game. Devs are MIA from the forums so I don't expect any help on this issue. Have refunded the game.

I should not be stuttering at all, but on the very first map the very first time you play when things have only begun, I'm only getting 40-45 fps. The fps in the bar is a solid 60. But even turning picture quality to low I still get the exact same stutter in a battle map. Also how the weapons and trinkets work is confusing and not well explained at all.

Tons of better survivor/bullet heaven games, go play one of them.

Finally a "survivor" game with a scifi setting! It's very early in EA, but despite that it's a lot of fun and also quite challenging. I look forward to seeing how far this game can go.

Devs are doing an amazing job at engaging and communicating with their community!

This is an interesting and highly addictive game. The combat is a simplistic version of a Souls-like, but the gameplay is like that of a roguelite. There are tons of meta progression to unlock, and that's the primary gameplay loop and addictive factor. Also each new floor you progress through allows you to unlock a new ability based on the 3 stats. The impact isn't huge on your chosen playstyle, but it can add some interesting effects. Weapons are all mostly different, but some weapons are clearly the best in their stat. Why use a weapon that only hits a single enemy when you can use a weapon with similar or greater damage that hits in a wide arc?

I like the circle of elements. Remember that when you pause the element icons at the top show which element is weak to what from left to right and looping back. Fire is by far the most broken for enemies to have because it does a ton of damage over time and you can't stop it or wait it out like you can the other elements. Unfortunately for you fire isn't that great to use for its elemental effect because you want to kill enemies quickly (so only bother with fire if there are ice enemies).

The game is essentially split into 4 sections where after the first a unique and section-exclusive gimmick is added to the enemies. I very much like this as it adds variety and keeps the areas and enemies from feeling samey.

Unfortunately the game has a bunch of bugs, but nothing that breaks gameplay. The biggest issue is that sometimes the game will crash with "fatal error". Turning graphics settings down to medium seemed to help me, or maybe I just got lucky and didn't get another crash for ~10 hours. Fortunately you only lose progress made on that floor as the game autosaves between floors.

After you finally beat the bullet sponge last boss there is new game plus with harder enemies. Basically they just do more damage and take a lot more hits to kill. So I didn't feel like playing more after I beat it because I had already unlocked most of the meta progression at that point. Still, a first playthrough took me a good 30 hours.

Well worth the buy even if you don't replay it after beating it. It also has a unique way of showing how the main antagonist is formed which I really liked.

This game has a lot of promise but a lot of ways to go until it's ready. The developer is currently active and responds to people on the forums and listens to our suggestions. I'm confident the game will get finished and be a worthy product.

My favorite Souls-like, although some would say that's not a proper comparison. I say it's similar enough that people who are into Souls-likes would like this game and thus calling this game that would only benefit more people. The changes this game makes from the typical Souls formula is only for the better in my opinion.

Positives
+Melee combat with a bit of ranged and various skills.
+You respawn at conduits "bonfires" where instead of losing all currency you only permanently lose like 10%.
+Currency doesn't directly improve your stats but is instead used, in conjunction with rare items, to increase the stats of your weapons, elements, and to buy defensive trinkets.
+The game is difficult but not unfairly so. Pay attention and use your skills and you will be good.
+Selectable difficulties! And you can change them at any time. So if this style of game sounds fun you can enjoy it still on easy, unlike other Souls-likes. There's also a hard mode if you want it more difficult.
+It does make a massive and positive change with the story presentation, where there is a lot of it and optional lore, making a stark contrast to Souls-likes whose stories are barebones and difficult and annoying to follow. On the one hand, you're back into the action in Souls-likes faster, but on the other if you care about such things you can learn a lot more about the world and characters here if you wish.
+The side quests aren't mere fetch quests and are usually much more involved and interesting.
+Side quests sometimes give you choices and these choices do have an impact on the conclusion of those characters later. The main quest will also give you choices too.
+6 weapons, each completely viable to beat the game with. You can only have 2 equipped at a time, but if you desire you can swap them out with any of the other weapons at any time. Each weapon offers a completely different way to fight.
+Skills add more depth to the game, where each weapon has its own skill tree and where perks will drastically change how you use that weapon, but can be disabled if you don't like the change it makes.
+A lot of great and memorable characters.
+The blacksmith is the cutest most kindest furry girl.
+Some people say the combat doesn't feel right, I don't know what they're talking about. It feels great to me, very fluid and always does what I want it to do.
+If you take your time and read every lore and exhaust all conversation options you can expect a ~40 hour game on your first playthrough. But even if you ignore that and just want to fight, it will still take you quite a bit of time. And then there's new game plus and beating the game with different weapons!

Neutral
+-A lot of side quests but some of them can be difficult to find. They usually aren't too hard to complete, but I had to look up a few.
+-No real map. The game is huge and often interconnected and can get confusing, although that's a welcome staple of Souls-likes (learning and memorizing the layout is fun). However later in the game you do unlock the ability to fast travel between every conduit (bonfire) you've used.

Negatives
-Can't do the sublimation ritual and become a furry.

Seriously I can't think of anything truly negative about this game. Worth the price even not on sale if you're into this type of game.

A fun roguelite shooter with randomly generated levels per world/section. A lot of potential customization and builds.

Word of warning though, the game is not solo friendly and it expects you to group up. Fortunately it's still popular and I didn't have trouble finding people even at an odd time of day. Play the game first solo for awhile, so you know what you're doing and aren't slowing others down in multiplayer.

Bought this purely because of the based dev who is being unfairly censored by Valve and attacked by users simply for valuing and exercising free speech. People lie in their reviews saying he removed dlc, when the dlc was only free in beta for testing purposes and it was made very clear then. Valve mods don't care and ignore the reports on these lying reviews. Then they ban the dev for a week from his forum because they think he was mean, while ignoring all the people who are actually mean and rude to the dev. Outside of Steam the music site Bandcamp deletes the dev's account and even if you had bought the music you can no longer download it. This is cancel culture, and it's not right.

I hope he can work out his issues with Valve, because I love Valve and Steam. But sometimes personal bias can interfere in a company as large as Valve. Gaben doesn't have the time to handle each and every single grievance that may happen, because you know he wouldn't stand for this unfair treatment. If I remember right he was the one who got Hatred put back on Steam when some other guy had removed it.

Easily the best Souls-like (since surpassed by Lords of the Fallen from 2023) and I personally like it more than Dark Souls itself. However it is a little buggy, but nothing I encountered that breaks the game.

Pros
+I totally love that with every melee hit you refill your mana and health injections, based on your weapon's leech stat. This gives you great sustain. and is a huge quality of life feature.
+I like the sci-fi setting and weird monsters.
+Combat feels responsive and great. Enemies and bosses (except for the final boss) don't spam bs AOE attacks constantly coughEldenRingcough.
+Your melee weapon doesn't bounce off walls. Sounds insignificant... until you play Dark Souls and get killed repeatedly because your attack doesn't land because it bounced off the wall letting the enemy wail on you. Or worse, the bounce, which causes knockback, knocks you off the edge and you die.
+I like that you can increase and decrease the difficulty at any save point (breach) using certain effigies. With higher difficulty the enemies are tougher but drop way more axions (exp).
+If you want to you don't have to fight the final boss. You can just surrender your data and go to a new cycle.
+I love the maze-like levels and how interconnected they are, like Dark Souls 1.

Neutral
+-Story is meh and almost non-existent, and told in a terrible way. I beat the game and I still have almost no idea what's going on. For some reason this seems to be a requirement for Souls-likes. Just because Dark Souls had a meh story terribly delivered doesn't mean you have to copy them there too.
+-I would have liked more weapon and moveset variety, especially for the guns and catalysts (magic).
+-There's a bunch of armor, but most of them have crappy stats. Aegis Armature is easily the best set and it's definitely worth it to increase your load stat for it regardless of build. Unfortunately you can't upgrade your armor like you can your weapon, so eventually you're going to be getting one-shot on the higher difficulties by the bosses anyway.
+-I would have liked changes for new game plus, like the items found are different, change in enemies, and so on.
+-The Omnicube is cool, but most of the programs are junk and you'll never use them. I don't even know what you're supposed to do with the cooling and warming programs.
+-I hate when these games have secret walls. Worse, you're almost required to find these secrets to progress, at least in a timely manner. But once you learn what the secret door looks like it's pretty easy to spot. This is in contrast to Dark Souls that has illusory walls that are impossible to discern and you must read a guide.
+-At first it really annoyed me that in order to warp between breaches you needed to find and use a breach synchronizer. However by the end of the game you have learned the hub areas and used your breaches there and have some to spare. Annoying as a newb, not so bad when you're experienced.
+-I wish the game had a map, even a simple one that showed you what areas connect to what other areas. Expect to be lost for a long time.
+-The black hole clock is an interesting idea, but unfortunately the game doesn't really explain what it does. When the orange symbol is at the 3 or 9 position that's when hordes will appear, behind an orange barrier like a boss, and reward special loot. Areas also have a gray circle and when the orange and gray circle meet then I believe enemies are stronger and reward more axions. Also that's when black hole (white) barriers are lowered. However some barriers need you to also input the correct eye codes (located at a certain place), and it's unnecessarily convoluted. Most of the loot behind them is uninteresting. Only bother with it to kill the First Archon Knight and the only if you care about the achievement. It also sucks that there's no way to speed up the clock.

Cons
-The game is buggy and unfortunately the dlc introduced new bugs. The devs are supposed to be looking into it. The worst ones are you can't move after dodging and your character stands there waiting to die (only happened once), and the other bad one is your healing doesn't work (happened to me several times).
-Stagger builds are useless on difficulties higher than 1. As you increase the difficulty all stats of the enemy increases, including its resistance to staggering. Stick to fast weapons.
-Almost all of the melee weapon abilities are useless. You're almost always better off using an elemental conductor and activating its special ability to enhance your weapon with that element doing a lot more damage, especially if the enemy is weak to it.

-------------

Ultimately worth a buy, especially on sale.

I cannot recommend the game in the current state, a state not likely to change (except the music bug hopefully).

-Still no evolution or innovation from Alien Shooter 2: Reloaded released in 2009, despite having several games with the "Alien Shooter 2" name. If you're wanting something new and fresh, this isn't it. It's still the same graphics, same assets, same enemies, same guns, similar leveling up and shop system, same music, same sound effects, etc.. If anything it's a downgrade by having less stuff, which was their point true, to go "back to our roots". Go back? You've never innovated or changed significantly since 2009!
-The absolute worst collision detection in these games yet. You are constantly getting stuck on geometry and objects. So are the enemies. You could ignore it in the previous games, but here it's too much. Did they even test this?
-The game is bugged for me and the music never plays and I beat the first 2 levels.
-The spelling and grammar is also the worst yet. So many native English speakers enjoy your games, most of us would proof read for free if we got our name in the credits. There's no excuse.
-Secrets, at least in the first 2 levels, took no effort to find them all. They were all "hiding" in the open. Previous games had them hidden well. It might change in the later levels.

Do not buy unless you are a super die hard fan of the franchise, although this game might make you stop being a fan. I will not buy their next game unless there are serious upgrades and innovation to the gameplay. As it is just replay the old titles, even the original Alien Shooter.
