For fans of Tunic, Undertale, and/or Outer Wilds. This game was freaking sick, an amazing 5-10h adventure with great mechanics and characters. 9/10, loved this one and as far as games go this one'll stick with me.

Very fun genre mix! Roguelite cards / tower defense turns out to be a great strategy and building the map is the perfect twist!

Great little emulation tool for a nifty sprite-focused language. The language is extremely well documented in-game and the documentation is easy to access while tinkering. All this with fun and accessible challenges to get started and really flex your skills as you tinker! And with fantastic music to boot!

Definitely for people who have fun programming and enjoy classic hardware.

For fans who enjoy secret hunting, top-down Zelda games, and Souls-like games.

It's tremendously easy to spoil yourself for this game. If you identify with the first sentence of this review, you will enjoy the game if you really give it a chance.

9/10

This is a good game. However, at the time of making this review it doesn't have enough content to justify a $20 price tag.

It will eventually be a great game, and well worth the money at $20. I have no doubt about that, but it might be years until that time comes.

Buy it if it goes on sale, or if you _really_ love both Peggle and Slay the Spire.

A hesitant recommendation

DD has served me well, I picked it up shortly after release and all-in-all it has worked pretty well, with some caveats. My workflow is building my stories on a pretty powerful gaming PC, then exporting bundles to use on my MacBook Pro I use hooked up to a 4K tabletop TV for in-person games.

I have a laundry list of bugs, ranging from inconvenient (Mac OS fog of war tool is square even if you select circle) to infuriating (Mac OS sometimes requires a COMPLETE RESTART for this program to not crash when loading any story, often delaying the beginning of my games).

During my sessions, it slows my 2019 i7 MacBook Pro to a sputter. If the background I’m using isn’t animated I’ll often use Terminal to suspend the process allowing me to still use my laptop to manage combat or look up rules in a reasonable amount of time.

Given that there hasn’t been any noticeable changes since launch for me, I have little hope that this program will get the love it deserves.

With that said, what *does* work is great. The way the storyboards work is very intuitive, mapping out all the potential battles in 2D space feels like an extension of my own mind’s understanding of our world.

Because of the lack of significant updates, I believe this tool will be surpassed for in-person digital battlemats by something else one day. But as far as I can tell, that day hasn’t come along yet and this is the best existing tool for the job.

Great game at launch, with even more to come.

Just play it, if you even remotely like card games and horror OR mystery, play this game.

Is this a great idle game? Yes.

This game has an incredible amount of thought put into the nitty-gritty math, I was delightfully surprised at how thorough the very core of the game was designed.

Do I recommend it? No. Here's why:

I'll start with more subjectively negative things, and then finish with the reason why you shouldn't play this one even if you disagreed with me at the beginning.

This game's UI is mind-numbingly boring. For some people, that's fine. In fact, I quite enjoyed it myself. For an idle game as complex as this one, it can be quite a challenge to build a cohesive and enjoyable experience. I loved that this game owns the fact that it's focus isn't on looks, it doesn't hide from it.

The vanity content (boss names, boss images, lore, etc.) is quirky to say the least. This is another place where the game is very upfront about what it is, but a combination of a lacking UI and ms paint bosses that were picked at random from the dictionary. At one point relatively early on one of the bosses is literally just a piece of cheese with a crossbow . For some, I could see how this would be a fun and entertaining reward, seeing the next ridiculous boss and accompanying image could be an enjoyable reward for some. For most, however, I think it will get old fairly quickly. It doesn't help that some of them are essentially 3rd grader level humor.

Finally, yet most importantly, this game is devious in how it portrays itself in one absolutely critical way. This game is not free. You will either spend your hard earned dollars on it, or you will not play it very long. The feedback loops that drive the core of this game get slowed to a near halt over time and the only solution being staying idle for days/weeks or buying some stuff from the sellout shop (that's the game's term for it, not mine). I fail to see how anyone could come close to feeling complete with the game without spending upwards of $60 (USD), and I stopped with quite a bit of content left in the game.

TL;DR: The only real compelling part of the game is slowly elongated in such a way that it all but requires a series of microtransactions to continue. It's possible to beat the game without microtransactions, but it will likely take quite awhile. You have to REALLY, and I mean REALLY enjoy idle games to not give up on this game relatively quickly.

Great game, if you enjoy games with very satisfying movement it's a no-brainer at 50% off and still a good buy at full price.
