Like many have said, Starbound is sort of like Terraria in space.

However, one of the big selling points of this game that has made me really love it is the immersion you experience. While the game does have a main story, Starbound focuses heavily on exploration in a procedurally generated universe full of numerous different stars and planets. The amount of stars within the game are seemingly endless.

To go along with exploration, Starbound features a really beautiful soundtrack that often times leaves me feeling really relaxed. Different songs will play based on the situation. What you'll hear exploring a frigidly cold planet vs a desert world will be different, and the music will match up well with those environments. And, in order to progress, you're give incentive to visit different types of planets. What one planet may have in terms of resources another won't have.

Lastly, I'd like to mention crafting. The system itself is pretty straight forward, and like many similar games you're required to utilize different stations to craft different types of items. Overtime, you also have to upgrade your stations to get access to better items. Overtime you can also get a bigger ship which will allow you to put more things on board, whether that be decoration, storage, or utilities.
