This is the first Amnesia game that was made by a Swedish company known as Frictional Games. Their previous work included the Penumbra trilogy.

Amnesia follows the same concept: This is a first person shooter but while this is how we characterise this genre the game does not have any shootings in it. In fact, you do not even have any weapons. When enemies are approaching you escape into the dark, hide and wait until the coast is clear. And you know what? This is terrifying. Terrifying as even if you successfully escape you have to continue and the game constantly reminds you that you are in a hostile area and someone can jump at you: anytime and anywhere.

And this is why Amnesia is a superb survival horror game. The emphasis is not about gore and violence but about the unknown that is lurking in the shadow and you know it is in your way and you still need to press forward to reach your goal. But what it is exactly, these monsters? And how do you fight them?

The protagonist, Daniel, wakes up from a long dream and suffers from amnesia. In addition to this, he finds himself in an unknown castle somewhere in Prussia. He needs to find out what happened to him by following clues and eventually he realises that the answers lie deep in the castle where more dangers are waiting for him.

The ads are not lying: this game is truly about immersion and living through a nightmare. Make sure you have a headset and you play it at night. Guaranteed fun!

An old school shooter that has a top-down / isometric perspective, similar to the one that characterises many hack 'n' slash RPGs. But Alien Shooter is not an RPG. It's all about the mindless action. Notice the adjective mindless! You press down your left mouse button and you do not stop until all aliens are dead. At the same time, of course, you try to get away from the smaller creatures and avoid the projectiles of the bigger ones.

Although the game has some RPG elements (you can visit stores regularly and there's levelling up) main emphasis is on the action. It's a shame that SIGMA made this game very short and that they recycled most of the elements in the game that later became known as Zombie Shooter part 1 and part 2. I assume the game's next installment, Conscription, looks and plays exactly like this one so I did not bother purchasing it.

Still, you can pick up this one or one of the Zombie Shooter versions and have a couple of hours of fun when SIGMA games are on sale.

American Nightmare is an interesting addition to a superb third-person shooter. The location now is Arizona; instead of dark woods you now have desert-like areas and the game focuses on a very arcade-like shooting experience.

Beside the plot - which is the continuation of the original - you have stages you can play separately and as there are leaderboards you can replay them for higher score.

I recommend this expansion pack but only if it's on sale, otherwise it's just too short and isn't worth the money. While the arcade like features are nice I missed the long and interesting story that characterised the vanilla game. For me American Nightmare was fun but a bit of a let down after the core game and its DLCs.

Alan Wake is a superb survival horror game developed by Remedy - the team who made the first two episodes of Max Payne.

You play as Alan who's lost his wife under mysterious circumstances - he needs to find out why and how she disappeared and ultimately - of course - save her.

I would not call the plot very original, however, there are some twists and also the game feels like a TV show. There are several chapters and when you start the next one you hear narration and the good old "previously on..." sentence that really makes you feel as if you were playing an interactive TV show.

The gameplay is interesting, too: Alan has an array of weapons such as pistol and shotgun but none of these work until he uses his flashlight to remove the "shadow" from his enemies. Only after that can he actually wound the bad guys with these conventional weapons. Ammo is limited and the developers hid several caches throughout the game so it is recommended that you find these. There are other collectibles, of course, just to increase the number of achievements you can attain.

Alan Wake is a beautiful game - lighting and the shadows are portrayed realistically and as both are important to the story the developers could not go wrong with them. And they didn't. Voice acting and the music score are also top notch.

Too bad the game has too very short DLCs (Signal and Writer) and it has an expansion pack, too, which gives the game some arcade-like features that were completely unnecessary.

Overall, I found Alan Wake a unique third person shooter and I can only recommend it to anybody who loves the genre.

The perfect homage to many action and sci-fi films that were made in the '80s and '90s. Ever wanted to hold Alex Murphy's pistol in your hands? Or the shotgun the Terminator used in the plaza at the beginning of Terminator 2? If yes, Blood Dragon is for you.

Practically, you are given an island where you can go wherever you want. There are side missions to complete along with tons of collectibles to find if you do not wish to immediately make progress to the main story. Oh, and as an added bonus: the protagonist is voiced by Michael Biehn.

A lot of people complain about the sequel's various glitches. I have not encountered any and have been able to fully enjoy the gaming experience without any issues.

Prototype 2 is a direct follow-up to its predecessor and although in terms of story telling it does not really offer anything new it is still engaging and its combat it's still super fast and fun.

Graphics has been enchanced to a level where you can only call this game gorgeous (its red zone is certainly a beauty) and while your first playthrough will take less time to complete it certainly is a recommended game.

A very decent follow-up after Super Street Fighter 2. Capcom did release some sequels but while the Alpha franchise represented a prequel and part 3 did have a new storyline, Street Figther 4 is the direct follow-up after part 2.

Super Street Figther IV: Arcade Edition has the same roster as Street Figther IV, but with an extra 14 characters. The game is very entertaining - visually superb and its gameplay is very addictive. I can only recommend it, especially since there are barely any 2D fighters available on PC nowadays.

UPDATE: Ultra Street Figther 4 is a decent DLC making 5 more characters available as part of the already huge roster. I have only played a couple of hours with the DLC content but already met all the new characters as enemies - it seems they offer quite varied moves and playing them will be interesting and, hopefully, challenging.

What I noticed is that it is possible now to use both Ultra Moves - the 3rd ultra choice is actually making both available (on the character screen). So, why pick only one of them in the future? Because making both available means they do less damage. Still, the variation can be helpful if fighting a particular enemy. Also, I hated those ultras where it was a requirement to be hit by the enemy or simply let them close. Now, it's best to have both at the ready.

Another thing is that as Windows Live is not available anymore (or simply just not supported - I have not really followed related news), achievements are now logged via Steam and of course updating the game will also be easier.

New characters also means new stages and new soundtracks for these. My favourite is the Jurassic Park one with the two dinosaurs constantly roaring in the background.

Multiplayer seems to be finetuned and I noticed a Youtube upload option for the matches we have played. I hope this time it will be easier to find opponents - whether it is a netcode issue or the fact that this is not played by many on PC is still unknown for me.

A fast-paced first person shooter that is even better than its predecessor. The game employs better graphics, melee weapons and a completely new campaign with new characters to get to know. In addition to this we have a couple of new special infected zombies: they can easily overwhelm you if you are not careful - teamplay is more important than ever!

I like how Valve kept updating this game years after its release. New campaign was released in 2010 and the latest, a community-created chapter back in 2012. In addition to this, the game has been available for Linux since 2013.

Left 4 Dead 2 is a great game! It looks good, it is fast-paced and eliminating hordes of zombies is great fun! It is highly recommended for all the fans of the genre!
