I'm pretty disappointed about this one. Maybe it was just misfortune that I played this way later after having experienced some really fun games from Gogii, but it ended up leaving a bad taste in my mouth. And mind you, it says it's been developed in 2013, and it felt so much older than that.

Despite having a map and activity indicator, the lack of fast travel kind of made me weary since the scene transitions took a while.

I don't think it's...really worth anything for the price. The graphics are pretty shoddy and put-together, there was a visible lack of care in the HO scenes (how many times are we going to look for locks and feathers?) with random objects strewn about (and modern ones at that, in this timeline? How careless!) With so many HO scenes you would think they'd at least focus on those aspects than with the puzzles.

And there's an HO scene in EVERY room. If there's a room, there's a HOS. It got pretty exhausting and predictable. Plus the storytelling went left field at the last minute, only introducing the 'main truth' til later. There had been zero build up from that premise until then, leaving me kind of... ugh about it. They had something going and then just quickly wrapped it up in written text. It was pretty disatisfying.

Nothing was memorable, I only stopped playing for a day and I've already forgotten the puzzles. It just wasn't fun.

Darn, this was really shorter than I had hoped. I had a lot of fun with it, and I love the educational aspect of it with the little historical artifacts and factoids. It feels like a pretty nostalgic point and click, would have enjoyed it even more if I was like 10-12 again, haha. I liked all the item gathering and I didn't get frustrated at all---hm, sans waning moon puzzles! Those take a lot of time!

Definitely buy it if it goes on a super sale! Nice little stocking stuffer for people who want something to do between other things.

It was a lovely looking fairly short and simple HOG but the problem was that I also experienced a lot of bugs and lags. They didn't really bother me all that much but I know that paying for a broken game is not fun at all, so I don't really recommend this one. Plus it's way too short for the price it's asking. It's about an hour or two of gameplay.

There were some really nice puzzles and the HO scenes stood out more between the two. Although, with the HOS there was a tendency to find the same objects despite having a lot of different scenes.

Pros:
> The HOS were fun this time around
> Some unique puzzles
> The skip button works well at least haha
> Pretty short and casual, there weren't any punishments for skipping or using hints or misclicking

Cons:
> Some puzzles are badly broken---The stone puzzle never worked for me so I had to skip it (it didn't register that I had all statues), with the train puzzle, the train ran right out of the screen (it was hilarious) so I had to completely restart the game for it to work again
> Lots of typos and broken English
> The story was mostly ran through chunks of paragraphs...which is sad because the first 'chapter' was interesting to me

Samantha Swift gives me odd fond feelings of nostalgia of the late 90s-2000s era. When a lot of games were all about travelling the world, uncovering clues, ancient mysteries, and hunting for treasure; it gives me memories of Broken Sword, Adventures of Tintin, Carmen Sandiego, and Indiana Jones. The art is very lovely, it has those 2000s type comic books-feel too like WITCH and Duck Tales.

Pros:
> Fun, simple story with that fun sense of child-like adventure
> Lovely character art
> Neat little puzzles
> Museum to look at lovely li'l artifacts

Cons:
> HO scenes were a bit too easy and kind of messy, the items strewn about were kind of awkward
> The quality of HO scenes ranged from really bad to strangely beautifully painted? (There's only one super detailed painted scene, it was really weird that the quality jumped from awkward clip art on a flat background, to fully shaded objects on a fully shaded background)
> Hint button doesn't really work well sometimes, you have to click it a few times before it registers what you want

It's pretty expensive for a really outdated, way too simple game. I think $5 or less would be enough for it. What mostly kept me going was the nice character art and fun story, but the gameplay itself felt tedious at times, especially since you had to find the same items over, and over, or kind of lame that the items you're looking for are staring you right in the face. The puzzles were fun though, it got a lot more interesting toward the end. Rome, England, and Tibet were the most fun for me.

I recommend getting it on a sale, it's a nice game overall if the price is right.

Probably the least interesting of Cateia's array of puzzle games so far. I don't really have much to say about this, it was just very bland. There was hardly any story or conversation to keep your interest in it while you did the puzzles and object hunting.

After playing 3 other games from Cateia, it's beginning to be apparent for me that there isn't much puzzle variety in their games. There are maybe a handful of puzzles unique to this game (so far) but I found most of them really frustrating to deal with. Again, there is a large number of 'arrange the broken pieces', this one more guilty of it than The Strix.

It's a very short game. From what little story there is, I'm guessing this is but a premise of an even bigger plot. The graphics and puzzles don't really make the asking price worth it. The Strix was more enjoyable and it was cheaper. While it's not a broken game, I feel like I don't really recommend it either, I'm sorry. There's no real sense of fulfillment playing this game at all.

I got this for a very cheap, cheap price. Probably the worth of 2 pieces of gum and a paperclip, so with that in mind, it was... okay. While it functions enough with some kind of entertainment, I wouldn't exactly feel compelled to tell anyone to buy this in the price it's asking for. Heck, I don't think I could even tell anyone about it even if it was on a bundle. I suppose it just makes for a nice stocking stuffer when you're out travelling since its small size can perfectly compensate tablet computers and mini laptops.

I played it thrice to get all the achievements (for some reason it registered that I skipped the dialogue the first time), although this game is actually relatively short---about half an hour long at most without cutscenes. I wouldn't call it a HOG, this is definitely more like a Myst-type puzzle adventure. The graphics remind me of early 90s computer games, so it kind of has a bit of soft spot in my heart; the dialogue albeit cheesy had pretty good grammar and spelling.

It's hard to play the game without its item list checker function, especially finding all the sticks in a woodsy background. Without the item list, I would have probably been miserable and frustrated. I don't recommend going in hard mode the first time, where there's no action sparkles and item checker, since you'd likely be tearing your hair out in rage. The puzzles themselves were wayyy too easy, almost... a little broken with how easy they were. It did feel like they didn't even try to make it a challenge. There were too many "arrange the broken bits" segments too, it gets boring the second time round.

I dunno, it's a real big shrug for me. It wasn't good per se, but it wasn't godawful either. I didn't really get too frustrated or bored with it. I don't think I could say I hated it, I mean, I did manage to tolerate playing it 3 times for funsies. I don't have the heart to thumb it down when I feel like it didn't really deserve it.

The lack of game time is because I sadly encountered the launcher error. I was able to play the game by following the alternate solution that the devs provided. I think I spent a good 7 hours for both of them combined! As everyone might have figured, Frozen Fear collection is actually a duology of two HOGs, each with their own collector's edition, and bonus gameplay and content.

I recommend playing Ice Rose first since it's the older of the two. Even though I think Frozen Beauty could stand alone by itself, it's considered a 'sequel' to Ice Rose due to the reoccurring characters and identical theme.

Despite the launcher not working, it didn't hamper my enthusiasm for these games at all. They were absolutely enjoyable, I'd definitely say they even top some Artifex titles in terms of content and quality.

Ice Rose

Pros:
> Surprisingly somewhat well-animated 3D character models?
> Beautiful graphics and backgrounds, especially when you reach the ruined castle!
> Very fun puzzles
> I love that the protag was funny and kind of tired of the bull she had to go through, her clues were really useful in terms of directing me to the next thing
> Enjoyable music
> Bonus chapter was fun!

Cons:
> No map, or fast-travel--- I was a fool and had the tendency to go up and down the very slow elevator because I missed something
> Basically backtracking hell because of the lack of a map
> A bit of pixel hunting in terms of some objects
> The story was a little dry but it got very, very interesting at the end

Frozen Beauty

I have to say I enjoyed this one immensely. It felt very much like a very concluded fairy tale. There were plenty of different puzzles and HOs were simple enough that it didn't drive me up the wall. It was chocful of content. It was... just really pleasant compared to a lot of HOGs out there right now.

Pros:
> It was just really beautiful, there's TONS of places and things to look at
> The puzzles were entertaining and lovely to look at
> The protag for this one is just as sassy and funny, I loved how she complained about why there were so many missing pieces to the statues and the like
> Fast-travel map with action indicators (I feel so much at peace when I know I've looked in every nook and cranny)
> A little side quest hunt for coins to upgrade your pet squirrel's home
> You get to name the squirrel!
> TONS of locations so there's only a fair bit of backtracking, but they make sure that HOs appear next to when you come back to open another puzzle
> Lots of achievements to do
> Built-in strategy guide!
> Bonus chapter was really fun and was a lovely addition, it had its own locations and unique puzzles

Cons:
> The character models are really unattractive, I wish they worked on this more and maybe I would have loved this game a lot more too (especially the 3 deceased princesses)
> There's a slight quality drop to maybe 2 HO scenes, it was very apparent that the images were low quality, stretched out, and blurry that they stood out uncomfortably compared to the rest of the HOs
> Not a lot of variety in the music, and quite immemorable

Overall, I'd say this was a really, good refreshing purchase for me. It's worth every penny for the entertainment value it provided. I was more than happy to play Frozen Beauty twice to finish up all the achievements. I'm a little bummed out about the broken launcher but I'm willing to forgive it just for the quality of the games themself. Hopefully, they'll come back to this and fix the launcher.

I agree with the sentiment that it probably shouldn't be tagged with Hidden Object, given that the nature of the game has no traditional Hidden Object scenes, and more of finding things you need to use. This game is purely a point and click adventure since it pretty much contains combining some items and rubbing everything you have on hotspots.

I actually liked this game, it was entertaining for me for what it's worth. I would say though that it feels more of a $2 game than a $5 one, comparing the quality and time spent. (Ignore my time since I left it hanging to do other things.)

Pros:
> Relaxing music
> Fun little puzzles
> Short and sweet (I normally like long games but not in a way that it's excruciating)

Cons:
> Story is kind of all over the place, it feels like 3 different plots with only one leading to some kind of conclusion. It felt like the writers wanted more but couldn't. Very rushed, there could have been more. But since this game has a sequel maybe the second one fares better.

> Bit of painful pixel hunting, some objects are so small and hidden you might have to rely on the hint button since you never would've thunk it to be there (this doubles that some hotspots are so inconspicuous you never would have thought you had to look there)

> Subpar voice acting with bad accents, some are okay, some are downright atrocious especially Jarvis :(

There was a time where this game was being given away, I was fortunate enough to snag myself a copy. I finally got down to playing it and with very low expectations for anything free, it was... okay. The time you spend playing it more than makes up for when you buy it at its current price. Unfortunately, there were a few frustrations when I played it which made me put it off for a long, long time when I started it.

Pros:
> Pretty decent puzzles (I preferred doing them over the HOGs)
> Decent soundtrack (although some of them looped)
> The island was more fun than the house

Cons:
> Repetitive HOGs (I can only take so many times of looking for feathers and knives)
> The lack of guidance/direction where to go next and TONS of backtracking, really really painful backtracking to look for objects in HOGs in places you wouldn't expect them to even be there
> Limited fast travel, there were only a few spots you could use the map to move faster but it doesn't cover every location and it kind of just defeats the purpose of fast traveling if you could only skip 1-2 locations at a time

Overall, a good enough time waster if you'd rather play HOGs without much narrative. For its price and its cards, I'd say it's an okay deal.

I'm a bit on the fence on this game. While it wasn't a particularly bad game, I didn't find myself liking it either. I felt compelled to finish it quickly, thinking "Hopefully, we're near the end!" That's bad news to me!

PROS:
Pretty looking and creative HO scenes (most), and lovely unique puzzles. Like the death masks, and darts and such. The diary was pretty lovely too.

CONS:
It's confusing. It's hard to navigate where to go or what to do or if there's anything to check out. There's no map, and often times you need to backtrack to locations you've already been to, only to find out there's a new item that magically appears in that place. It can get frustrating.

I often found myself forgetting which item went to which puzzle. A lot of instructions for some puzzles were written so vaguely, it took some guess work to figure out what you're supposed to do.

The story was just...weak. It had an interesting premise and then it built into something lacking of logic that I just...Mmm...that ending.

Looking at other reviews, it definitely is a pretty mixed bag. I'd only recommend it because it does have its nice moments and does offer some gameplay that deserves attention.
