Cook, Serve, Delicious is a charming restaurant management/cooking game that puts you in charge of a restaurant in an office tower. It is simple and easy to pick up, while at the same time taking tons of mastery to fully perfect and maximize a day.

Cook, Serve, Delicious starts you off with a no star, unknown diner operating within an office tower. You start off with some cash, and choose what dishes you'd like to serve. Each dish has an effect on your restaurant's appeal to customers, with certain dishes being attractive for a few days, others being staples that are always popular, while some have negative or positive effects at certain points in the day. The dishes are served up by you as the day runs by, with each dish having a different cooking process, with some dishes having several variations thanks to a multitude of ingredients. You must try your best to cook the meal to perfection while also doing it as fast as possible, while juggling multiple orders and restaurant chores as well.

As you move on, you unlock more recipes, or upgrade current recipes to add to its price, but also adding complexity to each dish. You can also upgrade your restaurants equipment to help with your day-to-day, increasing your customer's patience, decreasing the frequency of chores, and so on. You aim to complete goals to increase your restaurants rating, thereby giving you a higher-class clientele and access to cooking challenges and such.

The game displays itself in a 2D, cartoon world. It is colorful and charming, with many of the food looking quite delicious while still keeping a stylized flair to it. The game's interface is clear and concise - each dish will show you what keys to press to perform actions, and the UI is kept lean and simple, making the game very easy to play.

Cook, Serve, Delicious is an excellent cooking game and will draw you in with ease. Soon, you'll be finding yourself wanting to cook faster and faster while balancing complex recipes such as soup and pasta, which is quite daunting thanks to the many ingredients in both. This game is a splendidly designed game. If I had to compare it to another game, I would say it acts like a much more cheerful version of Papers, Please in terms of gameplay - simple, but increasingly complex, yet also very satisfying.

Fully recommend this game. Have fun.

RELEASE VERSION UPDATE: Initial beta/backers review found after.

This is it. This is the big one. For many people, this is one of the most anticipated games of the year - the great inspiration for Fallout, the driver of classic RPGs, the callback to a genre slowly reviving. One of the first big huge Kickstarted games. After two years in development, how does it hold up? Spoilers: it holds up damn well.

Wasteland 2 is a classic RPG in the style of Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics. In fact, the original Wasteland was the inspiration for the Fallout universe, and shares many similarities and concepts with Wasteland. You take control of four fresh-faced Ranger recruits, sent out on a task to make yourselves worthy of your badges. What ends up happening is a journey across Arizona, and then some.

The game starts off with character creation. You can choose to create your own Ranger from scratch, or pick a pre-made Ranger from a list. The pre-made characters are alright, but for most people, you'll want to make your own customized Rangers. You can distribute attribute and skillpoints as you see fit, change your Ranger's physical appearance, and even stick in his/her own little bio and a custom portrait.

After setting yourself up, you end up in the Arizona wasteland, right outside Ranger Citadel. You are greeted by General Vargas, a veteran Ranger and an old character from Wasteland. Another Ranger vet, Ace, has just died in action, and you and your team are sent out to investigate his murder and finish his mission as a trial. Succeed, and you all become official Rangers.

At first glance, one can immediately note the biggest downside to the game - graphical fidelity. While I personally feel that the graphics do not detract from the game, and in fact works to further the atmosphere it sets about creating, it is easy to see that the game is not about the shinies. Its easily trumped by Divinity: Original Sin in terms of fidelity, but that is not to say the game looks bad. It is simply objectively dated, even for a Unity-based game. Performance also leaves something to be desired - on a GTX 765M, the game hovers at about 40-50fps, sometimes dipping below to 30. Whilst expected for a new release, it certainly does not look like it should be choking up a moderately good mobile GPU as far as it is. However, the graphical style the game takes is very immersive - you have varying environs, from lush greens to barren browns, and everything in between. The wasteland feels desolate and real.

Wasteland 2 is set in an isometric, top-down view. You control your Rangers overhead, order them around by clicking in the world. There are two world types - the main world, showing you Arizona and the rest of the area, where you go around between smaller local maps, looking for oases for water, and avoiding rad clouds, then the local maps, which is where you explore, do missions, talk to people, shoot people, all that good stuff. Combat is turn based, engaging when you run into hostiles or turn other people hostile by shooting at them/having a negative interaction. Characters take turns in commiting actions, with each action costing certain Action Points to do. Your characters can use a slew of weapons, from going in fisticuffs, to heavy armanents such as bazookas and heavy MGs, all of which can be skilled up. Positioning is key, with certain weapons being effective at certain ranges, and cover helping you avoid damage. Damaged Rangers can only be healed up with medkits, pain pills, and trauma kits if they bleed out. There is no idle healing, which means every fight has to be planned, and you have to have enough supplies to last.

Overall, I feel that Wasteland 2 offers a refreshing jump back into cRPGs, bringing the spirit of post-apocalyptic games from the past well into the 21st century. If you love turn based games, old RPGs, post-apocalypse settings, then you'll love (or absolutely hate - in a good way!) Wasteland 2. Give it a try.

Wasteland 2: One of the first gigantic projects on Kickstarter, the revival of an era, the granddaddy of Fallout, the great leap back for inXile.

Is it any good (so far?) The short answer: yes, yes it is.

Wasteland 2 is one of the biggest, most high profile projects funded through Kickstarter – indeed, funding for the game came after Double Fine Adventure’s own successful Kickstarter. The game raised roughly 3,000,000USD, well exceeding its goal of 900,000USD.

The game follows up on Wasteland, which was the basis for many elements in the Fallout series. Many elements seen in Fallout can be seen here – radioactive wasteland, Rangers building up a civilized society, raiders, tech-fanatics, militant religious fanatics are all present in the game, clearly showing how much it influenced other games later on.

Gameplay is very much Fallout like as well. You explore the world with your party, with the world map being just that – a map that you navigate your party blimp through. Movement is dependent upon your water supply – you lose water, you die. Thankfully, there are hidden oases all over the map, giving enough opportunities to refill water to quench one’s wanderlust. In local areas, one goes about with the whole party, with your selected member doing the interactions. Conversations follow a keyword system – anything you observe in the environment might pop up as a keyword for characters in the locale, while some words in conversations can lead to further inquiries as well. Some conversation options require certain skills to be at a certain level, and can lead to clearing certain obstacles in a peaceful manner. Combat is turn based, following an AP system similar to, again, Fallout. On this, I cannot say much – I’ve only played less than two hours, and so far, the early mobs were easy enough to wipe without having to worry about cover and positioning. Even then, I did take a noteable amount of damage, and would probably lose my party members if I continued to do so.

Wasteland 2 runs on Unity – so far, in this current beta build, there are no graphical options to speak of, besides resolution and an overall graphics preset. Setting it to Fantastic with an i7-4700MQ and GTX 765M, the game looks fantastic – it pushes Unity to the edge. However, this being a beta, performance is not spectacular – fully zoomed out, FRAPS was showing around 24fps to a max of 30fps, which is barely passable. Dropping presets down to standard did not help performance, so I am assuming this is a “beta is beta” issue, and will be patched before the actual launch.

Is Wasteland 2 worth your time right now for 60USD? I would say, yes – if you can get past the beta-ness of it (you’ll have to download and print the reference sheet as there isn’t much of a tutorial in game), it is a good sign of the return of cRPGs and TBS games with rich narrative and an open approach to quests. While it wouldn’t hurt to wait, if you’ve been on the fence on it and can’t wait, it’s a solid game beta.

Assassin's Creed 3, the fifth main release in the series (not counting the various releases on mobile platforms), marks the end of the main story arc of Desmond the Moon Bear. It is the first game to veer away from Ezio and introduces a new playable character, Connor. The game, in my opinion, has done the impossible - it has managed to supercede Assassin's Creed 1 (which was excusable as it was the first foray into these games) and Revelations as the dullest Assassin's Creed game yet.

The game is set in colonial America at the start of the American Revolution. You go through various towns that are key to the revolution. The cities are big, but feel empty - the colonies feel like they aren't as populated as the past cities explored by the previous games. They lack a certain character. In fact, a lot of the game lacks character - the main issue being Connor himself. You start out with Connor's dad, which gives the game an excellent intro - Haytham is an astounding character, full of wit and life. In contrast, Connor is dry, monotonous, and almost always angry. It feels like they were trying to recreate Altair, but failed to do so. Altair may have been brooding, but his character changed, and he held the role of 'badass' very well. Connor is just a bore to be with.

The game itself is very poorly designed, I feel. There is no sense of progression. There is no incentive to be stronger, to do side quests, to discover stuff. The weapons you start out with never feel weak, which gives no incentive to gain money, thereby making side-quests and the whole trading and upgrading mechanic near useless. As such, the game feels like a boring bum rush through the story.

The main story arc is so-so. It didn't interest me as much as the historically rich past settings, but that could be because I'm not American, and all the relatively small but important events are lost on me as an outsider.

Overall, I cannot recommend this game - I bought it at 33% off because me and my sister wanted to end Desmond the Moon Bear's story arc, and even then it is a bit of a disappointment. Do not buy this game. If possible, jump back to the old games, get Liberation, or even jump to Assassin's Creed 4, which I hear is actually fun and includes more focus on the naval missions, one of the few good aspects from 3.

It's pretty engaging - the combat is a bit shallow, but its not too bad. A good little cRPG.

Author's note: Steam doesn't show gameplay time in DLC, since it launches through the main game anyway. However, would say I've spent a good 20-30 hours on Brave New World, about 4-5 games from start to finish.

Brave New World is the latest addition to Civilization V/ It adds in a plethora of features, civs, and concepts, drastically changing the way one approaches the game. It includes mechanics from Gods and Kings, so if you are choosing between either, Brave New World will have religion with it. Something to consider.

Brave New World introduces a few new mechanics, reintroduces some old ones, and reworks others. The biggest change would be the inclusion of trade routes, giving you gold, research, and religious influence between two cities. Venice is designed around setting up trade routes, while Arabia has been redesigned to take advantage of this new mechanic. It is a useful mechanic, and does aid the gradual slowed growth of small civs.

They've reworked social policies and the way cultural victory works - you now have tourism points, which needs to grow higher than opposing civ's culture in order to increase your level of influence. This changes the way one can approach a cultural victory - instead of being limited to three cities, it is now possible to have a sprawling empire while still aiming for a cultural victory. Late game policies have changed as well, with your civ taking up one of three paths, which affect your late game perks greatly, and your diplomatic relationships as well.

Spies now have an option to act as diplomats, increasing your civ's tourism output to that civ's capital, while spreading your late game ideology as well. Citys can revolt and join your empire as in the older games, but its been reworked to do so only if your influence with your ideology is high enough.

Overall, Brave New World's new and reworked concepts make the game much more enjoyable, and adds much needed depth to the game. Grab it as soon as you can.

The Swapper is an astounding piece of work, and an exemplar of puzzle platformers.

You take control of a confused soul, thrown in the middle of an abandoned mining station, making do with the titular swapper, a cloning-swapping device that aids you throughout the various puzzles. As with all puzzle platformers featuring a core concept, it has the potential to be gimmicky and poorly executed - but The Swapper manages to present its puzzles in an interesting and varied fashion. Difficulty scales quite well, and some puzzles can be quite tricky without peeking at a guide.

The game's art style is terrific. The art assets were all moulded from clay, giving the game a unique look befitting the setting. The atmosphere is haunting. It almost feels as if it was a survival horror game or some such thing. While it is not a demanding game, it is a gorgeous game, with excellent use of lighting and colors to set the mood.

The soundtrack is heavenly. Absolutely heavenly. Excellent pieces of ambient music that would go right up with Brian Eno, Steve Roach, and such. It adds so much to the aura of each area, and one can actually sink into the music while playing.

Overall, The Swapper is a truly astounding game, and well worth looking into at its store price.
