I'm about two hours in and can easily recommend Legends of the Universe: StarCore.

Like some of the other reviews on here, I can agree the game is "rough around the edges" so to speak, but it is far from a deterrent to the core gameplay, which is this game's star.

Powerups/upgrades come at a steady pace which really helps keep the flow of the game moving forward. It has yet to feel stagnant as I've explored and re-explored areas with new abilities. The level design is varried and evolves as you progress and never feels overly designed to extend/pad play time. Like a good platformer it rewards exploration.

It does have it's quirks like the weapon firing on release and not press of the button or the ability to walk off a ledge then jump midair - but you quickly adapt and accept. If anything it actually gives the game its own unique feel.

With my limited time to game these days I am always on the lookout for a new arcadey game I can hop into for a few levels, get my fix and go on about my work. ASCII Attack scratched this itch a little too well as I found myself lost in bliss of all the ASCII booms and pew pew pews for over an hour.
