This is a Space Rangers without the charm, and with more tedium. This is Brutal Legend without Jack Black. This is Minecraft for people who found it too casual. This game lacks basic mechanical functions like camera controls, ordering groups, multi-targeting, etc; and is overall a chore to play.

I wanted to love it, I can't even bring myself to like it.

Due to the removal of auto-blocking I can not play the game, as I suffer from a medical issue that prevents frequent and rapid wrist movements. This was a standard feature in the previous games, and was not disclosed it would be removed for this game.

Mediocre, overpriced DLC. Extra content it added are now a part of their in-game mirotransaction store.

A simplistic but charming simulation game. A little rough around the edges but the resource management is solid and the challenge is customisable. In early access I called it "A fine game to give to your child.", but with the added features since then I think this should satisfy most players for all ages. The art style is delightful and the game runs a fine line between taking itself seriously and being lighthearted, and it can drain quite a few hours from your life.

Overall good fun on the simpler side, but it has teeth where it counts.

Microtransaction nightmare.

A fun little repetitive pirate game. Don't expect too much though, but fun to play with friends and if you have 60 of them it turns into a living breathing world with faction relationships and politics, how exciting! Recommended if you have a person to play it with, a very weak recommendation if you don't.

The very first map, Horn of Magnus, contains notable missing textures where you can see out of bounds and this habit continues in the next map, Gardens of Morr. I can not tell you what the third map looks like because out of the 3 times I've played Gardens of Morr a boss has spawned in the final room upon getting halfway into the map. Two of these times this is accompanied by an impassable wall that can not be circumvented until the boss is killed. The boss never deigns to walk to you so it has proved extremely difficult to try to finish the map. Considering repro is 3\3 I can say with some certainty that this DLC, while it has some nice touches of quality, lacks even basic polish almost a year post release.

Considering this is paywalled content, ports of old maps, I expect some absolutely minimum quality assurance. Furthermore while I can tolerate selling maps for cash, this DLC is also the only way to attain 5 weapons, and I am deeply opposed to creating a haves-and-havenots for gameplay.

This DLC is decidedly not worth the money, and even if the content did work as intended; it would still leave a bad taste in my mouth.

The gameplay is solid, it lags quite a bit when played on large servers (the default), and connection issues are plentiful. There is a somewhat tedious cosmetic progression system which is largely inoffensive as none of it is a gameplay advantage but the playtime required for some of it is beyond reasonable for even a regular player. Personally not bothered but could see why someone would be.
At time of writing only 5 maps are available for the main game, with 2 more coming. The selection of weapons to use with the excellent fighting mechanics are not necessarily abundant but they are varied enough that no one should feel bored by the selection.

As a game it's worth the price, when you take away literally everything else relevant about the game. Which is the part I'm getting to now:

The game's community is a disgusting cesspool. Anyone who has spent any time at all on the internet is well familiar with all manner of slurs, insults, and in general people you'd want to stay far away from. So I want to make this absolutely clear and unambiguous: This game does not only contain your garden variety kids saying naughty words and developmentally stunted 20-somethings, it contains a sizeable portion of actual bigots engaging in hate speech.

If you're offended by racial slurs you will be disappointed to know they are not just used readily in-game and on the official Mordhau forums and other venues of discussion; they are used to discuss race inferiority. If you think anti-semitic slurs are sapping the fun out of your silly game about hitting each other with sticks; don't worry; it gets worse. On the forums at the time of writing you can find multiple threads where people openly discuss how society is run by Jews not only as if it was true, but with emphasis on how the part "Jew" is the bad part of this conspiracy. Jokes about female inferiority keeping your mood down? Well don't even bother joining a game because they wont be jokes this time around. And of course special mention to transgendered people who are targeted and abused in-game even if they don't say a word which I sadly witnessed on two separate occasions by different people, it played out like a PSA video for a suicide hotline.
Quite honestly the only people who are not worse off in the Mordhau community are gay people who are not unfairly targeted more than usual.

Why write all this in detail? Because these are all things that go on daily, in-game and on the forums. Something I could perhaps happily ignore if it was not for a big fat rules page on all official Mordhau media that explicitly puts this kind of behaviour as against the rules punishable by anything up to a game-ban. A wilful commitment to stamp it out yet it goes on worse than any contemporary game. To the moderation team's credit, especially the Steam moderator(s), there is some effort put into removing players who are "disruptive" in-game and on the forums, but really for every single one they put away another ten are left up. While moderators claim further moderation features are coming the developers are tight-lipped and have implemented only a single player mute in-game and to disable the chat. The average abusive player faces no repercussions, and there is no formalised report system.

So yeah, if that doesn't bother you, perhaps even makes you tingle in your pants a little, then I could recommend Mordhau. For me though, I usually am not bothered by bad communities, but the fact that this one harbours and enables actual bigots is surreal. Personally I think when I buy a game on Steam it shouldn't come prepackaged with manifestos on "the inferior peoples".

Oh, and the game is RIFE with griefers too. Did I forget to mention that part? The game's a fricking toilet.
