EDIT: The game released, it was even better than expected after all that time in Early Access. Well worth the wait.

Larian has hit it out of the park again. Even in Early Access BG3 blows DoS2 out of the water visually and with the depth of choice you have to forge your own path through the story.

Exciting to imagine where this game will be in 12 months.

Very underrated indie survival game. Tons of character and the soundtrack is one of the best.

Monster Hunter likely needs no introduction. While the PC version is several cycles behind the console version in patches and new content, it is still a very good port of an excellent game. It has no problem maintaining 60FPS at 4K with maxed settings, you can customize the controls fairly thoroughly including different control schemes for ranged and melee weapons (this is pretty important due to poor default controls).

As for the game itself, MHW is what more games should strive for. Easy to pickup, hard to master, tons of interesting tools, items, enemies, weapons, combos, stats, etc. The list goes on.

(I have about 100 more hours than Steam mentions on the PS4 version and I'm still fairly engrossed and I only expect that increase when Iceborne releases.)

Hunt: Showdown is easily the best "BR-like" game there is at the moment. That is the simplest way to put it. Even if you heavily dislike BRs, which I do, Hunt may still be something that grabs your interest.

Some standout points that make this game great:

1. The Setting - With the aid of the CryEngine, the setting is the best realized and most cohesive setting out there. Set in 1895 in Louisiana, the game is dripping with atmosphere. Everything is appropriately dark and twisted looking to sell the horror and keeps you unsettled. The monsters are visually well designed and look great, the aesthetic of the hunters and their weapons is great, lots of classic "cowboy" weapons and then lots of fun, makeshift gadgets to help keep the game fresh.

2. PvPvE - Every map is filled with zombies and other creatures, the ultimate goal is to find a boss monster spawned randomly on the map, kill it, and then take the "tokens" it leaves to an extraction and get out alive. Each individual hunter you bring into a mission has one life, die and you lose the equipment you brought and any perks the hunter may have earned in previous games. While this sounds very punishing, and it was early on in the game's life, the economy and rewards have been adjusted to account for this. One or two wins will often leave nearly halfway to max level for a hunter, similarly a single win can often earn you enough money to outfit your hunter with decent equipment for a couple of games. The lack of a mad scamble beginning where you are relying on RNG for good weapons makes the beginning of a match much more tense. That great loadout you brought is also at risk of being gone forever if you make a sloppy mistake and get mobbed by zombies or fall to an ambush from an enemy team.

3. Small scale - Lots of people think "OMG WE NEED 100 PLAYERS IN EVERY GAME". Hunt completely goes against this and it's much to the game's benefit. 10 player max right now, though 1.0 release will raise this to 12 (and add the ability for teams of 3, right now it's duo or solo only). That's 5 teams for duos, this means that the reasonably sized map is not crawling with enemy players. THIS IS GOOD. It keeps the tension of "there probably isn't anybody nearby, but there could be". Due to this, and old time weapons that are slow to shoot and reload, Hunt has a very deliberate pacing with an almost stealth game feel to it. If you know there is a team in a compound and you can get into position without triggering any zombies, sound traps (birds, dying horses, kennels with dogs, chicken coops, broken glass, hanging chains, etc) you will be able to have a proper ambush and that advantage will help you win a lot more.

Bounty Hunt is the main "Hunt Experience" with perma-death, hunting for your contract target which will be one of three "boss" monsters. A large spider (that actually acts like and moves around like a spider), a giant zombie with a severed pig's head that is an unstoppable behemoth, and the shadowy assassin that clones itself and dissolves into a swarm of insects as it moves around. Hunters are dead forever if you lose but the experience is incredibly rewarding when you fight your way through hordes of zombies, several enemy hunters, kill and banish the boss monster back to hell, and then escape at any extraction point on the map.

If you are worried about perma-death being too punishing, Crytek has introduced a lot of new features to help even out the difficulty curve here.

For example: If you like your current hunter a lot and have good weapons but are in a bad spot (perhaps you have no HP left or are just not confident in trying to steal the bounty from a team that already grabbed it) you do not have to be "the last one standing", you can leave at any time at any of the extraction points that are marked around the map. You'll earn money for every clue you gathered (about the boss location), as well as XP for any zombies and players you killed.

You can play quickplay instead of Bounty Hunt. Quickplay is solo only and is more like traditional BR. While there is no circle, your hunter is free and you find weapons in the round. The goal is to find four clues first and it will activate the "well spring" which is the game's timer. It starts with 450 seconds on the clock and once you grab it, it starts filling energy for you. Each second of energy = $1 of hunt money. When the timer hits 0, whoever is holding the wellspring will "save their soul" and the others are damned and engulfed in flame. So here there can only be one winner but you do not use your hunter, you use a new one each game. If you survive, you can recruit the hunter you escaped with for FREE and he gets all the weapons and XP he earned from the quickplay round. This makes quickplay a great place, even if you die, to earn money with no risk. Just playing it a few times can recoup several Bounty Hunt losses.

There is also a training period where your hunters will "cheat death" in Bounty Hunt until your bloodline (your overall player account level, this never goes down and is not tied to hunters, it unlocks weapons for you to purchase) level is 16. So you will have some time to adjust. And even then, after every game you can generate a new batch of four hunters to recruit and you will always have a low level hunter that you can recruit for free who will have poor weapons and no perks. This is a great way to keep costs down from losses.

There's a lot to this game and it's quite the unique experience. It's most definitely worth playing for anyone even kind of interested in a more unique shooter experience.

Kind of slipped under my radar for awhile due to it being a console exclusive but this is actually pretty decent. Don't go into it expecting anything ground breaking but if you just want some casual fun, this is definitely a nice diversion.

Genuinely the best DLC. It adds Ratling Guns and Jezzails, as well as nukes. Need I say more?

Still in EA, it certainly doesn't feel that way. I've tried to get into Dwarf-Fortress likes for a long time but always end up bouncing off but Klei comes along with their signature art style and suddenly I'm hooked. Game is easy enough that it doesn't take too long to get a base off the ground but you soon realize the incredible depth that comes with this game where you need to alter temperatures of different gases and rooms, pipe things around the base as needed, and all of this can be automated. At a certain point it starts to remind me a lot of factorio in fact.

Great game, tons of fun, check out the "shorts" they created for the different Early Access releases. Those alone sold me on the game and that kind of charm carries over into the actual game itself.

Incredible. I've known about this game since it was first announced years and years ago, as I played a bit of NS2. But I'm glad I waited until release to play the full version because this is a game that is best experienced going in blind.

Not much to say without spoiling a lot of cool stuff but the discovery aspect of this game coupled with a decent story that will let you actually "win" (instead of just never ending survival though you can do that if you want) makes this the best survival game I've ever played. It's not even close. Excellent game that puts you in a genuinely unnerving survival scenario and that the sense of dread is always there everytime you dive deep.

If you pick this up, it's 100% best experienced without looking at wikis or reddit or anything like that. The exploration and discovery aspects are much more rewarding and you never know what new lifeform you may discover, I'm over 30 hours in and still discovering new lifeforms, tools to make, deeper caves and resources, etc.

At $25 this game is an incredible deal.

The only minor drawbacks, imo, are:

1. No Coop and devs have said it will likely never happen outside of a full sequel if they do a sequel. Understandable but this game would be excellent with small scale coop (1 - 4) due to the nature of exploring and the equipment you can get.

2. Only one map. So unlike many survival games, this game is not procedurally generated. And that's great for the initial experience but I feel like I'll be less compelled to start again as I'll know where everything is at that point. Again, this is a big reason to avoid "spoilers".

Those are super minor complaints though and the game is incredible. Buy it, you won't regret it.

Interesting idea, kind of like it but ultimately I find it more frustrating than challenging.

EDIT: As another reviewer said, the difficulty curve feels off. A lot of the early game is formulaic and easy, everything is by the numbers...then when you lose it's pretty quick. Feels like the game is building up to an epic confrontation with the undead but so far it often ends very quickly and suddenly out of nowhere which gives each round an anti-climactic feel.

While there is only one episode to base this review off, I'm gonna go ahead and say that this game has lived up to expectations.

If you wanted to play more LiS and also explore more about the Chloe/Rachel relationship, they nailed it. Even with a new voice actress for Chloe, you can barely tell and completely forget about 20 min or so, she does a great job. Almost all recurring characters have new voices with varying amounts of success at portraying the original but Chloe's is the best that can possibly be expected.

There's some great little sequences and if you take your time with the game and really enjoy the scenes, it runs about 4 hours or so for episode 1.
