Enjoying the time with the game for the most part but the game is fairly unstable with forever stuck load times, crashes after loading into a new level, town city, oblivion gate fairly common. NPC companion pathing bugs are pretty annoying too (Companions very much needed for expert difficulty). Negative review to voice concerns with the title at the moment. Otherwise i recommend for the same old Oblivion silliness.

Think of this game as Fallout in space as any other idea, expectation or experience will make you want to fall into a black hole of fun.

]Cons:
  • Loading screens and janky UI take my immersion away
You may as well go to a loading screen and fast travel than actually use your ship. You can "travel" to objects in space, but you need to load onto them anyway to access them. Not to mention the space flight content is deliberately designed to make achieving that borderline impossible.
  • Ship customization: It's fairly in depth, yet, its basically just a loading screen mule to carry your loot with you because most things in space are fairly pointless.
  • 1000 planets are bait. Just a bunch of generic events or POIs. Seems like they ripped the gameplay mechanic from NMS and Space Engineers without properly supporting the reason why you find materials in that way because its to heavily do with tech progressions or needed so you can carry on exploring and finding things. While you do craft mods and spacechips in this game, you can largely ignore it and be fine (See Freestar Coective, NG+ and one of the later main story missions for instance)
  • AI: Yeah its so quirky that Bethesda is allowed to have ♥♥♥♥ AI in their games and get away with it. If you run around most lower level enemies in this game you can recreate some clips straight from launch day Redfall. Other times expect your companions to get stuck in stupid things, enemies to no clip into things if they have boost packs.
  • Campaign is a bunch of fetch quests where you can potentially load and fast travel around five times in the space of around 2 minutes in some of the more obscene parts of it.

    ]Pros:
    • Gunplay seems largely better than previous BGS titles
    • Romance and character dialogue is better than it has been. But if you played BG3 going into this it still seems like this is an indie game in comparison because of how far leaps and bounds BG3 has improved over the choice meta in RPGS.
    • Graphics: While Starfield is still a bit of a pastry looking game with outdated character modelling, there are some moments of really nice beauty with the way they did planets, atmosphere, sunlight, etc. So, i'll give credit where its due.

The game is fairly decent, don't get me wrong. Loading into other people's levels, seeing what unique twists, combos, and ways people design their bases is amazing. The progression is worth the reward, and its fairly easy to get the resources you need to buy the upgrades for your attacker or base upgrades for defender. So, good job there.

However, the deal breaker for me is the way the base design works. Just discovered that artistic map I made for an hour and half filled with traps, strategy, and a theme (some maps i was getting onwards of 6 kills so it was working) ran out of its map resource, making the map no longer accessible. Having to constantly remake maps and spend my currencies on buying new land is a bit of a deal breaker for me. I'm someone who likes map design, spending hours on Divinity's campaign makers, Far Cry 5's maps, Halo Forge (back in the day), so i'm someone who likes my creations to be permanent and repeatedly played on.

If you're like me, and are heavily invested in the base building part, maybe think twice, as you'll be forced to remake your creations as they become irrelevant.

As the developers explain, this is a game that focuses heavily on medium to highlight important parts of psychosis. The game is short but the level design, the fight desing and the deliberate artistic value put in to recreate episodes of mental illness is what really makes this game. Nothing else offers this expereince so I highly recommend the journey through Senua's mental story.

If you're a huge fan of the Dark Ages, Celtic or Viking lore, the game does justice on these angles. Really beautiful game.

As a final thought, the video feature they have on the menus was a great watch when I finished the game. I played through to the end and was left feeling very confused. The explanation in the feature video painted the picture I wasnt quite getting in my playthrough. It really opened my eyes to the bigger picture of their goal.
