The game was shaky on season 1, and everything everyone hated about it got buffed in season 2. This game sucks. Mindless offense gets buffed, everyone loses.

Low level players having an even worse time against people 'spamming.' High level players being punished for blocking, forced into 50/50 mixups constantly like a 2d setplay anime fighter. The game obnoxiously seems to be balanced around having a hail mary power crush to armor through offense. It's not fun to flip a coin and mash an armored move to escape offense. It's not fun to deal with an armored move that's safe on block and also puts them into heat on hit for mash city. Everything about heat sucks. It's a terrible mechanic and instead of tuning it into something more interesting, they lean into the eSports comeback mechanic side of it so that the game is 'more fun for [casual] viewers' or something. I'm really trying to understand where they're coming from. I don't.

They just announced one of their worst DLC characters from Tekken 7 who very few people care about, at a time where everyone's trust and interest is already at an all-time low. I was hanging by a thread, but I'm done. I was really hoping for even a crumb of good choices for balance changes and all they did was homogenize characters to all be stance mixup characters with oppressive nonsense. Everyone plays like a mindless gorilla, and Tekken players are all the humans losing the gorilla matchup.

Virtua Fighter seems like a better use of my time.

No role queue (and the dev team being vocally against it) means that every match is trying to save a unbalanced team comp and forced into tank/healer role, usually solo because 4-5 people instalock dps and won't switch. I like the idea of being able to swap between roles, but I hate being forced to tank every single match. The player base is huge, the queues are instant, it would not be a detriment to the game to have role queue.

I'll change this review if they ever change the system. It's otherwise alright, although parsing information about where you're being shot from is pretty lackluster and frustrating.

Nexon sucks for many reasons and a big one is blatantly lying about drop rates (They recently were sued and paid millions out for a rigged microtransaction that lied and had a 0% chance to give what people were paying at a CHANCE of getting.)

Typical mediocre game packaged with hot babes and predatory microtransactions. A ♥♥♥♥♥♥ artificial grind designed into frustrating you into swiping your credit card. It's only like $70 to skip the grind for one character! Wow! $120 packages for the 'ultimate' version of the character + skins. Or would you rather run the same repetitive & unengaging mission over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over for hours on end? Possibly gaining literally nothing toward your goal?

This game doesn't respect your time. I went in with little to no expectations and I was still pissed off by the end of my time with it. I watched enough people streaming what the game was like with further progression than me, and that was no saving grace.

Here to counter the entitled gamers freaking out about a $20 DLC after they got 100+ hours of enjoyment out of the $20 base game

+ Great pixel art style and presentation; nice music, story and characters seem interesting enough
+ Incredible potential for depth, which unfortunately for me goes overboard and turns into a negative...
- Way too convoluted with too many mechanics for me:

Instead of being able to sculpt your unit with growth, skills, or classes, every unit has an element.

Fire does crit damage to earth/ice but takes crit damage from water. Which is not to be confused with ice element which does crit damage to earth/water. There's wind/electric/arcane as well. Each element has an assist skill, a spell cast on an adjacent unit. These are proving annoying as I don't want my squishy healer-assist right next to my melee unit.

Each unit has a wait skill, which is nice as it's a self-buff usually, rather than wasting your turn with 'wait.' It can be annoying though, to decide between assisting a unit or buffing yourself. They're nice to have because you're constantly barely inching forward to try to specifically aggro the first mob. If you overextend by one square your first unit gets hit by 4 mobs and it snowballs pretty poorly. If you want to heal them you are putting your squishy in attack range of those 4 mobs. Restarting a level--a seemingly frequent occurence--starts to feel especially wasteful on time, even on 2x speed. You have to watch every unit move, cast a buff, wait a full second or two of neutral animation before and after each unit. Multiple times, before you get to engage in any combat. Maybe I've lost some patience for tactical RPGs, I don't know. I desperately wanted a 3x or 4x speed after just a few hours.

I have my 3 main units, then I have summons which are extra units but I can only bring so many, based on summon capacity and their cost. I have to choose between several weak ones (who can wind up useless or getting one-shot) or one strong one. Sometimes the higher cost ones don't actually feel better. I may be misunderstanding the strategy but I often regret the summons that I choose.

Element of your units/summons become extra important because if enemies have mana barrier, it's a shield where if you use the wrong element the damage is halved. This sounds cool to me on paper, but ultimately winds up in more awkward shuffling of units in strange ways, due to the nature of needing units adjacent to each other to cast assist skills. All this annoying movement is compounded by the fact when a defeated enemy drops an item, you need to move a unit onto that space to pick it up. Yet again, where I want to place my units feels obnoxiously convoluted. I don't want to put units in bad spots to pick up an item and eat unnecessary hits, yet I also don't want to leave one unit alive at the end to spend a bunch of turns picking up scattered items.

While you're doing the aforementioned inching-forward-fearfully, the units are likely casting mana barrier on one another--repeatedly, even when they already have it--which makes it so you REALLY need to crit (elemental weakness) otherwise you do half damage. Which puts so much emphasis on element type that you can be really restricted on what unit can attack which enemy. Add on curses, reaction skills, insta-kill places like bridges or cliffs, and it just feels over the top on the complexity. Someone described it as a puzzle game more than a tactical RPG, there seems to be a pretty particular way to do things, especially boss battles. The ways in which this game is difficult feel like they're wasting my time, rather than the winning strategy feeling gratifying, for me at least.

If you really like difficulty and tons of mechanics and complexity, this could be great for you. This game does have a lot of cool stuff in it.

I loved FFT, I loved Disgaea, I loved Banner Saga, I loved Fell Seal... I don't even *like* this game. I really wanted to. I don't enjoy fire emblem, so maybe I just don't like overly difficult tactical RPGs, I'm not sure. This is my 3rd of 4th attempt to sit down and give it a shot, and each time I've left disappointed and frustrated.

Extremely disappointing and not worth $20. It was cute and funny for 10 minutes. All the levels feel the same, combat is so bad and so so so repetitive. Htiboxes are jank, attack patterns are uninteresting, there's no reason to crouch or jump there's no nuance to the combat. Also not much feedback on how much damage you're actually doing--I hit a boss at least 50 times and had no idea if he was actually close to dying or not.

I wish I played this sooner after buying so I could refund it. Haven't been this ripped off since Torchlight 3. This game should cost $5 max. It literally feels like a tech demo of a very bare bones engine.
