Cute little puzzle game with an intriguing story told with its art

Battle for Bikini Bottom was one of my favorite games as a kid, playing it countless times. Rehydrated is a faithful remake of BFBB; the gameplay and story telling just like it was in the original. Pacing can be odd at times, and the platforming is relatively easy. This game is most definitely fan service, and the redone graphics is straight up eye candy.

Issues and Criticism:
If you want a list about the Pro's of this game, just look take a look other reviews. Most of the good qualities of this game are interchangeable with the original. I, however, will mostly talk about the issues and problems I've noticed with the remake, Rehydrated.

Bugs -
There are bugs and issues throughout game. It's not a huge issue, and typically doesn't affect the gameplay, but nonetheless it is there and can sometimes be distracting. If you prefer to use inverted camera controls, prepare to constantly go into the settings switching it back every time you switch characters at a bus stop. This issue alone is my biggest complaint. Hopefully an upcoming patch can fix all these issues.

Shiny Objects -
The combo system seems a little wack and has less character. No longer will you be shown crazy silly long combos. I also believe they changed the combo calculations. The amount of shiny objects needed for Mr. Krab's Spatulas are a little ridiculous, but its do-able with an hour or so of grinding the Goo Lagoon castle spot.

Design -
This game is clearly meant to be a faithful to its original design (as said by the developers), but I would have liked to see different twists on some gameplay. Maybe updating the game for more coherent level and game design that might have been lacking in the original.

However the invisible walls in the game do ruin some of the game's original charm. I used to spend a lot of time just exploring the zones, jumping and climbing for the fun of it. There were some areas I didn't even realize I was playing them completely incorrectly until this game told me I wasn't able to do it differently.

Conclusion:
Although I've been highly critical, I had a great time playing and even went out of my way to 100% this game. The charm from the original is still there, and I had a blast seeing these old levels I used to play in a new and different light.

Rehydrated is a solid remake or "remaster". If you played the original, like platforming, or you're a fan of SpongeBob in general, then you should definitely pick this up. $30 for a cute collect-a-thon that takes about 10 hours to complete. The updated graphics look fantastic, and it was worth the purchase just so I could see this masterpiece in HD.
