You control two characters with a game controller. A LOT of the game is simply figuring out how to do various stuff - what buttons to press. Want to crank that wheel? Try interacting with it, then spin that character's joy-stick. Furthermore, you cannot reconfigure the buttons on your controller, so it felt pretty awkward holding it in certain ways so I could keep the interact buttons pressed as necessary while playing easily with the joysticks. Oddly, when repeating the game, it feels pretty good to get the brothers working simultaneously at tasks that you had to do seperately for each brother before the controls got comfortable.

Despite this, I enjoyed the game and thought the story was very good. It's a bit like tomb raider, except there are many more possibilities when there are two characters available to solve a puzzle, and the story is much, much better. Surprised me. Beautiful graphics. Unfortunate lack of control on view rotation (doesn't always work) and vertical angle (nothing to control that) but the frequent benches are pretty good for sitting your characters down and taking in those wonderful vistas.

Moving story...and then I spent TOO long getting the achievements I missed the first time around. Achievements. They can take the shine off of a game. If you do want them, they're particularly easy in this game, but read how to do them beforehand, especially the lovebirds achievement. The part I missed was: you have to find the lone love bird with the telescope, pause, zoom in, then wait a few seconds. Ugh. I didn't zoom in, and ended up repeating too much of the game a THIRD time, thinking I'd done something wrong.

Final thought: don't panic if you don't hear English dialogue. It's a made-up language that you're not supposed to understand. The tone of voice is well done and conveys the message along with the well-chosen music.

Strange. Not really a game. Kind of like going to see a B rated movie that a friend said was really deep and symbolic and examining everything closely, expecting to have to use your knowledge to solve a puzzle...but there's nothing deep or symbolic, no puzzles, just a slowly unfolding story that's kind of nice.

Recommended only because it's the first time I've come across anything similar. Someone else will probably take this format and produce something much better, but I'm not sure I'd want to experience it. Once was good, but once is enough.

Do NOT pay full price. Even at 66% off or $6.66, the game seems a little expensive for 2-3 hours of play.

The original. If you can get a good group together, has a slightly better flavour than L4D2. Not as endlessly repeatable, but it's fun to play a game where the tanks keep bashing you to death and you're routinely faced with the decision: save that guy by attracting the tank's attention from zero range (i.e. by pushing the tank), or just keep shooting while your teammate dies....

I recommend that you buy this game. Of course, since all my friends already own the darned thing, that'd mean that you'd have to buy a second copy. Hmmm. Maybe not, eh?

Edit: why am I still playing this game after five and a half years? Because it's a fun way to interact with the other people that I've met and friended while playing. The community who play L4D2 co-op are simply fine folks.
