I am changing my review to negative. Not only is this a DLC farm game, but the recent update shows where Paradox's priority lies: releasing more DLCs *at the cost of current players*. The recent 4.0 update was pushed in a critically unstable state, even as cited by the devs in their Dev Diary. The purpose of this is to keep money flowing from the DLC calendar they have going. The recent update was advertised to be a stability and performance focused update, but brought the opposite on both fronts. Desync is so bad that you can't play for more than a couple of minutes on a new save without a desync (requiring a retransmission of the current save from host to every player taking abt 1-3 minutes). Comparatively, in 3.14 you really only experienced frequent desync with a lot of players in late stage gameplay where every empire has dozens of full fleets and it was more understandable. Paradox needs not just a rework of the latest update, but a rework of their priorities with this game before they completely kill the community and therefore their revenue stream

Game lifecycle is non-existant, menu feels like the campaign is a side note with the main focus being getting you to buy skins and play more WZ

Feels very rushed. Most cities only allow 3 streets max when so much more could be expanded on. It feels like they shrunk Texas down to the size of the other states, then grew it back to scale last second. I hope they update it with more details so that the magic of Texas is not lost.

Recent update removes everything good about VRC and turns the fully custom experience into the same copy paste as every other social hub app. Most good things about custom avatars and worlds came from modded clients and custom SDKs. There was effort to remove them previously with ban waves, but any player can tell you that these clients are essential to the gameplay experience.

This game appeals to those who can grind out for hours. This game has a community cardinal quest system, meaning what the community does affects your game. Once you get a grasp of the game and find a niche for yourself, it is quite enjoyable. The first few hours however are rough as you start out with a starter ship and about a million things to do. My advice? Keep it simple to start. Do messenger quests until you can afford stuff. Then buy a loadout for a certain type of quests (Bounty hunting, delivery, trading, passenger transport, piracy, etc) If you don't like the style you chose, sell it and try a different one.
