This is a very tepid recommendation. I don't recommend Scanner Sombre at full price; get it on sale. I will also acknowledge that this game is probably visually incredible in VR.

Scanner Sombre is a good demo for a particular type of visual rendering, which you get a good sense of based on the screenshots. And that's pretty much all it is.

It tries to tell a story, but it's missing something. I think Scanner Sombre would have been far better than it is, if it had some good VO work. It tries to deliver exposition and tone through text and music respectively, and it just isn't enough. Games like Thomas Was Alone, The Stanley Parable, or even Ben Foddy's Getting Over It give you a sense of how much more impactful the story could have been if a compelling narrator had delivered it.

I think good VO would have taken this game from a 6/10 to an 8/10. It's still not bad, it's just not very good. There are worse ways to spend an hour and a half, so I still recommend it - but, again, not at full price.

Part Bridge Constructor, part Portal puzzler, this hybrid is unfortunately less than the sum of its parts.

The actual contruction feels outdated due to the more robust systems of Polybridge, and many levels require tedious fiddling of moving parts little bit by little bit at a time because the trajectory of objects isn't being cooperative.

YMMV, but I don't recommend this one.

This game makes walking simulators seem stimulating by comparison.

Walking simulators are generally linear experiences, with each chapter bringing new and novel content. You are generally seeing and hearing things you haven't before.

In this game, I feel at least 60% of my time was spent walking through areas I had already seen. The sum total of spoken audio in this game is probably around ten minutes. There are maybe half a dozen good puzzles, and two utterly inane ones.

One of these I wrote off outright, and consulted a guide because I felt it wouldn't be worth the time to figure it out for myself. I'm glad I did, because the two logic regimes it used were inconsistent and one of them was only used once (and even then, could have been "cheated" with some extra walking).

The other, which was maybe the fourth task presented to me in the game, required such specific leaps of logic with such specific observations (including what HAD to be the only 360-viewable object I didn't see all sides of, and I could swear turning it over was somehow more finicky than the others) that I literally completed EVERY OTHER PUZZLE IN THE GAME before managing it. That is, AFTER three failed attempts, using hints from a guide that was trying not to spell out the solution for me.

The story is decent and the environment is well thought-out, but I still felt the boredom and frustration of going back and forth, and back, and forth, and back, and forth across the game environments to see the ending wasn't worth the effort. And mind you, I got the GOOD ending on my first try, though that was due to my sheer disdain for the character who was supposed to tell you what to do.

Looks slick, but is absolutely paper-thin, and isn't mechanically satisfying enough to offset how arbitrary the difficulty feels.

More than once, I would run out of time before reaching a checkpoint while having genuinely no idea what I did wrong or how to improve.

Obstacles (slower riders) can appear out of seemingly nowhere in sharp turns, especially with the tree-lined levels, and even at max resolution it's difficult to tell where they are in relation to the centerline of the road.

"Modern arcade" games generally improve upon the games they are inspired by. This one feels like a step backwards. Not recommended.

More than a walking simulator. To me, this was a detective game - you're poking through the scene of an event's aftermath, trying to figure out what happened and who was involved.

This is as much a "hard sci-fi" game as you will ever find, and it's very well written and acted. Highly recommended.

I wanted to like this game. Unfortunately, the first hour of playtime was so profoundly un-fun that I requested a refund.

The first hour consisted of chasing resource blips on my compass, tolerating the quasi-intellectual monologuing of an uninteresting task-setter, noting the clunkiness of when expository prompts would trigger, and finally moving out of bounds - accidentally! - because I mistakenly followed a spoken compass direction instead of the quest marker. And dying when I tried to get back, losing a third of my progress.

This was an hour of my limited free time. I wish I had enjoyed that hour more. Not recommended.

A quick, fun little flightsuit game.

My nomination for Steam's "The World is Grim Enough, Let's All Get Along" award.

Nickervision's best game to date.

The one-button control effects both height and speed, and deaths very rarely feel unfair.

The high score of 75 is perfectly attainable, and the fact that the rarest achievement still has a global statistic of 11.4% shows that many people play this game to completion. (Most games' rarest achievements are at 0.5%-1.5%.)

Bit Blaster XL is a middling game. Diamo XL is a quite good game. This is a great game. Recommended.

Honest review: More fun than Bit Blaster XL, less fun than Orbt XL.

A challenging, fast-paced game of drawing diamonds that turns into a game of mostly avoiding stuff.

The biggest drawback is that once you press a direction, you can't reverse - I'm sure this is intentional rather than an oversight, however it does mean you'll sometimes see your loss coming and be powerless to stop it.

The top and bottom corners can sometimes have enemies approaching from above or below that have little warning, and late-game enemies begin to involve area denial, which sometimes comes close to feeling like you have nowhere to escape to.

Despite all that, I had fun managing to get a good high score, and completed the achievements in just under two hours. Recommended.

Very solid top-down Zelda-esque adventure with an innovative spell crafting mechanic.

15 hours to 100% with few hiccups. Recommended.
