the lack of "spooky entities" is this games biggest strength

if you're like me and know nothing about this game and your expectations are that it's a ~5 hour long walking simulator, dont read any more reviews and buy it right now

do you want an exciting campaign that frequently takes advantage of a destruction engine much more detailed and advanced than most games released around its time? get red faction: guerrilla. how teardown's developers took the immensely fun concept of "you're an owner of a demolition company, dropped into a fully destructible world" and made a campaign that is essentially just the same few fetch quests over and over to the point of nauseam should be STUDIED. sure, there is the odd mission which remembers the main gimmick and selling point of this game, but they're so few and far between that they're barely even memorable. the sandbox mode and steam workshop integration, along with all the incredible creations made by the community, are the only parts of this game worth even mentioning, and the sole reason why i can't give it anything other than a positive review.

i'm not particularly into horror games in general but whatever flavour of horror this is, i'm into it

this game would have been considerably better if it had stayed with the premise of being left on a dark and eerie island where little things keep happening that make you think you're not really alone, instead of simply revealing the big scary creature on day two (and then spiralling off into a fairly generic spooky hellish dungeon setting). any dread and scare factor wears off really quickly after that happens
