it's a cute little 10 hour or so experience, most likely less if you realize beforehand that you can't get every item, powerup, and find all the hidden stuff until a game completion.

learn from my mistake if you're going for actual 100% game completion: be prepared to use the umbrella early on and read about the missable achievements if you don't want a second playthrough.

II is my least favorite Final Fantasy because the series hadn't really "found" what defines it until the next game. That said, the Pixel remaster makes this actually not like pulling teeth from a Malboro to play. Maybe the most lovingly recreated with the exception of some sections of VI, the new Pandemonium+soundtrack is a top tier end game dungeon that is shockingly mean for it's time and recreated in full colorful symphonic glory.

A culmination of all that came before it, the final 2D chapter of Final Fantasy somehow twists the expectations created by the masterpieces of IV and V into an entirely new abomination. So influential that the conversation ~ended~ on whether this medium of ours could be called art. There might not be a better compliment for a video game.

If you are a purist, I'd recommend "Classic" font + Window color mod + Opera Italian Voice or whatever you prefer mod. My main criticism of this remake is/are the changes that were done for the (English) opera - and there's whole articles and videos dedicated to this - but basically the English version goes for "Celes is an untrained vocalist" and brings in a competent but not great singer to emphasize this whereas the Italian/French versions used professional currently-in-work opera singers (being a superior version in my eyes).

For those wondering it's placement in the SNES/JRPG pantheon, it's sister game is Chrono Trigger, another universally acclaimed classic. Whereas Chrono Trigger dwells much more in the sunlight than the somber moments, Final Fantasy VI is a collection of somber moment and broken characters punctuated by hope. The mosaic is both immediately appealing to JRPG fans and builds to a cohesive whole that is still unlike and parallel to almost every other game (in both mood, feeling, and composition) of it's time and after it's time.

maybe you should fix your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ base game and optimize the game to run above 60 fps before giving the DLC away to all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ youtubers and twatter souls losers to spoil it for everyone

if i could refund a dlc for everybody spoiling it the first day i would, whats the point, might as well wait for a sale and turn on youtube or twitch.tv to see some tryhard going to first day spoil every main boss

i thought i was done with this fanbase before but we're 100% there now

Consider watching a video of the cinematics on YouTube and realize that 75% of the 'gameplay' is going to be that level of dialogue

EDIT: One of the most baffling cases of "Overwhelmingly Positive" I have seen, a game you will not remember and may actively shake from your playlist.
