A game that should be great, and in some way is, but the devs left unfinished or half finished stuff everywhere, some going back a couple of years. In some ways, it's like beta more than a finished game. The content is mostly there, but unrefined and stuff missing or incomplete everywhere. For example, there are three types of fishing baits, and the second one, big bait, can't actually be used.Treasure chests give you fishing poles most of the time, for some reason.Mills can only be used with one of the 3 crops it's supposed to be used for, with the other 2 never having been added to game, yet one of the products from that, sugar, is still used with no way to grow it and in not being easy to get or farm for something being needed constantly in recipes. Other things like most mushrooms exist with no purpose. There's other systems there seemingly because other games have them but for no real purpose. You can craft tons of food and drinks, but the only benefit to doing so is to sell them. Town events/holidays exist, but there's nothing to do in them but talk to people and watch a cutscene. Completely boring. I could go on. Lots of things added or partially added and never completed or given any reason to be there..It's a shame because it's a unique addition to the rural life sim genre that was otherwise stand out if it were actually properly completed. I got it as part of a bundle, and as such don't regret it, but don't pay full price.

One of those delightful games that takes several different genres, puts them in a blender, and somehow comes up with something that is better than the sum of its varied parts.

The Riftbreaker is a game where you player the titular Riftbreaker, an advanced scout sent to a faraway planet via a one-way wormhole to setup a permanent two way gateway so that the planet be colonized and its resources exploited.

Naturally, something like that requires significant infrastructure to build and maintain and it is the riftbreaker's job to set all of that up with her advanced mecha suit with both construction and combat capabilities. Unfortunately, the wildlife is disturbed by all that construction and turns hostile.

Here's where the blend of genres comes in. Base construction is similar to an rts with a very light bit of factory building built in for a very few resources and buildings. Defending the bases is more of a tower defense game. Exploring the map to set up bases and find resources is more like a ARPG with crafting instead of leveling up. Lastly, the game has a giant tech tree that would be perfectly at home in a 4X game.

Another unique feature is that your bases are permanent and keep going when you are on other maps. Solid resources are universal and can be used at any base. As a result, you find yourself revisiting old maps to setup new resources mines and other buildings to feed your main and newer bases.

My only complaint is that I was expecting an epic final batter requiring the most advanced defensive buildings, but the final battle was extremely light and easy and I needed only a relatively light defense. It's a minor nitpick. At least they didn't make the final batter super difficult and frustrating like a lot of other games do. There's a reason why I stop playing most games at the final battle.

All in all this game is a real delight. You can even try it for yourself. They have a demo, and it includes a short prequel campaign that gives you a small taste of things to come.

It's a shame that this game isn't better known.

Mostly factor builder, with all the elaborate setups that implies, it's also part tower defense, as most levels have waves of enemies trying to wreck your factories. You'll need those factories to produce the resources required both to build defenses, and to use as ammo. The more difficult the stuff you make, the more powerful defenses you can bring to the table.

Some levels also turn it into a rts as well, with you building and sending your own waves of robots to destroy the enemy base.

All in all very fun and hard to stop playing.

A fun twist on RPGs with an interesting story to boot. The real time tactical combat system is a unique take, the characters are fun, and the levels are well designed and immersive. One of the of more pleasant surprises I've had recently.

Don't listen to the naysayers. They don't like this game because it's not as great as the first, but the first was so good that there was simply no way to equal it.

Instead you get another survival game which plays with the gameplay of the first, but doesn't even try to surpass it. And on it's own, it's still great. It's got that same great gameplay, lots of new and strange creatures and places to explore, feels like a different area on the same planet and continues some themes from the original.

If you want something as good or better than the first, don't bother, If you want another great Subnautica game and don't expect it to recreate the magic of the first, you are in for a good time.

First part of the game was fun. Classic RPG actions. Wondering around fighting monsters and solving quests. I liked it. Then I got to the mage tower and that game I was playing was gone. Now it's just wondering around solving arbitrary and random puzzles. Not even the fun well designed puzzles either. Just randomly thrown out there just to have puzzles it seemed. I was going to push through hoping it got back to the earlier style after this, but according to the game guide I looked at, this is it. This boring thrown together puzzles with a battle thrown in once in a while to break up the boredom is the entire game.

I feel cheated. I've played too long to get a refund and then spent 12 hours downloading this monstrosity. There are other, better classic style RPGs. Some of them even have puzzles that are fun. Play those instead.

I was quite enjoying this game, then I started it up and found all my progress had been completely erased. It seems the game doesn't use a local save and doesn't allow for backup saves. Even worse, I found that this problem has been happening for like 6 years. There's no point in playing this game if something like this can happen. Don't risk it. Just avoid.

A hidden gem! An old fashioned bullet hell SMUP with some Rogue-style randomization and lots and lot of possible weapons and upgrades. And unlike the similar games of my childhood, you won't be spending over an hour on a single run.

One of the best, if not the best, survival games ever. Subnautica is a single player survival game in which you are a survivor of a space ship crash and must now figure out how to surivive and ultimately escape a totally alien ocean planet. Subnautica is far more than that. It is at times beautiful, and times terrifying, and always, always filled with a sense of wonder. The story is great, but is woven into your exploring. It progresses organically and at your pace as you explore, craft every better things, marvel at wonders no humans has seen before and flee from terrors no one was ever meant to see. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Note that a lot of people are voting this down right now out of protest of the sound designer being fired over some allegedly racist statements. The designer himself has asked people not to do that. Keep this in mind as you read any negative comments and decide for yourself whether or not this matters to you.

Another take on the RPG match 3 mashup type game. Unlike Puzzle Quest, it takes more of a party based approach with each party memeber contributing one passive ability and being able to hold 2 items which give you your active abilities. It isn't as in depth as Puzzle Quest, but is much more so than most other mashup games I've seen, plus has a fun sense of humor and simple, but enjoyable cartoon style graphics. Recommended if you like the Match 3 mashup type of game.
