i wrote a review on this long ago and i can say the autism and cancer in this game makes me want to bang my head into my keyboard until i gain a couple extra chromosomes. definitely a good time if ur returded or dont value ur life

edited to say that this game is still ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

EDIT: Changed it to not recommended, cheater problem is too prevalent. In all seriousness, after 20k elo it's a cesspool and not worth playing. FaceIt is the only workaround and that isn't fun either.

Simply nightmarish and surreal atomosphere. The last place I'd want to be stuck in is a mental asylum, on the top of a mountain, with little to no cell phone service. The enemies in this game are needless to say, bone-chilling, with evil backstory to reinforce their malevolent history and behavior. Personally, I believe the constant feeling of danger from some sort of sneak attack, or simply just shaking in my seat hoping that the enemy doesn't check my hiding spot is what truly gives this game the thriller that it so obviously portrays.

The atmosphere is extremely terrifying; it's as if danger is around every corner. You can't go anywhere without some kind of surprise, but they're all different so it's unique, you get scared everytime. The little things are very impressive too, like the night vision. It's not a very common idea, but the night vision is actually very effective at adding a creepy atmosphere, which the game doesn't really need; it's overkill. The fact that you can't just hide in the dark is also very giving to the atmosphere. There's 3 basic actions you can perform whenever a monster spawns: you hide, you run, or you die. I also enjoyed the even smaller things, like whenever you lean to peek through a doorway, your hand will show as in keeping structure and balance to your character; it adds realistic human body reactions, if you peered through a hallway at that much of an angle, more than likely you'll topple over.

The mechanics and controls of the game are flawless, to say the least. The fact that you can turn around to view your pursuer while you sprint for your life is surprisingly well done. My only real concern is the vaulting in the game. Let's say for example, you're being pursued by the ruthless Chris Walker, and a small desktop happens to block your hallway. Instead of your character vaulting it, he will jump right into the desk, hindering your movement, allowing your pursuer to get closer, putting you at risk. It all works out, nonetheless, because this adds psychological terror; personally, I think of it as: you know you messed up, and you're at a much larger risk of getting caught."

All in all, I'd give it a strong 8.5/10, due to it getting kind of repetitive torwards the last little bit of the game. If you don't already own it, I'd recommend putting down a quick $20 to enjoy a one of a kind horror survival.
