Early Access Review
EDIT: as the game has received zero attention from the devs for over 3 months now, i cannot in good conscience recommend it any longer. the servers are barely functional, with games experiencing serious lags, although technically still playable. it's a sad story of an awesome game with great concept being unceremoniously abandoned by its devs. try it out if you want, but don't expect quick matches since the playerbase has been dwindling for months.

for an open beta moba, this game is polished and boasts extremely fun gameplay dynamics. nonetheless, it is not a LoL/Dota clone, but more of a hack-slash / 3rd person shooter / ARPG hybrid. the hero designs are cool, with skills and graphics that gel really well together. the action is fast, with fantastic rhythm.

gameplay is in teams of 4; and you can arrange with friends in lobby. in PvE there are mission objectives to kill zombies, rescue civilians, defend a supply point, or grab supplies and run. in PvP it's 3 teams free-for-all, where the key to winning is gathering sufficient supplies rather than simple K/D/A or destroying a base. it's a bit of capture-the-flag, defend supply points, be first to kill a super zombie, and stealing enemy supplies (after trucks are filled). suffice to say, the dynamics are very fresh and challenging.

once you start learning your first character, you would be thrilled and thinking, "this sh*t can really go places!" that, incidentally, is what got most of us hooked. of course, not everything is perfect yet, but given time and a steadily-growing playerbase, i am confident that DI:E will make it as one of the better (if not the best) f2p games on steam.

try it out -- i guarantee you will love it.

FPS meets TD!

the game is fairly easy to pick up, for fans of Tower Defense. towers behave fairly well, with sufficient variety and strategic placement / upgrading involved. just try not to sell other people's towers without saying anything!

the First-Person gameplay is very rewarding, with challenging creeps who would chase / shoot you, requiring some good acrobatics to stay alive and be useful. the weakspot system works well with the weapons, which take some skill to feel useful.

the best for last: Co-op pve! getting a good team to play with, communicating, sharing resources, modifying each other's mazes... it's just the most fun you can get in any TD. kinda reminds me of Warcraft 3 custom TD maps; but those usually can't support co-op and most definitely exclude the FPS.

tried it, bought it. totally worth the $4.

9/10

EDIT: nominated this game for The “Game Within A Game” Award - both because it has the hardest "game in a game" achievement, and the amalgamation of two genres makes this game literally an FPS within a TD.
