To be honest... I don't know what to say about Spiral Knights.

It's one of the grindiest games I know, but at the same time, the visuals and soundtrack just make the experience so authentic and fun that, well, I can't say no to it. I think the worst part isn't really the game itself, but how it's being run, which is that there's essentially no one running it, as Gray Havens hasn't updated the game with anything meaningful in a long time.

I will recommend it for one reason: I still have hope that this game somehow gains the spark of life (Haha, a meta joke, so funny /s) that it deserves, as, well, it looks like a Nintendo 64 game, but man, the artstyle and soundtrack is just lovely.

All I wish is that it has developers. Passionate ones at that.

Valve Software for a long time has been completely ignorant about one of Counter-Strike 2's features - Gambling.

As confirmed in a video by the youtuber HOUNGOUNGAGNE, Valve's lootbox system borders the use of slot machines, there's dozens of websites about the game to pull your wins to real cash, which are completely unregulated with sometimes the lack of KYC knowledge, and some of these have been advertised in Majors, IEMs and other official to semi-official tournaments.

Here's a little tidbit: In Germany, going into gambling halls and things like that are prohibited for people under the age of 18. Using a slot machine is forbidden for anyone below the age of 15. Online Gambling websites, in order to operate in the country, need a license for every of their actions, such as slot machines, lottos, bets, poker, et cetera.

Steam is a platform for people above the age of 13, Counter-Strike 2's USK rating is 16. Because barely anyone really acts on the USK ratings, and because parents usually allow their kids to play games like that below the rating, there are many young people, not just in Germany, but all around the world who are gambling despite being underage, and without proper safety regulations from the websites and providers. Valve has literally integrated a slot machine for 13 year olds to use, with no legal consequences so far.
Think about it. Little Timmy got his 50€ gift card for his birthday, proceeds to spend all of it on cases, and gets barely anything. If he gets a knife, he'll sell it, open more, and have a loss. This is normal, because in gambling, you're not supposed to win. The house wins. So don't do it.

Even though Counter-Strike 2 as a game so far is an obvious improvement to CS:GO, with a lot of content returning or coming soon, the game's issue of gambling will eventually reach a climax where Valve might get sued or generally gets into legal trouble.
I love a lot of the game's mechanics, I really do! Shooting through smokes is fun and the technology is revolutionary, it's a huge step up, and a new engine allows for a lot of new and better things, but why open up an industry in this game that is almost completely based around just pure luck and ruined lives? I don't know, ask the guy in Barbados profiting off of that.

I love the game, but I hate Valve's guts.

I'm re-putting a new review of this game, because i want to say my 100% honest opinion on it.

So, basically. Hearts of Iron IV, one of Paradox's most played WW2-themed games, really packs a punch in terms of graphics and concept. Focus trees, the strategy layout from HOI3 and HOI2, it just nails it, and it's definitely a good game because of it, and the mods, and so many other things.

But, here is the bad side of things: This game is too poorly optimized, and has no real tutorial. You are essentially thrown into the game, without any preperations, and that's it really, and, well, past 1941, the game becomes really, really slow and without mods, you're basically forced to spend multiple hours to finish that campaign.

I wish this game had less of a "let's play this for like 2 hours" feel, and should be at least better optimized and also faster.

Outside of that, the game still is very unique and it's definitely worth playing if you have a LOT of free time.

8/10.

No Game is ever the same!

That tagline did stick with me back in 2015, when this game was at it's peak.
In all honesty, I've recieved three free days of the Beta build, and I somehow got the stuff everyone else who actually bought the game would, even the Calvary Nigel skin, which is kind of funny to me.

Now, let's actually get to what this game is about.

This is an unoffical sequel to Ace of Spades, first of all. Jagex killed that game, and of course it started to make sense to actually make something based off of the concept, which I think this game actually did well. I loved how there were lots of different types of blocks which all do different things, and the Hero blocks are pretty much some of the coolest in the game.

I personally preferred the Beta build over everything, because the roster was smaller and thus a bit more balanced, although I could give a slight point of redemption for the characters that did enter the roster. Roly Poly Fat Fat is probably one of my favourites, and also Vander Graaf, whose voice lines I still remember. Nigel is probably my top 1 though, he's just a jolly ol' brit.

A lot of this game was about breaking in and getting out, or fighting on the frontlines, and I think the game can be really fun during these times, and well, I did. I had fun. Until that was optimized out of the game by the playerbase.

I don't know when this started, but over time, a meta developed, and as some of you may know, I despise metagaming, I think it's the most annoying thing in every game ever, unless that has been clearly intended by the developers.

In Block N Load, it eventually became two things, bomb spam and very specific character selections that are all around very difficult to counter. Sweet Science is pretty much the heavyweight champion of all of these metas, and I think he's actually, by himself, not a bad character, but damn is he annoying. He's in your face all the time, it's like Roadie Z in Garden Warfare 2, and the thing is, you can barely escape him either without having a very elaborate escape route planned, which, that's probably a skill issue from my side. Sorry for that.

My final verdict is that honestly, I like the game, but in my personal opinion, with it being dead, the playerbase that remained was quite sweaty, and it made the game very unfun to play, plus, the last time I did, I got yelled at by my teammate for not playing optimally. I think that's a good enough reason to dislike this game.

Block N Load is good... but it ain't going to win a Game of the Year award, and I think it needed a lot more work and also a lot better developers, because Jagex decided to milk this like the fattest cow in the stall.

7/10.
