Having never played a Resident Evil game before, I was gifted this one because it's supposedly the best one.

This game is absolute garbage, and anyone who says otherwise is an apologist or an elitist.

1. The control scheme sucks. It's a game from 2005 that has a control scheme worse than even games from the 90s. You know what else came out in 2005 that had a great control scheme? GUN.
2. How do you not have strafing or moving while aiming/shooting? Doom had that in 1993. "It's an old game" is not a valid argument when the problems are bad design choices we solved a decade before it came out.
3. You can't turn off the music so if you having hearing difficulties you can't understand dialogue.
4. The game throws dozens of tanky enemies at you from the very beginning and almost no ammo the entire way through.
5. It'll give you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of money, but the money is worthless if you can't buy ammo.
6. The knife is absolutely worthless because not only does it do piss all for damage, but you have to stand perfectly still to use it which means every redneck wahoo with a crossbow or RPG will immediately snap shot you.

The TL;DR
  • A good game, hampered by the requirement of the 2K launcher stapled on after the fact.
  • Maximum Justified Price: $5
The Good
  • One of the best turn-based tactics games currently available.
  • Mod support is extremely useful and adds many fun tweaks and features to your game.
  • Game supports many customizations for your characters to make your dreams of Space Barbie come true.
The Bad
  • As of this writing, the GOG and Epic versions don't have support for the main mod loaders. Buy elsewhere at your own risk.
The Ugly
  • Requires the trainwreck that is the 2K launcher middleware DRM.
  • The online functionality was removed by 2K with the launch of the 2K middleware.

The TL;DR
  • Decent game, but the "definitive edition" label is false advertising.
  • Maximum Justified Price: $5

The Good
  • Decent game for the age of it, and the story is fairly good.
  • The cars are beautiful and are fun to drive.

The Bad
  • Fairly expensive for a 10 year old game with some boot polish dumped on it

The Ugly
  • Definitive Edition has next to no improvements or changes from Mafia 2 of significant notice (no ultrawide support, no bug fixes, minimal gameplay updates/upgrades compared to Mafia 1 remake/Mafia 3 update)
  • Requires 2K launcher middleware DRM
  • Steam launches 2K launcher, which is required to actually launch the game

It's like Diablo with guns, and not published by the cesspool that is Activision Blizzard.

The TL;DR
  • A good remake of the original, but suffers from a large amount of bad design choices and bugs.
  • Maximum Justified Price: $10
The Good
  • Visually beautiful
  • Modernizes the classic without being radically different
  • Full support for ultrawide resolutions (I play at 3840x1080y/32:9)
  • Supports full-scale HUD boundaries for ultrawide resolutions (i.e. being able to set the HUD to the center as if it was a 4:3 instead of locked to the edges of my 32:9)
The Bad
  • Cutscenes often bug out or lock up the game in mission replay (sometimes cars and objects float away into the sky with no gravity during same as well)
  • Weapons are ineffective or inaccurate to the point of absurdity (i.e. enemies shrug off multiple headshots from shotguns and rifles even on the lowest difficulty)
  • Multiple bugs such as floating objects or invisible collisions
  • Bushes and shrubbery stop a vehicle dead in its tracks like a brick wall
  • Multiple unskippable splash screens on launch
  • Requires third-party 2K launcher DRM to play game
  • The fuel consumption mechanic is not mentioned anywhere in the game, and relies on the player to either know about it or google it themselves
  • Forcing the player to walk slowly around the bar is tedious time padding, as going to the wardrobe and weapon lockup takes a good few minutes
  • Player game overs in free ride/roam reset to the bar, regardless of where you were, making transit tedious if it was accidental
  • Sunlight in doorways is blindly bright until you step fully outside, which is not always feasible during gunfights
The Ugly
  • Easily the worst vehicle handling and mechanics I've ever seen in my entire life, making driving wholly unpleasant
  • Vehicles instantly rev to max RPM and spin out even when tapping W due to being intended only for linear controls such as controllers, instead of on/off such as keyboards
  • Models regularly bug out (i.e. models with open jackets and ties often start going nuts when they shift between LODs. Many visual bugs appear with the LOD system.)
  • Visual bugs increase in severity and regularity the longer the game runs
  • When tabbing out there is a good chance almost all audio will cease to play unless you restart the game

The TL;DR
  • It's Half-Life 2 where you can murder your friends, and you'll likely only be murdering your friends since there's almost no active player base.
  • Maximum Justified Price: $1

The Good
  • Includes all HL2 weapons, including the stun baton and adds the SLAM
  • Small install size
  • Usually bundled with other games or given for free as a bonus

The Bad
  • Mostly dead, good luck finding any significant server base

The Ugly
  • Menus such as player models and team selection have been broken since SteamPipe update in 2013
  • Most of the remaining player base are cheap knock-off RP servers

The TL;DR
  • It's a WW2 horde shooter, not a stealth heist game like Payday. It's apples & oranges.
  • For <=$5 it can be a fun guns blazing romp.
The Good
  • The gunplay is fun, and enemies gib when hit hard enough. Spicy!
  • The game doesn't shy away from visually showing That Specific Symbol the WW2 Germans used. It feels visually more authentic to the time & location.
  • The cutscenes of Hitler losing his ♥♥♥♥ can be pretty funny.
  • Supports the BLT mod framework, and mod support allows you to tweak many things in the game you might not like.
  • Weapon upgrades are tied to just playing the game (get headshots, get hipfire kills, pick up ammo, etc.) instead of extremely asinine achievements like in Payday 2 (no requirement to kill three people with one headshot for a sniper scope here)
  • The game's modifier cards can be traded to your friends via Steam trading, if you so choose to do so.
  • The four class' Warcry abilities provide good variation to the group synergy effect. Being able to alter the effects of the warcry is also nice.
The Bad
  • In-game loose loot (dog tags, random gold bar-loot) is almost impossible to see in the (mostly nighttime) maps.
  • Many missions have time variations for day & night, while some are always at night. The mission list doesn't tell you which or give you a way to plan for it.
  • When entering the mission lobby, your weapons will often reset to the default loadout. The only way to fix this is the leave the lobby entirely, and renter the game lobby.
  • Not being able to check your challenge status for weapon upgrades in-game is somewhat of an annoyance when you think you were done, but you actually needed <5 more kills or something similar.
  • The character outfits look universally terrible.
The Ugly
  • Online & offline mode do not share progression. It's such an odd thing to split them into two gamemodes, but locking out your progress entirely is just artificial gameplay time inflation.
  • Almost non-existent playerbase. Have to bring your own friends along, most likely. It has bots, but they're not able to do much besides revive you & provide fire support.
  • THE AI NEVER SHUTS UP. They repeat the same lines over and over and over at least 5 or so times in the span of a few minutes. It's incredibly tiring.
  • The voice acting is genuinely terrible. It's not the worst I've ever heard, but it's pretty awful.

The TL;DR
  • It's HL2DM with co-op support, lots of bugs, and officially discontinued by the developers. Here be monsters.

The Good
  • It's HL2DM with co-op support
  • You can play through HL2, Episode 1, Episode 2, and several third-party mods
  • Has rudimentary Workshop support
  • It's free
  • Small install size
  • Several unique vehicles and weapons

The Bad
  • Abandoned by developers due to loss of source code
  • Workshop support is unreliable and has issues
  • Several odd design choices and bugs (spawning with 60HP)

The Ugly
  • Uploading to Workshop deletes the file you've input into it
  • Player base size is fairly small and servers are hit or miss in quality
