So far it's a fun little side story. In a way it feels like a test bed for features in future games. For $10 absolutely buy it, enjoy it, but do NOT expect XCOM 3.

Gameplay 8/10
It's got your standard XCOM feel to it but the interwoven turns certainly change things. Each decision in combat feels like it counts more with this type of system. Things can change quickly and unpredictably and if you're only given one unit turn before the enemy you might be left with two agents stunned or out of the fight until you can save them. Definitely adds more tension to each fight.

Graphics 8/10
Not a big change from XCOM 2.

Voice acting 5/10
Not great but not terrible. Not quite up to the voice acting of the previous games but for a $10 side story can you expect a masterpiece?

Music 3/10
Okay, here's where the game falls short in my opinion. After 9 hours of playing I've actually turned off the in-game music and started playing my own. The overall soundtrack is not bad (go listen to the OST on YouTube, it's way more enjoyable than in-game) but there are like two songs while on a regular mission that you'll hear almost constantly that don't add to the tension of the fights and are repetitive. Honestly the rest of the soundtrack is just fine, but since you'll be hearing these few songs in combat for the constant majority of the time I just cannot rate this part higher.

I admit. I was a bit reluctant at first to pick up this game. But once I did, I instantly knew that it was an incredibly good decision on my part. I fell in love within the first few minutes.

Imagine a game that takes you, the player, into a cakewalk. You find a cupcake here and there and maybe one or two spoiled ones. Not so bad, right? Then suddenly, the cupcakes turn into bricks. You wonder, "Wait, why did these cupcakes suddenly get hard?". You go around finding brick after brick, wondering when you'll find another cupcake. Then to your delight you find an entire damn chocolate cake. And not that cheap crap, either. This is the premo stuff imported from a five-star in Germany. You go to town and dig right in. Afterwards, you realize there's someone behind you. You turn around and what do you find? None other than the dark lord of hellfire and cats, and he's got a legion of pitchforks behind him that are going to be stuck somewhere; and there's no way in hell you'll find any cupcakes now. Now imagine that every five minutes that same dark lord clones himself and his legion threefold; those pitchforks ain't there for decoration, either.

That's what it's like playing Risk of Rain. An amazing experience of continuously being challenged against an ever increasing difficulty and number of foes. And that's on the single-player, too. You can invite three other friends with you so that you're not the only one being stuck by pitchfork-wielding cats.

The cool thing about this game is the wide-range of character selection, as well. Each character is its own experience to be played, along with their own pros and cons. Most of these characters must be unlocked by completing a certain achievement, making quite a few of them difficult to unlock.

A drug addict
A masochist
A hoarder
A poacher
A robot
A nerd with turrets for friends
A gold digger
An assassin
An animal
And a guy who likes swords

(Respectively: Commando, Enforcer, Bandit, Huntress, HAN-D, Engineer, Miner, Sniper, Acrid, Mercenary)

If you haven't already, then pick up this game. Seriously. Ignore the 78 metacritic score; it's complete bull.
This is a game that will give you hours and hours of entertainment with extreme amounts of replay value. I got RoR during the Steam Christmas sales, but I would gladly pay $10 for it. I know that as soon as I pick up the controller and launch Risk of Rain, I'm going to be stuck for hours at a time. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

On a scale of one to ten, I rate this game: HAHAHAHA
