My guy, all you need for your 1st playthrough is FusionFix mod (you can find it on github ; it's uploaded by ThirteenAG). It repairs the game's broken shaders (thus it restores the game's native / pure / intended graphics that only the console versions had for a long time), fixes the infamous z-fighting bug (textures on buildings would flicker constantly), improves shadow quality, and many other QoL (quality of life) improvements.

The 2 major aforementioned issues have been fixed quite recently - only a few months ago. Since the game's launch (2008), the community / fans are the ones who finally fixed the game. The performance remains bad though. This game is one of the worst console ports, after all.

On its github page, this essential, must-have unofficial patch has a comprehensive list of changes + some screenshot comparisons. Hope this helps.
