Last I remembered playing this, a major update pushing a new DLC broke both the DLC and the base game. I couldn't get 10 days into the game without some game breaking bug, sometimes even before my colonies could arrive.

This is a reoccurring problem with games published under Paradox Interactive that I refuse to further support. I'd be fine with their DLC focused release schedule if their devs were given the proper time and resources to release a real and well tested product in a reasonable time frame. However, this expectation is the exception instead of the norm.

I will never support PDX again until something is done about this.

I can no longer in good faith support a company that continues to rush DLC in half-finished states. Bug tracking and fixing is an untransparent process where some bugs are reported regularly and some are unclear if recognized. Some are so obvious as to happen within 10 years of over 20% of games, and others go unfixed for years. Every major update to the game, while made to the best of the devs efforts, is not given the time or resources needed to meet deadlines before shifting focus onto the next cash grab.

I'm not supporting Paradox until they can either accomplish a major overhaul without incident or commit to some other investment to the community capable of rebuilding this trust that's been damaged time and time again. While my personal favorite product of theirs is Stellaris, I have seen the same issues in what few other games of their's I've played (CK2/3, Surviving Mars). I will also never buy another CK3 DLC for my friends or myself for as long as this is an issue.

For a piece of art or a tool of meditation, the design of Mountain is... lacking or even antithetical to these goals. The initial moments are the best, where you're still exploratory, may discover the ability to sing, or even just enjoying the forest for its trees. However the accumulation of junk loses novelty and is actually frustrating to relocate or remove. Besides this junk and some hidden songs you'd be hard pressed to find on your own without a musical background or guide, your mountain is unchanging and always the same plain forest.

There is more issues, sadly. You can die randomly if the game is left running, which is neither fun nor relaxing. Even if you don't die, leaving the game running can cause several things to glitch out like running out of thoughts, items phasing through you, and losing what little functionality there is until you die to reboot the game, as even reloading it doesn't fix it. Finally, the "thoughts" of the mountain quickly become a repeating cycle of "I am <emotion> of this <adjective> <time>" which is a pattern so consistent and boring as to be distracting.

A hopeful but ultimately dull experience that isn't even relaxing instead. I can't even relate it to real life because if I want to make my life more relaxing or exciting I have the options to do so.

I'm mostly awaiting Adventure Mode, but this game's brand of !!Fun!! has kept me bright and warm for hundreds of hours. Glad to finally see it's UI become more accessible for the masses!

It'd really depressing to see so many reviews using the high price as a reason to make up other reasons to hate it.

Is the price too high? Honestly yeah. Does it have less content than other story packs? Largest story content DLC so far. Steam not acknowledging the purchase? Better review bomb. 3.10 patch to the base game nerfed your build? Go crash the DLC's ratings in some mock up of revenge.

I'm gonna just do what I do and continue playing the game I have well more than got my times worth in.

Early Access Review
Honestly it's the writing that sells this game. And thankfully you don't need to spend a dime to read any of it! Though I've perhaps spent a dime too many.
