Quite possibly the best game I have ever played thus far. Incredible artwork, gripping storyline, challenging boss fights and fluid gameplay. I can only hope the quality will remain top-notch until the end.

This game has barely improved since the beta. Things keep getting added to it, but that doesn't fix or excuse the poor base gameplay and the very lackluster technical side of things.

Separate Epic Online Services install which was not required when I played during early access. That alone makes me not want to play the full release.

I was not a fan of Frostpunk 1 at all. Frostpunk 2 is way more up my alley. I like the statesmanship and the city building aspects. It feels like you're properly guiding the remnants of humanity, rather than just setting up a little village. Performance is remarkably decent, despite my very outdated computer. The game is a little easy so far, but I'm only just about to wrap up chapter three. We'll see what challenges chapter four will bring.

A large amount of the upgrades available are straight-up percentual buffs, which are virtually required to beat the harder difficulties. There is little strategy to be found. The game is a grind to get upgrade points, which you can use to straight-up buff your weapons and ships, which you can then employ to get more upgrade points by lasting for more rounds. In other tower defense games, it is your strategy that determines whether you win or lose. In The Fall of Aether Station, winning or losing is mostly determined by how many upgrades you have. Positioning, fleet composition, even the mixture of turrets you're using matters very little. If you have two ships strong enough to tank the enemy wave, then the entire game boils down to the tedium of swapping between the two as the ship that'll be taking all of the hits.

On top of all of this, there are some very bad design choices that were made. For example: you can press spacebar to pause the game...unless you have a ship selected. Despite having an entire keyboard to work with, the developer thought it was a good idea to make spacebar both the pause button, and the "upgrade ship level" button. You can refund all of the upgrade points you've invested, which encourages experimentation; but doing so is a manual process of painstakingly undoing every single last upgrade (of which there can be dozens) one at a time.

Having played a decent amount of tower defense games, I wouldn't rate this one very highly. It tries to do something new with pathing, but I don't think the gimmick is very interesting, nor does it change the gameplay in any significant way. My advice to the devs would be to play some other games in the genre, figure out what they do right, and incorporate some of the lessons that they have learned into The Fall of Aether Station. As of right now, I can not recommend it.

Can the sergeant talking over the radio shut the heck up for five bloody seconds? I'm trying to shoot xenomorphs while she keeps constantly yapping about stuff that really should be talked about while we are not currently getting attacked by two dozen aliens. This frustration added on top of the mediocrity of the gameplay itself lends me to give this game a negative review. Thumbs down.

I decided to try this game again after letting it cook and simmer for a long time. Naval battles have gotten notably worse since the last time I played. I only managed to stomach one of them before uninstalling anew. Let me tell you why:

1) Whenever one of my ships had its target sink, it would suddenly stop moving, freezing in place without any slowdown whatsoever, ignoring any movement commands. These bugged ships would not resume moving, until after I had given them a new target, instantly shooting back up to their cruising speed.

2) Halfway through the fight, all of the enemy ships abruptly stopped shooting, using nothing but torpedoes from that point onwards.

3) Near the end of the fight, when I had destroyed all of the virtually-idle enemy vessels, my battleships stopped firing their main guns for no discernible reason.

4) Due to a new "game mechanic", the last remaining enemy ship was very hard to sink, because the accuracy of all of my ships was reduced to zero because they all focused fire on that one ship. You would imagine that having more guns shooting at any given target would increase their communal odds of hitting, but nope. The inverse is true in Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts.

How has this game been out for so long, yet it still struggles with inexcusable, crippling issues like these? For a game centered solely around naval combat, you would hope that the developers would at least get this aspect right. Alas, the ship has sailed, it struck a mine, and it has sunk. There was once a promising prospect of a game here. Now, it is lost at sea, and I doubt it will ever be found again.

It feels like the designers of the new bug types and the mission scenario people haven't even bothered to play the base game. I haven't gotten past the first mission yet, but it is already abundantly clear that they took all the worst parts of Starship Troopers: Terran Command, and somehow managed to make them worse without improving on any of the core aspects of the game.

Part of the first mission has you fighting against a timer to extinguish fires, while ranged bugs continually spawn within dense smoke. The smoke limits your sight range, and makes it so that your units will not automatically return fire when getting shot at. This leads to extreme micromanagement. Either you coddle your forces every step along the way, or you get to watch your units sit there and do nothing as they are shot to pieces by bugs creeping on the edge of their sight range.

This is beyond stupid, and exemplifies everything wrong with the base game. Who thought it was a good idea to make this part of the very first mission of the DLC? Better yet, who thought this was a good idea at all? It's a terrible, misguided concept made by people who clearly have not played Starship Troopers: Terran Command on any serious difficulty level.

Furthermore, the voice acting in particular strikes me as a major downgrade, which compounds on top of the general lower quality to make this DLC something I'm not even sure I want to keep playing. Nobody delivers their lines with any conviction, which is a big step down from the base game. While no marvel in the audio department, at least I could realistically believe the characters in the original to be a part of the Starship Troopers universe. In the DLC, everyone sounds out-of-place, which is very grating and jarring. It breaks my immersion, which further tarnishes my enjoyment.

I was a fanboy of Starship Troopers: Terran Command. Keyword being was. I don't know what happened to the development studio behind the game in between release and this DLC, but I don't like it one bit. If the goal was to drive away your budding fanbase by releasing a half-baked product, you have succeeded at least in my case. Adios, amigos.

On top of the game being barebones and broken at release, Creative Assembly have done nothing but lash out at their loyal consumers for trying to stick with them through these tough times. Price increases, vague threats of dropping support, and now outright censorship. Total Warhammer wasn't assassinated. It was burned to the ground by corporate greed and community mismanagement. Goodbye, Creative Assembly.
