The final boss of the game bugged out during an iron man hardest difficulty campaign. After reducing him to 1hp, I reloaded the game to fix the roof being rendered (so I couldn't see anything). He is now permanently in stasis (i.e. invulnerable). I can thus not finish the campaign, and a massive group of reinforcements just spawned that will most likely end my run in its entirety.
You should never make the final boss of your (iron man) game rely on a buggy, unpolished mechanic. I don't think I'll be finishing Chimera Squad, because by the time this bug gets fixed (if it gets fixed at all), I will probably already have lost interest in the game. RIP the thirty repetitive hours I spent getting to the end.

Unable to remap controls from within the game itself. Editing an unintuitive text file is not a great first impression of the game. Even worse: while some pre-set commands in said text file use "Shift+" a key to denote a command that requires shift to be held; I can not use Shift+A to issue attack commands. Instead, the Shift+ segment is ignored everywhere except for where it is pre-set by the developers. I was eager for the space salvaging simulator the developers are currently making, but after seeing this game, I am going to wait before buying.

Revised: the storyline's pretty terrible as well, with a Mary Sue character taking a leading role in what is supposed to be a military operation. Why does the captain of the expedition take orders from a science officer? Why is the science officer constantly referred to be her first name over battlefield-wide comms? Are my soldiers supposed to know everyone on a first name basis? In my opinion, the story would only benefit from the removal of Rachel as a primary character. The balance was pretty terrible, too, with siege cruisers outranging and outshooting virtually everything, with a massive AoE to boot. Don't buy this for more than $10, and only then if you're dying for a mediocre RTS game to play. For shame.

I really like games where you gradually throw everything you have at the enemy, your resources dwindling over time. On the hard difficulty, this is one of those games, since obtained wounds are permanent. If characters go down twice, they will die. So you have a gradually slinking cast of healthy men to send out on missions, some stronger than others. Eventually, you resort to putting wounded men back in to the line of fire, risking their lives to tilt the odds in your favor. This experience, in my opinion, sets the hard difficulty above the others in terms of fun and replayability.

My boner for dwindling resource management aside, Broken Lines is a far more solid game than I thought it would be when I first picked it up off of the Steam store. The blend between realtime action and turn based planning works really well. The missions aren't too hard, even on hard difficulty, but if you mess up even once, things can take a turn for the worse real fast. Coupled with the permanent injuries I told you about in the previous paragraph, this can make a campaign go from doable to butt-clenchingly hard in a single stroke of bad decisions. And that's a really good thing, if you ask me.

Weapon balance, I find a bit tilted in favor of submachineguns over shotguns, to the point where I don't ever use the latter, but that's nothing that can't be fixed in a later patch. Heck, maybe my opinion will sway more towards shotguns as I progress through game! For now, it feels that 2-3 SMGs + 2 rifles can tackle just about anything thrown at them, especially coupled with a few explosives and plenty of heals. The short range on shotguns puts characters in too much risk to make them worth it.

Overall, Broken Lines isn't the best game I've ever played, but it's pretty darn decent in its own right. A pleasant surprise! Maybe not a diamond in the rough, but a solid nugget of gold that could one day form a shiny piece of jewelry, if given a tiny bit more polish.

I gave Void Bastards a try after getting it in a Humble Bundle, but I simply can not get over the art style. It doesn't jive with me, and that immensely drags down my enjoyment of the game as a whole.

This game used to be very good. However, every new "Rundown" (i.e. set of maps) is worse than the last. In several missions, map generation RNG has a very large impact on the difficulty of any given run. This is made worse by the fact that you don't know whether or not RNG has screwed you over until you near the end of the mission. An hour of progress lost because your objective spawned at the very end of a zone instead of at the very start of it? That's GTFO for you. Completely unacceptable in my opinion. If my friends did not pressure me into playing GTFO with them, I would have ragequit and never looked back twenty hours ago. And even now, I find myself more and more unwilling to keep butting my head against a wall of RNG difficulty.

Sometimes you mow down entire hordes of aliens. Other times, you accidentally oneshot your friend at the start of the mission. The only thing consistent, is the amount of fun you will have.

The game has improved a lot since the beta. I'm glad they reversed some of the more questionable design decisions that ruined a lot of the fun during the later stages of early access. The battlepass isn't super expensive, and you get a lot in return for your five dollars. Much better than what it used to be.

FTL, but you're a pirate. Combat mostly consists of you telling your crew where to be (akin to distributing power in FTL). Instead of a single, linear rush to the end, Abandon Ship turns into a somewhat free-roam game after beating the first boss, which was a welcome change of pace for the first few hours. The game's a bit rough around the edges, it could use some more content (especially weapons and ship upgrades), and at times it's kind of repetitive. But overall, Abandon Ship is a good game, from what I've experienced so far. Would recommend.
