Early Access Review
I played a good chunk of NMRIH2 during the free weekend and I can understand why the game has remained Mixed reviews. The game is receiving an okay flow of updates from what I can see but It still has a couple flaws that needs to be addressed.

The Negatives:
Zombies: My BIGGEST complaint for this game is actually the zombies, I felt like i literately had no breathing space to do inventory management or to scavenge for supplies, I felt like I was just speed running house to house. Zombies just spawn out of thin-air in close proximity and that's what makes me dislike this game. Zombie spawn logic needs to be addressed.

Melee Combat: The melee combat is honestly just straight up trash. Everything often takes 2-3 hits to the face and then you're completely out of stamina, with the sheer amount of zombies you can get swarmed and overrun very quickly. More often than not, I found myself spam Kicking zombies to the ground or chopping their legs off in 1 hit as It's more effective than out-right killing them.

Barricades: Unlike the first game, You cannot place these barricades in locations of your choice and they honestly suck to carry and place. The benefit of these cades is you no longer need Nails and a Hammer but I feel like that pulls away from the immersion of the first game now. Their overall usefulness is meh.

Online Match-Making: It's unenjoyable having to play the game at 100-150ping with people speaking in a foreign language because I'm Australian and I get thrown into Asia/Singapore Servers. It would be so much more enjoyable if there was also a server browser feature for open lobbies and very early missions to join in.
There is no way to have a preference in which regions you'd like to join so you can get really unlucky and get thrown into a 300 ping lobby.

Difficulty: There is actually different difficulties in the game 1-4 then Nightmare. But there isn't a way to select which you want. Instead, you are given a difficulty based on everyone character level in the lobby and It determines for you. I honestly really hate this, I often found myself stuck playing on the same difficulty 3 when I really just wanted to play on 4 or Nightmare. I enjoy my games being really hard and unforgiving and being forced to play basically Easy Mode felt really boring.

Performance: Running a R7 5800X and RTX 3070 on Low-Medium Settings with DLSS Balanced, It still felt sluggish and ruined the overall experience but it was still playable. Optimisation needs some work.

The Positives:
Atmosphere and Graphics: Pretty decent atmospheric environment, There is almost always something to look at when you're traversing through the map with many of it's own Landmarks to easily identify. I haven't fully experienced High-Ultra settings as the performance is quite bad but even on Medium It looks fairly decent still.

Starting locations: You spawn separate from other players, This is a good thing because people would often vacuum up all the loot, especially newer players. This helps find and build your own character up with what you find then share resources.

Inventory/Weight System: I can appreciate the wheel menu for the inventory and items having weight to them to prevent hoarding everything. The item weight mechanic could use some more work but overall I enjoy people not being able to hoard everything they pick up. It's nice when people share resources for different types of ammo/meds.

Infection System: There is a chance for your character to become infected and just adds another element to the game I enjoy. There are pills you can consume to help prevent the infection or even a vaccine to cure the infection. I love the visual and audio details of when you're infected. Your vision starts fading as you hear a sort of different voices and noises. There is the occasional cough here and there to signal to other team mates you are infected as well. If you find your self out of options with not much time left, you can unalive your self with the K button.

Needs more baking in the oven. I'll stick to Project Zomboid until this gets better.

Zombies spawn in places you've already cleared, even triggering a car alarm spawns zombies infront of you.
It's not just zombies, theres' like different types of variant zombies and they're honestly annoying.
Said variant zombies feel like a meat sponge even blasting point blank with a shotgun.
UI feels overwhelming to look at and cluttered.
Performance is really shocking, constant stuttering even with all minimal settings.
There's an insane amount of loot the moment you spawn and half of it is just garbage.
You need to press ESC half the time to click "Clear all items and dead corpses on floor" because crap just vomits all over the floor.
The "perspective" artstyle of being behind a building is pretty bad, its honestly jarring and confusing.
The constant zombie sfx is annoying, nonstop growling and zombie aggro noise.

It's a rough game for sure and need's so much QoL features but overall I'm still really enjoying the game.

Postives:
Stealth feel's more polished, You're able to Open and Close door's, Cut open Glass Window's and Glass Containers, Lock-Picking is more interactive and faster.
You won't instantly fail stealth if you get spotted depending what area you were caught in (Private = Escorted) or (Secure = Handcuffed).
You don't have to worry about Threat Detection anymore, so you can bring whatever Armour and Weapon's you want.

The gun-play is an upgrade from PD2, It feel's pretty responsive and grounded, The Enemies don't feel like bullet sponges anymore either.

Special's got reworked a little, Being able to shoot the battery pack on the Taser, Shield's having a window slot to shoot through, Bulldozers are basically a single enemy but they're a massive threat typically welding a drum mag Shotgun that can and will charge at you if ignored, and a new enemy type that basically just throw's Gas to damage your health. I feel like they made Cloakers a bit too easy because they don't instant down you anymore, but they make up for it with their agility and speed, being able to parkour off walls and vault over obstacles.

The environment/world feel's pretty alive, with car's driving by and civilians talking to each other. The graphical improves are definitely there.

Soundtrack's and Sound-Design are still pretty decent, The music is dynamic even in stealth giving you a thrilling experience that you've finally managed to break in.

There's a narrative after the Heist to explain the after-math, Sorta like a Story Mode to tell you what's going on.

Negatives:
#1 New Ping system which is also mapped to the shout key, you can't spam shout at people anymore.
#2 There's no lobby browser like the Crime-Net in PD2, to see what people are playing and what difficulty.
#2 You can't play Single-Player, It's all Online-Play, so you can expect to lag even in a private lobby.
#3 There's no chat in the lobby/ready room.
#4 Just a generic weapon bash, Melee weapon's removed.
#5 Earn Infamy Level XP by doing challenges instead of just playing the damn game, which results in earning skill point's and unlocking new weapons so much slower.
#6 No Safe House at the moment.
#7 We've returned to weapon stat bar's, instead of numbers.
#8 Removed Weapon Lasers.
#9 Cutting Glass make's your mouse sensitivity insanely low, resulting in going slow.
#10 Skill's aren't too interesting and most of them are mediocre, feel's like a downgrade from PD2.
#11 Just overall Menu UI need's a redesign. It's chaotic to navigate.
#12 No tracking/pin on Challenge's you're trying to focus on. (Would be nice if we could pin them and they can be shown on the Tab menu in-game.)
#13 Cannot customize your character in the Ready Room. (You can change your loadout/skills though)
#14 Can only get Weapon Modifications by grinding A LOT of XP on that weapon.
#15 Most of the Gadget's feel pretty pointless besides the Motion Sensor.
#16 Cannot sell a weapon/mask back for Cash.

The only negative thing about this game is that it doesn't last long enough. It's got an amazing artstyle, the rhythm of the music is addictive and It's relaxing. It's an absolutely incredible game.

Great game concept, game mechanics and movement that honestly feels better than Hades but It seriously lacks game-play content and replayability as It reuses the same assets and its get's stale. You'll find your self beating the game faster than you unlock like 80% of the perks and weapons.

Had this game sitting in my library for awhile now and figured why not give it a try.

I really enjoyed the sound design with It's atmospheric environment, giving me an uneasy feeling the entire play-through as I was travelling deeper into the depths of the island. It has quite a slow burn to it but Is needed because of how unforgiving death is so you have to be cautious, It's about the journey and exploration.

My honest complaints are the Inventory micromanagement becomes tedious from a lack of slots as you're needed to craft resources into usable items. However you have a stash in the campfire to help aid your loot hoarding. The Bow and Hammer are completely useless and are not worth using, I only used the Hammer and Explosive Arrows for unlocking more exploration areas.

PS: Collect all the Lantern pieces to unlock the ending, There is only 1 ending as well to save you the trouble.
