Haven't heard of Top Racer? The Top Racer Collection consists of four awesome racing titles in one glorious package. With great music and almost 150 racing tracks throughout, what makes the Top Racer titles stand out is the amount of depth found in each title. Sure you can pickup and play for a great arcade racing experience however to succeed you'll need to understand the in depth mechanics that encompasses each title. With split screen and added online multiplayer and a huge amount of content the Top Racer Collection is a great add to everyone's library.

- Happy Thanksgiving 2024 :)

In the context of How to Survive, the games inventory should be based on weight and not on the allocation of inventory slots.

The game has inventory stacking, a common QoL feature so I can add 20 of this and 20 of that but I can't add a 5 oz plant because there isn't a slot for it. Annoying.

Otherwise the game, though over a decade old, has many positive features like seeing the tombstones of your friends who played through the game previously and met their bitter end so to speak.

This isn't the first game with this type of inventory design. Stalker comes to mind but thankfully there is always a patch, a mod or a hack to get things sorted. Sadly there is none that I know for How to Survive. Still a thumbs up if you can get by the inventory issues.

Breakpoint offers highly customizable game-play. Play as a looter shooter or not. The open world is vast and dare I say majestic in scope. The game offers multiple vehicles including planes, military and civilian helicopters, cars, trucks and boats.

There are multiple factions you'll encounter. Solo is very viable with the added option to go solo or playing with a squad. Weapons and attachments are numerous with each weapon type offering a limited skill tree. Stealth is well done as is the combat. The A.I. on normal difficulty is O.K. though I see people recommending to set the A.I. to extreme.

I played using Mouse / Keyboard and I found the controls to be a mixed bag. There is no jump and a step over requires a button press but you must be in the correct position for the button prompt to appear. Generally not a big deal but when you're hiding in a dumpster and a grenade comes your way aligning your character (3rd person) to get out of the dumpster can lead to frustration.

As open world game Breakpoint comes with a huge caveat. The game is highly repetitive, almost a one trick pony, though as long as you enjoy stealth and infiltration type game-play you'll definitely get some serious mileage here however you'll probably tire of the game long before main and faction quests are completed.

*** Gem Alert! ***

Rush Rush Rally is a Dreamcast port done well. A difficult but fair 2D overhead racer which like most games in the genre requires track knowledge (10 tracks that I know of). Five cars plus secret vehicles with the usual varying degrees of acceleration, speed and handling. Steam integration includes Remote Play, Family Sharing, Steam Cloud and Achievements (difficult) but no global leader-boards..

Modes include campaign in which you'll play to unlock subsequent racks, a challenge mode where you'll race one on one and time challenge with local leader-boards. A review mentioned the lack of a mini map but I feel it is completely unnecessary. Multiple controller types recognized, controls are good and each car feels well differentiated.

A great addition to my Steam library.

Idea is good, the programming and minimalist visuals are good but as an arcade Breakout / Arkanoid variant the game fails.

Where Arkanoid and its more common variants have paddles, Probe has a probe that shoots vertically meaning you have to shoot the ball. The issue is primarily when your probe is in single shot mode it's not a matter of skill. Hold down the shot button and move your probe side to side tracking the ball but it's very possible for the ball to just pass through the intermittent bullet stream. Needs work to flesh out this issue.

An open world stealth / action fantastical tour de force role playing game which pulls you in from the very beginning and keeps you entertained, invested and motivated throughout. A 2017 SONY first party production created by Guerrilla Games featuring a highly detailed open world, excellent game mechanics and a coming of age yarn told through questing. Technical accomplishments such as varied and consistent A.I. for a plethora of game actors, fantastic world modeling across a plethora of genomes, top notch animation, graphics and sound all require a mention.

With all that said combat is the star here with diverse tools given to the player to accomplish goals in this huge and highly populated immersive open world. Over leveling can help towards difficulty but does not ruin the game as may happen in many RPGs. Incredible attention to detail by the development team and that SONY 1st party touch really shines. Game mechanics may take sometime to understand. Runs on very low level PC specifications as I played on an under spec'd cpu. Huge recommendation. Must play if your interest is RPG, action, stealth, hunting (yes virtual hunting enthusiasts would be right at home here) or any combination of.

An exceptionally deep D&D RPG that will crush you if you put together a weak party. No recruitment throughout though if you play pure (no reloading) your party members can be eliminated from the game through permanent death (without possibility of resurrection).

All six party members from the start. You can select any or all of the pre-made characters or roll your own. Attribute roles are very lenient as you can allocate / de-allocate attribute points between characters. Not to fear though an excellent utility exists to modify attribute points after starting.

An incredible number of party permutations. Not only are there an incredible number of spells for magic users but special abilities for characters based on class and "kit". Game affecting options in the menu just add onto the heap of game-play possibilities.

Knowledge of party construction is practically a requirement due to the different number of scenarios and mobs the game throws out you, however there are an incredible number of viable parties. Depending on game options the game can be very punishing though easier modes will allow just about anyone to see the ending. Play on core rules or harder and you will need to understand the rule-set to finish.

Given the age of the original game the enhanced edition offers excellent 2D graphics and incredible game enhancing sound. Perhaps the best sound work in any game in the genre.

So demanding, entertaining, thought provoking and ultimately rewarding I played through twice. My highest rating and recommendation.

Published on Steam way back in 2016 FullBlast is a very accessible bullet hell "lite" vertical shooter. Set the game on Hard difficulty and you'll find a more interesting experience than playing on lower difficulties. Normal difficulty is just too mundane and is more geared toward casuals.

Visually FullBlast is visually arresting incorporating colorful artifacts and detailed though repetitive backgrounds. On Easy and Normal difficulties FullBlast is easily the most forgivable shooter that I've encountered allowing the user to be hit many times by incoming projectiles though colliding with bosses seems to be instant death. Very accessible for casuals with easily learned bullet patterns that can be mastered after a run or two. Most of the 12 stages are of significant length. Some may call this filler but there's just more game here so not a negative.

FullBlast features local coop and though I've stayed solo I can see that playing coop on Hard can be entertaining playing with a friend. The employed theme has a "touch" and a "hint" of Cave's masterpiece Mushihimesama and combined with the good visuals and accessible game-play FullBlast can be an enjoyable lite bullet hell for all except the most critiquing bullet hell veterans.

A very well constructed Qix clone featuring a story mode, arcade and free Halloween content and if you're interested in complete female nudity an adult patch is available free of charge as a Steam download though it's nothing you haven't seen in any biology class as if I needed to qualify nudity.

The story mode consists of 8 females and 24 villainous tormentors across 32 boards where you the savior employ Qix like mechanics to save the distressed damsels and become the hero of the day. Arcade mode is simply a trek through all 32 boards in sequence. Each mode has attached achievements and leader-boards.

Mokoko X features some very corny voice addicting adding to the overall presentation and comical atmosphere. I've played many Qix clones and Mokoko X ranks up with the best.

WRC 5 created by KT racing after Milestone's comparably good effort with WRC 4. Looking at the game's features it's very apparent that WRC 5 is not a polished product.

- No rewind function like WRC 4 for one and when pressing Y the game takes you back to a checkpoint or at least that's how I interpreted the reset.

- Local leader-boards are a catastrophe and it's clear the development team didn't have enough time to develop a proper A.I. to compete against. Take your time and simply finish without resetting (that Y button) and you magically win with the A.I. racer behind you in a range of 2 seconds to milliseconds every single time. I'm not sure what the developers were trying to pull but there's even a hint screen which states (paraphrasing) don't complain about the A.I. times.

Another issue arising out of this nonsense is that if you don't have friends there is no legit times to compare your performance against. Thankfully as of this late writing the online leader-boards are still active though the top times are all exploited. Another issue is that the times run by your friends do not reflect the class of car whether WRC Junior, WRC 2 and WRC. WRC 4 had WRC 3 and that isn't here though that may perhaps reflect 2015's real life WRC tournament but I'm not in the know.

- Tuning options are present and the tuning / repair screen is nice so kudos to the graphics artist responsible for this aspect of the game. Said that, tuning options are sparse with many options only having binary choices. Repairing is novel and unlike the simple repair option in WRC 4, KT implemented time based repair where each repair costs you a number of minutes, only you're allowed up to 45 minutes without incurring a penalty for the next race for exceeding 45 minutes. I tested this by exceeding 45 minutes and was docked approximately 2 minutes for the next race though unfortunately due to the lack of A.I. I spoke of in the previous paragraph I won the next race anyway. So yes it's just gloss with no real consequences.

- Graphics can be good at times in fact very nice at higher resolutions (QHD+ supported) but they are inconsistent, especially the night time races where the graphics look like they're from a decade earlier than when the game was published.

- Control is OK and KT has provided welcome sliders for steering and other racing aspects however I am not one to validate their driving model. I'll just say that control was OK and I had no issues with getting comfortable with the driving model.

- Like everything else which was just OK the sound didn't particularly bother me other than the engine sounds which I had to turn down quite a bit. Someone mentioned here that the engines sounds like a blender and at a higher enough volume I had to concur.

Overall though, still a thumbs up for such a heavily unpolished product. KT doesn't get any sympathy because of Nancon pressure to deliver at a hard release date (just a theory) but I did have a good time with the game and many of the stages (but not all) are sufficient and fun to play. Depending on what you expect you may feel differently than I and given the mixed rating here I'm sure there are plenty who aren't happy with the final product.
