Literally cant recommend a better zombie survival sim.

As goofy as it may be sometimes, I dont think theres something that depicts what COULD be as accurately and meticulously.

The only "problem" I have is how zombies come into existence from thin air, but theres a system that does it. Either they're pulled in from surrounding areas over time (by game mechanics) or they passively spawn from a storyteller AI generator type deal if you enable zombie respawn.

And thats not even really an actual problem.

No multiplayer. RIP what used to be an option in the game but now is no longer being even advertised

After playing over 24 hours into stalker 2: I feel like I can make a actually somewhat comprehensive review. This is a initial release review.

Yes, I am a tourist. This is my first stalker game, so I will NOT be comparing this to other stalker games. This is purely an objective view of this game alone, I've seen some game-play of the other games so I only knew somewhat what to expect and that's it. For you TL:DR people, there will be a one or two sentence recap underneath every point in this review.

The good: What I think they got right.

-Active updates.
The developers are actually fixing current problems with the game, and have already posted patches within the first three days. (Two at the time of this review) This is a good sign. The game has bugs but already has a very solid release that is being getting ironed out. Here is the place to report any bugs YOU find: https://support.stalker2.com/hc/en-us/articles/29872226088209-How-to-Report-a-Bug-for-S-T-A-L-K-E-R-2-Heart-of-Chornobyl
TL,DR: Devs are fixing any active bugs / issues. See link to report any bugs you find. They really appreciate it.

Sorry, i'll move onto the game itself now. The devs just deserve a bit more credit than some of the soyjaks the negative reviews below are giving them. (Hot take)

-Gunfighter mechanics are pretty great

The gun fighting is solid and picking the right ammunition and firearms for your expected targets is extremely crucial and is the difference of you endlessly using meds trying to kill some bandits vs. killing them effectively in a few shots. Most people are wearing even at least basic armor, so standard FMJ shouldnt be your go to, but.. Even if you just bring regular ammo, you still get rewarded fairly well skill wise if you hit them in the head a few times (if they're armored or shooting from ineffective ranges) Most of the mutants are tanky, but the same concept applies well here in ammo types and skill. Something to keep in mind (depending on your difficulty) is that NOT EVERY SINGLE BATTLE IS WORTH FIGHTING, know when to disengage and run. Weigh what you gain from a fight, and find the best solution to it to minimize loss.
TL,DR: The guns feel great stalker, but you need to choose your ammo wisely, or you'll have to shoot more or be foreced to play creatively if you dont. Sometimes you just have to run.

-The economy relatively makes sense... from someone looking at it overall.
Guns are absolutely plentiful, so is ammo, so is food, so is meds. All come from the mainland as well as various sources, all is a universal constant and is being supplied somehow, someway, to the zone. So they sell cheap. Real cheap. But... You can commonly find guns amongst people and can use them or repair them, or sell what you can. Guns are the best overall thing to sell in the game but they're extremely heavy, and suits sell for a lot more however they're very very rare. The zone doesn't generate money for the equipment you have, it generates money from the anomalies. People are paying for artifacts for research etc, so those are the real deal for selling. And your reputation especially matters with this, if they dont like you: its not favorable. I've seen people moan and goan that items sell for meager profits etc but i've had little issue making money in the game. Do your sidequests, be smart about looting, dont skimp out on loading yourself if you're near a trader, and you'll very easily make profits. The real monetary pains come from you letting your equipment go to crap as its VERY expensive to fix a very broken weapon vs. a slightly worn one. Especially your suits. The economy works for you, if you actually take the time to make it work for you. You also need to be searching for loot, the real loot is stashes around the entire map. Before I left the lesser zone for the first time I had nearly 30,000 coupons.
TL,DR; Dont waste your coupons, stalker. Sell everything you dont need / want to keep, the economy can be very unforgiving.

-Wear and tear on weapons is excessive, but still makes sense.
It is absolutely no simulator in this aspect, but they are very serious when they say "take care of your gear or you'll regret it" literally and figuratively. Your weapons wear out slowly at first from what i've noticed but once they're worn they degrade very quickly. Ontop of this, it is very expensive to repair (as mentioned before) any severely damaged equipment and will sincerely set you back a solid amount of coupons, if not make you completely broke in the beginning of the game. I see it like replacing entire upper/lower receivers of a weapon vs. expendable parts like gas rings when fixing broken equipment vs. repairing it when its hardly damaged at all. Do not skimp out on repairing your equipment. The other end is that maintenance costs do go up as you buy better and better gear. Its cheap to maintain old / basic weapons like a AK-74SU. But expensive to maintain a very well kitted out AR.
TL,DR: Take care and repair your equipment stalker, you WILL regret spending 7000 coupons on a single damaged piece of equipment because YOU neglected it instead of spending 500 earlier.

The bad

AI are glitchy and can feel unnatural and awkward. (The main issue)
Interacting with AI speech wise in english is sometimes awkward. You're roaming the zone and suddenly you hear a british accent... What? The Ukrainian voice overs absolutely sound like they belong (naturally), but the mouth animations follow with English a bit better since the syllables dont sound nearly as fast, perhaps thats just me. Additionally, for some quests you have to talk to the AI several times before you get dialog prompts. Often, they say something and then you have to talk to them again to actually move on with the quest dialoge. It makes it feel like that was all they had to say the first time and its time to move on. QUEST SPOILER: I had this problem saving the monolithian (The ninth) I lost the opportunity to get a blueprint because he died to an ingame event. I needed talk to him multiple times, but he didnt have an interaction beyond basic dialog initially. I assumed incorrectly that was all he had to say. Now I lost the blueprint opportunity permanently as I didnt have a save right then and I had already progressed way too far to go back now. If you throw a bolt at a friendly's head, they just make a facial expression of pain and dont even flinch their body or make a sound. Combat dialog is lacking and repetitive. "I'M HIDING HERE." x10.
TL,DR: English voices sound out of place, but the mouth animations are better for english. Trying to talk to specific AI wont initially yield a dialog interaction menu and you have to talk to them multiple times to get it. AI can be unnatural or glitch out, but its not game breaking.

The ugly.

STEALTH IS ENTIRELY BROKEN.
Why can I be seen through a bush, in the pitch dark, with no head lamp on, not moving, nearly 50+ meters away? Why can AI see me when i'm behind them? Why can they not hear the cans i'm stepping all over right behind them? Why can they sometimes see me through walls? Why can they even sometimes see me through floors? Why does stealth killing with a knife sometimes alert everyone within a 1 mile radius when all they did was make a quiet gurgle? The only way to stealth is to kill with a silencer, and only just barely. The moment an enemy catches a pixel of a corpse everyone is on alert.
TL,DR: Stealth is nonexistent unless you use silencers. Pray you dont get spotted at all.

I ran out of characters, so the critique is pretty short in comparison to my praise. I've prioritized what i've wanted to say.

Yes. Do it. Yes. I wish they had more in-built levels, to be frank. But thats what the player levels are for! This is a perfect time waster.

It's ability to produce some of the most amazing yet complex creations is outstanding.

but I genuinely cannot recommend this game. This game is genuinely not a "game" anymore as there ultimately is no overall objective. It used to be a search and rescue game but it has far expanded past it's immediate view. They had a nice career mode years ago, but they've removed it since and now there is no progression. Just the needs of cash and how you go about making it to purchase things.

Not to mention the physics in this game has been hardly at all modeled correctly, and every time you create a vehicle every update breaks that vehicle because they keep reinventing the wheel all the time which is both a great and a terrible thing.

If you came for search and rescue, you're actually buying a sandbox vehicle simulator. This is no longer about search and rescue anymore.

I've had this game for YEARS, and they've still hardly fixed the multiplayer issues. Dont even get me started on how unoptimized it is. Its better than it used to be, but far from perfect in any and all capacities.

I literally cannot play this game longer than an hour or two at a time because the quests are copy / paste. Everything is mind-numbingly boring. The AI are all dull and have very meaningless interactions. Exploration is unsatisfying. An abysmal amount of loot is junk that is hardly even worth bothering to carry just to sell for meager profits. Gunfighting is the only fun bit, and its not even that fun due to enemy scaling rendering any "progress" you feel being meager at best. The worst part has to be the quests; constant fetch quests that mean nothing, have no interaction with the world around you meaning if you ignored or did it nothing changed anyways so what was the point.

This is skyrim, if you took every bit of the wonder, lore, depth, and feeling of combat prowess in the game away; then added space ships and guns.
