I write this review a few months after finishing the game with a need to tell you about its brilliance:

If you like a dark, surreal, grotesque atmosphere sprinkled with some wonderful puzzle design then please step right up and give this game a try. All I had to do was witness the spooky art to get hooked and give Lloyd a trembling hand. There are tense moments, wall-waking moments, chase scenes and the like, without becoming too reliant on each trope. Dreams can suddenly become nightmares - as all of us are aware, but for some they appear so life-like that it’s hard to tell what goes where. Join a disturbing cast (from wheelchair-bound grandma to the eye-less zombie) in this intrepid adventure through Lloyd dreams.

And you know what they say….. sometimes all it takes to solve a puzzle, is a severed limb!

When it’s not trying to rip your hair out and your every step - no, your every bullet is firing with the beat, this game becomes a meditative adventure. Of course, you will so die many times to leave you bald but occasionally, the music, your aim and the enemies sync into a bloody, chaotic rhythm guided by candles and adorned by skulls.

The art is beautiful and minimalist as you fight through dens of drugged-out zombies and partying vampires while trying to uncover whatever dirty secrets these foul creatures are up to. Half detective, half assassin, you – the reaper – are the clean up crew. As you gather souls, you gather weapons; as you gather weapons, you gather information; as you gather information…? The plot thickens, I’d say!

The game can be brutal, be forewarned… but if that’s your thing, then pay Charon his fee and let him ferry you into the underworld of Deadbolt.

Simplistic yet nostalgic in its presentation, Pixel Cup Soccer 17 is a fun bit-sized futbol arcade game. Although it unfortunately appears abandoned, it has enough content (or achievements if that's your thing) to keep you entertained for a few hours.

I really think this has potential to become a cult classic in the pixelated futboling world (by adding your own custom teams, adding the chance of fouls (maybe?), make the goalkeeper not as invincible, give more than one way to win the ball in the air, and maybe another difficulty setting?) but alas it is highly unlikely this game will ever see change in the future.

All things considered, as it stands now, it's an entertaining but flawed little game, worthy of a mixed review and a buy at your own risk warning more than this reluctant thumbs up.

Great idea, fun execution.

The moment you install this simplistic yet addictive RTS, you will realize that hours have passed by while you were busy murdering backwater barbarians and looting intellectual wizards. Yeah, it's rough...
But the point remains that its a great time sinker for such a low price.

Empires rise and fall in Mountaintopia as you try to become its newest overlord by slaying and butchering all that stands in your way... standard RTS stuff. You can scavenge for resources, recruit dragons and goblins, go on monster hunting missions and save the world. There will not be a single uncolonized mountaintop by the time you are through with it.

Although addictive, it may come off as shallow in the late game but there are some nice difficulty settings to keep you occupied until you jump into a new world conquering adventure. For all of this, I give it a thumbs up.

Its description: punishing but rewarding.
Its best feature: satisfying movement.
Its presentation: beautiful art.

The first thing that attracted me into making an instinctive purchase was the art. The colors are attractive and work well to distinguish bullet from foe. As soon as I saw our silver hair protagonist jumping wall to wall to samurai slash baddies I was hooked and couldn't be more excited to play.

After installing it, the next thing that got my attention was the movement. It is buttery smooth (at times so smooth, you lose the plot with all the enemies and bullets flying around) and super responsive. If you run head on into a bullet, it's because you weren't quick enough or made an error rather than the limitations of the games itself (like clunky movement) preventing you from playing at your best. In a fast-paced action platformer, movement will make or break the game and this game excels in this area.

At the end of the day, when you hear the words "roguelite" and "platformer" you know you in for a masochistic treat. You will die... a lot. But fear not, for there is a nifty progression tree, a series of bosses and a greedy (get it?) merchant waiting for you in and after every level to give reason and respite to every death.

May your sword be true and your jumps inspired!

Super fun!

The loot was great, the monsters unique and the fighting entertaining. Traverse the bit Dungeon world with only your trusted weapon and the soul of a ghost by your side.
I did wish that every time you leveled up, you'd get full health. Then I wouldn't have been so paranoid about fighting away from those health camp fires (or dying in the Dark World).
I (unintentionally, truth be told) reached level 80 and the last two bosses were a piece of cake. Of course, I don't think you need to grind much to beat them, but it helped me.

Overall, I enjoyed my time with it.

Visionary.

I can taste the beginning of open world games while walking through the fields of Adelpha. The game has aged surprisingly well considering its release date. I had been meaning to play this classic for a while and although some achievements appear to be bugged, the experience alone is worth it.

If you plan on 100% it, get the new iteration. If you want to know what it felt like in 1999 to play this gem, then get this version.

Cutter's treatment in Adelpha is exactly what it feels like to be an immigrant, minus all the side quests jaja

There are some bugs present (including the achievements) but they are not game breaking. The traveling back and forth between regions can get tedious so make sure to use F-links judiciously and ride your Twon-ha wherever there’s no water. Also save VERY OFTEN (with your gamesaav).

I did enjoy the world of outcast and its portrayal of what an interaction between an alien culture and some marauding earthlings would look like. The reactions of the talan as you begin to undermine Fae Rhan’s authority was surprising, seemingly making the world feel alive as NPC’s began to train across the regions.

It’s just well made; the attention to detail, the cutting-edge technology (for its time), the music, the humor, enemy soldiers getting weaker through your attempts to aid the masses and so forth… so many surprising elements for a game that’s supposed to be old and withered.

If you care about gaming history, then Adelpha is a planet you must visit to become the ULUKAI!

Lovely.

Relaxing.

Short and sweet.

Wonderful little gem about a bird that goes on vacation. I liked soaring the skies across the island and talking with other animals. I liked completing all the little quest such as comforting the struggling painter with his doubts and fears, although listening to the turtle talk about his sand city was pretty funny as well. Claire is a good bird and I hope her mother recovers well. If the pixelated graphics and the flying speak to you, then do not wait any longer and get this game.

You begin as a weakling? Check.
Pretty graphics? Check.
Lots of exploring? Check.
Lots of weapons? Check.
Difficulty increases as you play? Check.

Honestly, if you like metroidvanias then this is a no brainer. Can you get lost sometimes? Yes. Not understand where to go? Sure. Checkpoints far apart (especially when under equipped)? Many a times, but the community is pretty good in answering questions and you just have to be smart with saving often and not going too far without health supplements. The few puzzles there are a bit immersion-breaking but you'll figure it out in no time.
Now off you go to save the town and be the hero.
