A point-and-click adventure game with unique mechanics that you may or may not already be familiar with. It's tagged as horror but I wouldn't say it's very scary, but rather it has more of a spooky atmosphere.

I played the original version before the commercial release, and basically this adds more gameplay and the puzzles can be much more devious. Though, I completed it before there was a hint system added, so you might have an easier time!

Also, for the other comments that claim you can't reset the game: You actually can because there's more to the game after the initial "ending".

Overall, I recommend the game if you're in the mood for unconventional puzzles.

Save-chan is absolutely and undeniably best girl.

Okay, seriously, Demonpact: Clarice is pretty good. Basically, if you're in the mood for an unconventional RPG with a silly yet dark sense of humour (i.e. Earthbound-esque) and a lot of attention to detail, then you'll probably enjoy this game.

After a good amount of hours of One Step from Eden, I wholeheartedly recommend it. As someone who doesn't usually play "rouge-lite" type games, I nevertheless found myself quite addicted to its real-time card mechanics and challenging boss fights. The amount of variety from different builds and several unlockable characters to play as really help keep you addicted to this game.

Now, people seem to compare this game to Megaman Battle Network, which is a fair comparison considering its core grid gameplay and the developer's own words, but I feel it's a little inaccurate. It's more like a game within the genre of action RPGs with deck-building rather than a complete clone, borrowing inspiration from The World Ends With You and Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories as well.

Some players are also intimidated by One Step from Eden's difficulty, and it's no surprise when you consider that there have been no new releases of these types of games in the same vein for the last decade or so, which means almost everyone is either new to the genre or out of practice (I know I am). From my personal experience, even though the difficulty ramps up quite quickly for each individual run, it definitely gets easier overall the more you recognize patterns and learn how to play. Plus, the developer has been tweaking the game difficulty since its release date, which should alleviate fears of the game being too hard.

In short, One Step from Eden is an underrated breath of fresh air to a long forgotten genre, and you should play it if you like good music, a slick art-style, and real-time combat with deck-building mechanics.

The game also has cute anime waifus, which automatically raises its rating at least a few points.
