Pros:
  • Very faithful to the original title which is a game with some very interesting and unique mechanics, such as a time limit to every objective.
  • Some very good quality-of-life improvements like being able to fast-forward time and the game not resetting camera when you start to aim.
  • The new rocket launcher is pretty neat.

Cons:
  • Disappointingly, none of the voice actors have returned, and some of them sound way worse, like Brad.
  • The new graphics look nicer, but I still think the original game looks fine so the new graphics didn't do much for me.
  • Would have been interesting to see a re-imagining ala RE4 remake. This is so faithful you could argue that you might as well just play the original game, though the QOL improvements are very nice.

Pros:
  • Fio is in the game.
  • Gameplay is more fun than your typical gacha title.
  • You can play as Fio.
  • A lot of content. Maybe too much content maybe in fact.
  • Fio is the best.
  • Though I prefer my Metal Slug to be pixel art, the 3D graphics in this are surprisingly effective at replicating the charm of the original titles.
  • Fio is so cool.

Cons:
  • It's a gacha!
  • P2W as far as you can see.
  • Infinite grind.
  • Oh dear lord gacha.

Pros:
  • Faithful to the original Gobliiiins games.
  • Very charming personality. Especially the wizard staff character.
  • Creative puzzles.
  • Very, very, very French.

Cons:
  • Sometimes I wonder if it's maybe a bit too French.
  • A few puzzles are very mean.
  • The frog lady is terrifyingly scary.

Note: Playtime is low because I didn't play through the game on Steam.

Great walk'n'gun arcade game with excellent pixel art. I was especially impressed by the sprites and how they are animated. There are some nice quality-of-life features added to the game emulation like rewind. On the flip side, some expected features are missing, like volume sliders and exclusive fullscreen support.

The gamepad support in the game seems broken out of the box. I don't know why it's set up like this, but gamepad support is configured to emulate mouse and keyboard. You can fix it by opening the Steam overlay (shift+tab), going to controller settings, and choosing gamepad template rather than the default mouse & keyboard template.

Another disappointment with how the game is configured on Steam is that it doesn't support Steam Remote Play. Works just fine with Parsec, though. Just remember to do the above gamepad fix for the additional gamepad when playing through Parsec.

  • Poorly balanced. Claire with her stun grenades and Chris with his invincibility ability seem overpowered, at least for low-level gameplay.
  • You can upgrade your characters the more you play the game. Not great for a competitive title.
  • RNG is a heavy part of the gameplay. You could spend ages not finding a single virus capsule, or you could be lucky and spawn right next to 2 of them.
  • You'll commonly end up in fights with multiple players, at which point it feels completely random who gets the final hit on a player and thus all the points for the kill.
  • Extremely low amount of content. One game mode (free-for-all deathmatch) and two maps.
  • The gunplay and abilities don't feel especially satisfying to use.
  • A lot of monetization for a game that isn't free-to-play.

On the bright side, the game can lead to some stupid fun when playing with friends, but you'll quickly get tired of interacting with the small amount of content there is. Playing against randoms I just found frustrating.

Hopefully, one day Capcom will realize the most popular Resident Evil multiplayer content have been their co-op modes: Mercenaries, Outbreak, and Raid Mode. That's what they should be inspired by when making new online experiences.

Early Access Review
Pros:
  • Heroes of Might & Magic-style game with very pretty pixel art graphics.
  • Seriously, the pixel art looks very very pretty.
  • Pacing is handled well: You can double-click to skip walk animations. Battles where you overwhelmingly outmatch the opponent can be skipped.
  • It's in early access, but there's quite a bit of content thanks to the skirmish and multiplayer modes that can be played for dozens of hours.
  • The pixel art is very VERY nice.

Cons:
  • It comes with the genre, but a full match is quite the time commitment. A full skirmish match can be 2-4 hours long.
  • I'm not sure if it's actually the case, but it feels like the AI is cheating when it comes to how quickly they're able to re-build armies.

The game feels like the equivalent of a cheesy b-movie. It's very janky, the animations are awkward, the cutscenes and dialogue are unintentionally funny, the pacing is all over the place, but overall, it all adds up to an oddly charming package. The gameplay is never great, but it's very varied and it keeps throwing you into completely different gameplay scenarios which is pretty neat.

I feel this is best played with a group of friends so you can all point out and laugh at the absurdity of everything happening in the game.

That said, there were a few combat sequences late in the game where the difficulty felt overly frustrating. The game is pretty easy overall, so that difficulty spike came out of nowhere.

A fun game in the explore-a-big-mansion-and-solve-a-bunch-of-puzzles genre. I found most of the puzzles to be on the easy side, but they're still fun to solve and they do become progressively harder. It can become a bit overwhelming keeping track of where all the puzzles reside, and for that reason I highly recommend writing down notes as you play through the game. If you don't, you'll find end up asking yourself "Where was that macguffin now as I've found the key for it?" a whole lot as you find inventory items.

The mansion is very well designed and it's a nice touch you can pick up a lot of items and examine them with a zoomed-in view. I did experience quite a bit of stuttering as I explored the mansion. I'm not sure if that's due to streaming or a bug.

I think my biggest complaint about the game is that I found the ending to be rather lackluster. But overall, this is an enjoyable and very accessible puzzle game.

I'll change my review if the game gets patched, but for now, I'm leaving a negative review because this PC port is a big step backwards compared to the KOF14 PC port.

I've run into these issues:
  • There's no support for 2560x1440 resolution. This is pretty baffling considering KOF14 supported it just fine (14 supported even more resolutions that's missing in 15) and UE4 itself definitely doesn't have any resolution limitations. I tried changing resolution to 2560x1440 via an INI change, but the game reverted to 1080p once you press a button at the title screen.

  • You can't map directional keys, space, or tab when redefining player controls. Again, KOF14 supported this just fine. You can map diretional keys if you do it via memory editing, but that shouldn't be a required step. And space and tab aren't possible since they've become system keys that's impossible to remap.

  • If you're a keyboard user and you're using certain keyboard locale then certain menu prompts will be impossible to ever do. For instance, there are prompts for [ and ], but there are no keys for that on my keyboard (I type them with a multikey combination), and it ends up being impossible to ever press those prompts.

  • The game has performance issues. I've got no idea what the cause could be, but certain moves can cause a minor stutter. The climax special moves can cause a major stutter. I've heard from other people they've experienced similar issues, so this could be bugs that affect everyone.

An extremely flawed gem of a game. Cool environments, good music (well, except for the areas where they forgot to add music), good graphics for the time, best Lara in the series, good story, great animations, but...

Since the developer wasn't able to finish the game, it naturally ended up with a lot of flaws: the controls are worse than earlier games, partially because the levelup mechanic makes it harder to get used to a default jump length; enemy AI basically doesn't exist; some later levels feel very unfinished; some boss fights are extremely bad and hardly makes sense; and playing as Kurtis is extremely dull as his moveset is extremely limited and his levels are very uninteresting.

There are mods that improves some aspects of the game, but overall, it's an extremely imbalanced experience.
