It's short but fun, need more reverse horror games it's a blast getting to play the monster.

I got lost a lot, kinda wish there was a map for people with no memory or sense of direction but oh well I managed to finish it in the end.
In a lot of ways the game is more of a puzzle game than anything else, you gotta figure out how to handle situations all the time and there's multiple approaches more often than not, especially when it comes to the combat, though usually only one intended way to do it it seems when it comes to the more puzzley puzzle bits..

Amazing atmosphere, beautiful world, incredible world building

Beware the tutorial is very minimal and there's a lot of mechanics in the game that will never be directly explained to you but it's entirely on purpose.
Finding your way through the world also requires a lot of exploration and you will die a lot. If you just want to focus on exploring play the Monk if you want the normal Slugcat experience play the survivor.

I recommend spoiling yourself on the game as little as you can but if frustration really sets in or curiosity gets the best of you the wiki is very comprehensive on the game's world & story and the community has a lot of info on the controls & movement techs & world interactions.

Bought this to play co-op after hearing all about how amazing Divinity is for co-op play.
Everyone who ever pitched this as a great co-op experience is a damn liar, co-op is immensely frustrating if you don't take all the same speech perks as your partner as NPCs will 'reset' and treat every player as though they're in single player and dialogue can only be initiated with one player at a time except in rare exceptions where the "player" has to make a "choice" so both players have to weigh in on that "choice" even when you were never part of the conversation. This is exacerbated by the dialogue being very long winded and flowery, which is all well and good if you're playing alone but when someone else has to sit and wait for you it gets frustrating.

The only part that feels even remotely engaging in co-op is the combat but everywhere else outside of that you have to take turns being the "main character" or just follow your buddy around like an NPC until someone attacks you.

Darksiders 3 is a bit of a black sheep in my opinion. It departs from the brawly beat-em-up style of gameplay for a rather punishing dodge-timing style of combat and a souls-like death and weapon upgrade system and to a lesser extent the leveling system. Every time you die instead of a game-over and a reload you respawn at the nearest serpent hole (vulgrim's shop locations) and drop all of your soul-lurches and the many weapons Fury can acquire are upgraded with a limited resource found around the world and to level up you must feed souls to Vulgrim in exchange for levels to increase either health, physical damage or arcane damage. On top of that Vulgrim has taken on his stingiest form yet and every time you purchase a consumable from him the price increases by a fixed amount permanently.

Honestly I don't like this and the only reason I completed the game was because the devs added a "classic" mode to the game that reduces the burstiness of enemy damage. It also removes the animation for using items but that is hardly anything to write home about in my opinion.

Despite this rather glaringly bad combat system exploring the game world is relatively fun. Fury has a number of entertaining ways to traverse the world as she acquires "hollows" that give her elemental powers and new weapons, fire allowing her to launch herself into the air, ice letting her walk on water, lightning letting her glide and 'force' letting her turn into a morph-ball and glue to special walls, its a good bit of fun and there's a fair amount to explore.

Story has never really been a strong suit of the Darksiders games but this one kicks up the weirdness in the dialogue department some somewhat disjointed and strange line reads from time to time but its not the worst and only sometimes distracting.

While the game presents itself initially as an open exploratory game where you can go more or less where you like this is something of a lie, the way enemies are balanced very much forces you down certain paths as going down the wrong way will run you straight into packs of enemies that 3-shot Fury.

On that topic Fury is hilariously fragile, she dies faster than War or Death by a country mile, while even Death is no where near as tanky as War could be he had ways to keep himself alive throughout a battle while Fury is a glass cannon, only able to heal with limited healing items or a boot-leg estus flask. Unfortunately in the default game mode Fury doesn't feel like she has as much kick to her as she should for how fragile she is, again why I recommend switching to "classic".

All in all I think this is by far the most flawed of all the Darksiders games and it really feels like the developers were trend chasing on the coat-tails of the souls-borne craze. A shame because I like the soulsborne series and I like Darksiders, sucks to see one mangle itself trying to be something its not.

This game is effectively free and a work of art, recommend buying it absolutely, Team Cherry deserves the pocket change it'll cost you to buy this.

Playing it I'm not so sure on.
I haven't played/beaten 100% of the game though I have "106%" completion but what I haven't beaten is so incredibly difficult and exhausting to attempt that I've been forced to give up. (Think 10 minute long gauntlets with little to not time to gather your senses, seemingly endless boss rushes, repetitive bosses with steadily increasing damage until you're effectively forced to never get hit and battles that are like an extremely dangerous and one-sided game of tennis, waiting for your turn to hit the ball while evading all kinds of hazards.)
If you're not a metroidvania champion you will not be able to beat a not insignificant amount of this game's content including being completely locked out of one if not more of the game's possible alternate endings.
Give it a try sure but if you find yourself bouncing against a wall for hours on end until your fingers ache and your head hurts, maybe just call it quits. Significant chunks of this game was made for a very niche audience that craves brutal unforgiving difficulty.
On the upside the community is much less toxic and elitist (almost not at all) than other "hardcore games", and others who have beaten the game are pretty happy to lend tips and advice whenever things get tough, but for all their good intentions the game can simply be too sadistic for many players to handle so for many all those helping hands will be for nought.

I hope that Silksong isn't as miserably brutal as many parts of this game tends to be.
My fingers still ache.

Hacking is immensely hit or miss, it's very easy to both end up incapable of ever hacking anything and to have hacks be unavoidable, with enough range it's impossible to counteract or trace a hack and if you don't have enough space to give distance traces will instantly detect and counteract any hack attempts.
Most hacking abilities are worthless but some are utterly game breaking or extremely annoying.
You will constantly be spammed with notifications about being hacked, your hacks being traced and when you have idle hacks.

The umbral choir are neat, their theme track is superb and they look amazing but they're hobbled by how clunky hacking is since it's core to their faction mechanics.
Hacking should have been unique to them and less impactful.
