This is the sort of game I've always dreamed of, the perfect balance of combined arms combat in a space opera setting. It elegantly combines satirical comedy, intense action and engaging teamwork in a very decisive package.

The game never fails to compromise in it's vision in terms of the experience of being a helldiver. The gunplay is accented around a very grounded and weighted realism which makes you feel powerful but the movement and health mechanics quickly reminds you of your fragility as an individual and creates an excellent balance between the player and the enemies.

The game is fantastic in terms of weapon variety, customisation for your character and the wide variety of stratagems available. With the provision of multiple warbonds since release it feels like even after 50 hours I've barely tapped into the available progression which is difficult to say for other games where you are expected to top out on battlepasses.

There's also a lot to be said for the enemy variety. These often challenge you to create and adapt play styles and also consider team composition in terms of what weapons and stratagems you bring to each engagement.

The game is highly cinematic and very enjoyable to look at. Between the dopamine rush of the combat the environments on offer to battle over are varied and provide a lot of variation to the gameplay. All of this ties back into the overarching narrative and cosmic scale combat which very few games aspire to let alone accomplish to this degree. Over the course of the game I've come to enjoy killing the Automatons more but both factions provide their own challenges and dynamics.

Following on from this point; It's so impressive to me to see the way the addition of new enemy types, weapons and stratagems have been added and how these influence and effect the gameplay and how these additions are added so organically. The game feels like it's constantly evolving and growing and I'm really excited to continue playing as the developers add more features.

I feel especially delighted to recommend this game given the recent backtrack with regards to PSN requirement for the game. It's very difficult to find a great game like this which doesn't require some additional login or sign up and when it's every game it starts to get grating. I really hope this becomes a learning point for future publishers about what PC audience expect and appreciate as part of the consumer experience.

It's hard to put succinctly how much I enjoy this game. How I think about the game when I'm not playing it, and when I do play the experience never disappoints. Perhaps it's the way it taps into a childhood nostalgia for the perfect game with the grand scale and epic action which I always imagine would be delivered by games someday.
