I love everything about this game. I've been a fan of the Hexcells games for a while, and Infinite is the polished, refined culmination of the series.

This is the perfect puzzle game. The puzzles are 100% logically solvable. You never need to randomly guess. All the information is there. The challenge is in interpreting it. And when you eventually 'get it', that AHA! moment is so satisfying!

The infinite puzzle generator is very nice, and the hand-crafted user-made puzzles have some real gems!

I _loved_ HexCells. I bought this on the strength of HexCells. But SquareCells is a **DRAMATIC** step down in nearly every way.

I'm colorblind. This is nearly unplayable. There are only tiny indicators to show that a square is selected to remain. HexCells did not have this problem, as the entire hex would change to a distinctly different color.

The text is tiny and pixelated. Parts are unreadable on a standard laptop resolution. HexCells did not have this problem.

I could, on launch, add keyboard bindings to add/break cells in HexCells. For me this is a huge boon in ease of play. Clicking mouse buttons is painful. So, being able to type on the keyboard with my left hand made HexCells a joy.

SquareCells does not have this option.

This game is a sad joke compared to how GREAT HexCells was. If you're looking for more HexCells-level goodness, you won't find it here. And the fact that it hasn't improved in the half-decade since its release is very telling.

I liked this a lot, although I wish I had known I was stepping on a one-way path toward the end.

This was already a borderline game. Rough, but with some good parts. Good enough to _try it out_ at least.

Reality Pump seems determined to ruin it utterly though.

It is no longer worth buying. And if this is Reality Pump's current direction, none of their games will be worth buying.

A lot of negative opinions on this game, but I enjoyed it. 994 points on my first game (missing the final achievement by only 6 points!)

Fairly simple puzzle game, but you have to think about where you're placing fruit, and what fruit it will turn into when matched, and where you want _that_ fruit to appear. So, you have to plan a lot more in this game than in your average match-3.

It does have a few bugs, and the small window has its own frustrations (Steam popups cover too large a portion), but overall I enjoyed the time I spent with it.

I received this game for free though. I'm not sure I would feel the same way about it if I had picked it up for $1. But on sale, or in a bundle, I don't regret the _time_ spent on it.

Launcher is a buggy mess and keeps deleting the game files. According to their forums, this is happening with lots of people, all of whom are told to contact support directly.

So I did, but support is virtually non-existant. Here's a summary of the conversation:

Me: The launcher deleted all the game files. I redownloaded the game and watched it happen a second time.

Support: We have experienced some server issues recently that were beyond our control but these issues should now be resolved.

Me: I really don't think "server issues" are the reason the launcher is deleting all the game files. It said it found a previous installation of Paladins, and that the Steam version would now be used, but there WAS no previous installation, it's JUST the Steam version. It's accidentally deleting the Steam version. Your detection is bugged, and it's making it impossible to play the game.

Support: Exit out of STEAM. Then right click your STEAM icon to and select the 'Run as administrator' option.

Me: ... The game is gone. I really don't think trying to run it as administrator is going to bring the files back.

Support: To further assist you, please follow the previously requested instructions.

(and so on)

Support appears to be on a script they cannot deviate from, and "The launcher deletes all the game files for some people" isn't on that script, so the problem is not being addressed.

In summary: I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS GAME to people on metered Internet, as you may have to download it repeatedly (if it ever even launches).

This is my kind of game. 'Cell' games on Kongregate, I've played them all. One of my favorite genres.

This particular implementation is very lackluster.

ZERO configuration options. Volume controls? Nope. Resolution doesn't fit on your laptop screen? TOO BAD. Colorblind? TOO BAD. Want to play a different map? TOO BAD. There's no menu to speak of.

The controls are also buggy. You might have one action selected, and it will deselect randomly. Or not count your clicks randomly.

And it has mistakes in the instructions (what little instructions there even are). "Fleets cost 3 gold" Nope, they cost 4.

AND the poor layout design. The bottom is cut off on laptop screens, so definitely put the DONE bottom there (also on the right hand side, so even on screens where it fits, it is right where the Steam popups are going to cover it).

I *WANT* to love this game. It's one of my favorite genres. But this is just bad, unpolished junk. There are far better free games like this out there.

I really want to like this game. This is one of my favorite genres, but R.O.O.T.S. is not a good example of the type. It brings to mind, and compares poorly against, other similar games.

The aesthetic is a little too close to Eufloria (trees on asteroids), and it plays a lot like Tentacle Wars (free flash game), both of which I loved. But Tentacle Wars had a lot of features that this sorely lacks.

  • Volume controls. Or really, any options at all.
  • Colorblind-friendliness. There have been levels in R.O.O.T.S. where I don't know who is winning. There's no way to distinguish between my trees and the enemy's.
  • More tactical options (R.O.O.T.S. basically has one: Send a root out, or don't).

(And, why does the title have periods in it? Does R.0.0.T.S. stand for something? It's not in the description anywhere)

Eufloria had a story; this doesn't. Tentacle Wars had MUCH more gameplay options. There may be *potential* for a good game here though. It's just not there yet, no matter how much I want it to be.
