I was gifted this game two years ago from a holiday giveaway.

Two years later, NeocoreGames revoked all keys from *two years ago* because they didn't like how the keys they actively generated and distributed for marketing/sales were used.

Can't recommend a game from a dev who robs people, the literal Grinch stealing my holiday joy.

After playing through the first two games without a problem, this one in particular crashed multiple times - which is a huge problem in a game without manual saves (and autosaves can be over an hour apart).

Then I reached a spot about 2/3 through with two battles in a row (one a two part wave battle) which crashed on me three times in a row right after beating both battles.

At that point I gave up and watched the rest on YouTube, an incredibly unfortunate ending after playing through a trilogy where the story is heavily dependent on player choices. Ug.

This is my idle game. I like it.

The plot's setting is grimdark, but with enough humor and absurdity to make it disturbing fun instead of simply depressing. Think Swift's 'A Modest Proposal' in a capitalistic nightmare world where each corporation has its own uniquely horrible version of eating babies for fun and profit.

As to the game itself - Limbus company has gacha elements (battlepass/daily log in rewards), so normally I would not recommend. However, the story's just too dang good, and the gameplay is the perfect mix of some challenging battles, and some rewarding of tactical setups, but also providing plenty of minimal-attention battles for grinding rewards in the background while doing something else. The devs also seem to be quite responsive to community feedback, and are decent at providing FTP users with enough stuff to get by.

I wouldn't recommend jumping into Limbus Company off the bat though. Play Lobotomy Corp / Library of Ruina first - dozens or hundreds of hours of already complete games set in this universe to see if you like the story and world enough to support a live service game.

Fair warning for those games though (and this one): The grind is real.

Short(ish), fun, time-traveling adventure puzzler with a neat story and bumping soundtrack. Each area/puzzle is mostly independent, but with light metroidvania aspects (unlock powers that allow you to reach a new area, along with finding collectibles and a bit more dialogue in old areas).

The story and puzzle scenarios are entertaining: ridiculous masquerade-ball murders that you see from a variety of angles (mostly by peeping from closets and keyholes). The gameplay is pretty well polished. And best of all (for some), the game doesn't overstay its welcome - this isn't a game that will keep you banging your head on the wall for days or digging through endless guides for abstract solutions. If you're stuck, just eavesdrop more or try clicking nearby objects, and you'll generally stumble on the solution.

The only real issue is that there's a number of collectibles and no easy way to track which ones you've found and where the ones you're missing might be... and you need them all to unlock the lore entries as well as (SPOILER: the bonus ending).

Still, the game is nifty. Would have been a perfect rental back in the glory days of blockbuster - play it over a relaxing weekend, enjoy with no regrets.

I rate Vault of the Void up there with Slay the Spire and Monster Train as one of my top three deckbuilders with longlasting replayability.

Balanced design with a wide variety of playstyles is key for me in these games. To that end, Vault features four champions with unique decks plus two different starting configurations for each. There's also optional scaling difficulty levels plus a ton of 'Challenge Coins' to achieve that greatly alter how you play by adding an additional fixed boon and bane at the start of your run.

On top of all that, the awesome developer has continued patching the game with balances and free updates well beyond what I would consider a 'finished' game - which is a huuuge plus in the current gaming environment of endless Early Access and broken releases.

And as the added cherry on top... the game is reasonably priced. Even the cosmetic bonuses are all unlocked in-game rather than some ridiculous paid battlepass. If you're browsing the game's page to read this review and thus interested in the genre, I can't think of a single reason not to give Vault of the Void a shot.

I recently found myself on a cozy/farmgrind kick lately in anticipation of Stardew 1.6, involving Disney's Dreamlight Valley, Coral Island, My Time at Portia, and then Graveyard Keeper. Things I could enjoy with something going on in the background, tuning in when something of interest happened.

This was clearly the worst of the bunch - even with Coral Island's unfortunately terrible '1.0' release (it should still be in beta).

Graveyard Keeper starts off fun, the setting is great, but... there's no payoff. The game is built around grinding and fetch quests, but very little satisfaction for either.

In game explanations or progression hints are almost nonexistent making google/wiki mandatory for even the smallest of tasks - much more so than in similar games, where wiki can enhance or streamline playthroughs or be a handy reference, but is not necessary for every single material in every single quest.

Quality of life features are also sorely lacking (movement speed, inventory space, storage, accessibility features ie streamlining button mashing for repetitive tasks like picking up crops - all are *incredibly* limited*), making the game feel painful even for a genre about about grinding.

There's no difficulty to speak of (time is irrelevant), no character/relationship growth, and no reason to do things more efficiently or completely, or focus on areas you enjoy - you're going to have to do everything in the end, often far more than you wanted to. The grind is the game, and the game is the grind.

I wanted to like the game. it seems like I should like the game. Unfortunately, I did not.

This game was clearly made for consoles (controller basically necessary) with a buggy, crash-happy mess of a pc port. Do not purchase.

Have to disable the forced 2k launcher to prevent insane stuttering, and even once doing so and playing on lowest possible settings, the game crashes constantly.

Am going to try to push through with many many MANY restarts but would never ever ever recommend someone else go through this pain.

Great gameplay, but garbage code and the publishers clearly do not care.

POST-ENDGAME EDIT: To be clear: This game is fantastic. Story, Deckbuilding, Strategy, RPG, and Hades-like progression with hero chat tidibits and new cosmetic/power progression as a reward after every mission, even up past end game (which is easily dozens of hours).

HOWEVER: My minimum expectations for a $60+ AAA game are that it will work. This did not.

When the top reviews specify bug-fixes just for the game to be playable (such as disabling the 2k launcher) - this is a problem. When the game crashes every two hours or two missions, unless I fully restart my computer - this a problem.

The game is great. But it was made for consoles. The PC version was not appropriately QA'd.

If you want to charge $60 for a PC game... you need to make it actually *work*.

After the awesomesauce of the Devs first game, I was really really hoping for another Monster Train, even if it was to be in a slightly different rogue-ish genre.

This isn't it, at least not right now (I tried 7/23, still very Early Access).

Remember Quest 64, or another old RPG (or MMO) when 3D was new and fancy? Running around in a circle field to position yourself during your turn, then stopping to choose what spell to cast? This is that, but stuffed into a multiplayer rogue-like package. Free roam movement before stopping to use abilities, then ending your turn outside of the enemy attack zones.

The 'free roam' movement really seems to slow things down more than make them enjoyable (you have to place your characters juuuust so to make abilities hit right while minimizing movement points used), and multiplayer bogs things down even more so.

On top of this, the multiplayer focus really doesn't do it for me, especially when devs really seem to want to focus on it simply to sell cosmetics (yes.... there's already a cosmetic BattlePass.)

With a *lot* of love Inkbound might be a fine game someday, and I do hope it makes it there. I won't write off the game fully, out of my love for their first well polished hit (Oh Monster Train, how I adore thee). Unfortunately, without a great deal of care and possibly a few redesigns, I doubt that this will be a game for me.

Was getting tired of AC Valhalla after a hundred+ hours with no end in sight, so played this instead.

Best decision ever.

Banners of Ruin is... fine.

The game has nice animations, graphics, and production. However, it doesn't really scratch the 'one more game' itch of other roguelike deckbuilders, and seems to be somewhat lacking in the lore, balance, enemy/card variety, and entertainment factors of similar games. And on top of all this, it moves incredibly slowly (combats are very grindy).

BoR is worth trying if you love the genre and have played the stuffing out of everything else, but I just can't recommend it for most players. I started losing steam during the first playthrough (which is several hours long).

Sidenote: Devs, please don't take this too badly. If a sequel ever came out with a little more focus on balance, variety, and most importantly game tempo, I'd probably buy in and give it a try.
