In a market saturated with videogames that try to take themselves seriously (Not that I have a problem with that), EDF4.1 is a pleasant break. Combine massive swarms of massive enemies, hundreds of devastating weapons and 4 unique classes with unique playstyles, and sprinkle in cheese dialog and 'B-Grade' story and you get Earth Defense Force 4.1. The only thing that could make it better is some kind of modding support so I can create truly bizarre and devastating weapons that make the stock ones seem sane. And even then the publisher has released a statement that implies that some kind of modding support interests them. The developers clearly had fun when making this game, and it shows.

For a port, it performs splendidly and the control scheme is very comfortable with a keyboard and mouse. I was expecting extreme lag issues, but it works just fine on my slightly old computer. While the developers and publishers have been pretty silent on issues and questions in general, one must consider the language barrier as they are based in Japan. It does not appear they have a professional translator able to relay every report sent their way yet.
