I wish I could say that you should ignore the reviews that are negative, and thats because some of the negative reviews this game gets are the generic "minecraft clone" reviews despite the fact that the game launched in retail 2 years before minecraft even had its first public pre-alpha. However the overwhelming majority of reviews this game gets are that its dead.

I honestly had some terrible experiences with the "veteran" players of the game (who literally banned you if you had a BL ID in the 100000+ range), but once those got drove out because of how "disgusted" they were by the new players that joined, the game was good. I got a good 5 years out of it. I fondly remember playing Render-Man, L4B, Throwmod, and Slayer often and loving every moment. But the problem is that during summer on a weekend this game gets 68 players. I miss when this game got 600+. You were able to enjoy everything and see what the game had to offer, but now people have lost their interest in the game which began its very slow death in 2015, and each year it lost around 100 players and now we are at this point in 2019. By 2020 this game should have 4 players in 19 servers at the top of the server menu.

If this was 2 or 3 years ago, I would definitely suggest buying this game, it has more stuff to do than minecraft and is easier to modify. In addition, its community wasn't horrible as well as not dead. But in 2019, I would strongly recommend that you not touch this game.

Original review was posted in spring 2019, and complained about the AR being slightly annoying to use and some of the level design

Im really happy to say that every issue with the game since then has been completely fixed. It really is a great game! I absolutely can not wait to see where this game goes in the future

Pros
-Portals when players use them properly to trick and flank enemies and not camp like a scumbag in certain gamemodes
-The novelty of the game
-The well balanced weapons (except the shotgun which is literally just a railgun that can only kill halfway across the map in 1 hit and not the entire map)

-cons
-Portals when theyre used to camp by scummy players. Ruins the swat gamemode
-The SWAT gamemode not making the battle rifle a pickup. It would be so much better if the carbine was the only starting weapon you had and the BR was at every pickup area on the map
-This is more of a personal issue but people who played in what I think was the games alpha (When it had a different name and HUD design) dont get ANYTHING to recognize them but beta players do.
-Some of the gamemodes just dont mix well with the idea of the game
-The fact that this game cant decide how many portal spaces should be on a map. Like there are some where portaling is used for transport mostly and others where theres literally portal spaces EVERYWHERE on the map making any traditional sense of the maps design obsolete as enemies can pop in from anywhere behind you (looking at you pantheon)

(THIS REVIEW COVERS MY THOUGHTS ON DELETED SCENES ONLY)

Fun game in general. Should be treated as a basic tutorial for 1.6, but it's got some issues

>Some levels require you to use specific grenades and specific spots. Since the game refuses to give you any more than what you spawn with on Difficult (This is the only difficulty I've played on), and since some missions such as 5 have the player placed in a position where you feel inclined to use them, if you do, you gotta start the entire mission all over again.

If you have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ aim, the mandatory SSG08 sections will absolutely get you to hate this game. Since I have decent aim these aren't a problem for me, but I can see how these will make some people angry.

There are occasional spots where you can get killed because you got stuck in the map.

The Arctic Avengers had a lot of missed potential to develop a story to this game. I think the reason why this game wasn't successful was because it had no story. The first opening missions could have been an introduction, and then the Arctic Avengers stronghold and more missions themed around their plot could have served very well.

Other than these, the game feels and works pretty solidly. Its just playing with bots on Half Life maps. I wouldn't recommend it though, just buy Source, GO, or 1.6. and have fun on those. All have great communities and workshop community gamemode support (except 1.6, maps and stuff for that game are a little less straight forward due to the age of 1.6)

This game is great and doesn't take that long to learn as long as you use common sense. However, there is one single issue I have thats so obnoxious that it makes me hate the game. -

Once youre in a server youre fine.

But getting connected to one is a pain in the balls. Sometimes it works flawlessly, sometimes it doesnt. When it doesnt, you find yourself restarting the game 7-9 times until it finally lets you.

Portal is a "FPS" Puzzle game that revolves around a woman named Chell partaking in a test track from Aperture using a portal gun. Eventually throughout the course of the game you will start to pick up on some things until you come to the conclusion That everybody is dead and the voice speaking to you is an insane AI hellbent on killing you through indirect methods

You will also come to realize that this game takes place either shortly before or after Half Life's 7 hour war and is connected to the Half Life universe.

Its a solid and short game that will leave you wanting to play its sequel the instant you finish it. Strongly recommend

This game is something you can not get mad at or stay mad at.

It has a perfectly balanced weapon set and has that Half Life deathmatch charm with a plastic toy military theme.
If you enjoy HLDM, get this game now.
