Quite a lovely new set of 10 (12 if you count the demo puzzles) new puzzles.
Just a nice calming way to pass time during a lunch break or before going to bed- relax and unwind.

Okay, before you get all salty- I do not recommend the DEMO for anyone who was hoping for a game with survival elements or who are hoping for "Firewatch 2". The Demo (game) is just not what I was hoping for or thought it would be. It might be a wonderful game for you.

Too empty- too much of the world feels empty, with no reward for exploring it or taking the little side paths. Just more trees and soil and logs and rocks, no secrets found.
I took a break for a bit after going to the visitor's center and getting the map on the desk, but when I resumed later, the walkie-talkie dialogue was opposite of what was going on in the game. The person I was talking to told me that because I had no map (which was in the character's hands just moments before and that I had previously told him that I had) I would just have to follow the path. What? Dude- I have the map in my hands right now.
I was told to go to the ranger shack, that there would be stuff there I could use, and I had several keys, but apparently I didn't have the one I needed to get into the shack. Even though I had picked up and inspected everything I found (after exploring things there and making the other guy on the walkie-talkie impatient, apparently?) at the starting location and the visitor center.
At the picnic table, I find cans of soda, talk to the other guy on the radio, who tells me to just take one since it would be a long night. But I am given no option to pick one up or drink one, but a beer bottle at the other end of the table is interactable. Seriously confusing why I am told to grab a soda but only given the option to drink a beer.
If I am supposed to be guided through a story, items I need should be revealed more clearly, or hints given about where I need to go to find them. Dialogue should not conflict with what I have already done or already picked up and used in the game.

I like walking sims with a mystery and story to follow, but this one just left me feeling like I was being pranked (and we won't even get into the crow jump scare that was totally unneeded with seriously dramatic music leading up to it). I was expecting Sasquatch, not a crow. If the Demo is trying to show me how the game will lead me through the story, it did a bad job of it, IMHO.

*** Accessibilty***
The brightness setting on the options menu seems to do nothing- I was walking through muddy darkness with a weak flashlight, with white dots for things I could interact with but not really see. Not great for anyone with vision issues, and the size of text on things you could read was tiny, washed out, and would make a screen reader just say "Nope, can't read that". Poor accessibility for anyone without 20/20 vision and cat-like night vision.
No UI or text scaling, no colorblindness setting for folks with any form of colorblindness.
The voice acting was good, but if you are Deaf or Hoh- that's not going to do much for you, and there was no text speed slider or adjustment and no way to go back and read anything you may have missed that I could find.

Probably a fine game, but not for me- lack of accessibility options (which I need) will make this a no-go for me.

Ah, yes, now I remember why I bounced off this game in the past.
I really do love mahjong, but this game has no difficulty settings, randomly deals you crap boards that have no moves from the start of play, and scores you on how fast you make matches, with a very short timer. Not great- mahjong as a "twitchy" game, if you have sow reflexes, while filling up your "energy" meter that lets you use power-up extremely slowly while eating huge chunks of the bar if you use them. You have to restart over and over and over, and it's just not fun. I'll keep trying since I want to finish as many games on my backlog as possible, but I really can't recommend this game for anyone looking for a chill and relaxing game of mahjong.

I get what they were going for, but I just can't recommend this game to any of my friends who want something casual and zen- this ain't it.

Charming and sweet puzzle platformer.
The platforming is not punishing, but you will have to repeat some jumps and drops multiple times to get the placement just right to land where you want or need to be.
No "perfect timing" needed, but lots of "perfect placement" instead.
The game is well suited for people like me who only play in short sessions, you can save at any point- but you do not have old saves to reload. Make manual copies of your save if you want, though the game gives you multiple chances to go back and complete things for achievements right up until the very end.

Accessibility

The game has a nice bunch of accessibility option, including a colorblind mode that *should* work for the most common forms of colorblindness.

No Text or UI scaling, but the text in the game is fairly large, and there is a setting to increase contrast that affects text and everything else in the game.

All speech in the game is delivered via text and the closed captioning is well done- better than many other games that have it.

The mouse "squeaking" achievement is not too difficult even if you can't hear anything in the game- just spam the RMB to make the mouse squeak repetitively.

There *are* flashing lights with the mouse when you shock things and the Kibblins- may or may not be an issue for people with photosensitive seizure disorders, it did trigger a few headaches for me (chronic migraines)- so playing in short sessions was important for me to be able to stop if I felt a headache coming on.

**The biggest issue is the camera- it is set very low to the ground, is very loose and wonky. I t will drop. spin, can go back and forth rapidly if you get into a corner and get stuck. Turning off auto-recentering did not help much. Made me dizzy at times could be a rel issue with people prone to seasickness or with vertigo.**

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All in all, the game is a hidden gem, not perfect, somewhat grindy, and not many good walkthroughs or guides here on Steam though there are some "decent" walkthrough videos (though many of them are speedruns which can be confusing if you don't know the map really well).
More of an exploration/collection/puzzle game with light platforming.
Well worth it at full price, even better on sale.

Despite it taking me a while to finish to 100%, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Really enjoyable exploration and discovery game, with very light survival elements.
(If you are looking for "hardcore" survival, this may not be the game for you- higher difficulties are indeed more difficult, but the survival elements remain the same, with only your Oxygen, Thirst, and Hunger elements running down faster.)

It's a beautiful world, but it is a bit buggy. You have to enjoy exploiting bugs like falling through terrain and being able to see underneath- and finding things that may have been harder to see up top. (I love finding cracks in invisible walls and seeing if I can get off-map or travel below the world). If you are intolerant of even minor bugs and visual glitches- well. this one ain't for you, because it has a fair number. Very small dev team (2 people I think?) so they are likely only focusing on game-breaking bugs when they are found.

This is really more of a base-building/exploration/discovery game, not really what I consider "true survival".

I will say I have enjoyed it far more than I expected to, with almost 107 hours into it at the time of this review. And I expect to put a good number of hours into it after this, to get all achievements, and then start a new game in the DLC world.

If you are looking for "perfect"- this game may not be for you. If you are looking for an engaging grind fest creating a world from scratch and watching it blossom and grow (and you are tolerant of funny bugs that sometimes can be exploited)- this may be for you, Story isn't a focus, but it is there if you want to discover all of the hidden bases and messages of those who came before but did not survive... story is there, and is pretty good once you start piecing it together.

A hidden gem, that is a little rough around the edges, I guess?

Not recommended, because it was honestly one of the worst games published by Artifex Mundi, IMHO, and they have been publishing some real stinkers over the last several years.

The puzzles were not challenging, many were far to easy, even on Expert Mode. While others were pure trial and error because the clues made no sense. The hidden object scenes were okay, I guess, but several reused the same scene for separate puzzles.

The artwork is fine, basically the same as almost every other HOG/HOPA from this time frame. The voice acting seemed dull and forced auite a bit of the time. It had no soul to it, and I guess I feel like the entire game had no soul to it. The story was too choppy, lacked little details that would have added something interesting- the plot twist was entirely too predictable.

Playtime from start to finish was 3.9 hours on Expert Mode- the additional time you see is from idling the game for Trading cards, years ago. I got the game in a cheap bundle somewhere, so I likely only paid a buck or 2 for it. I still feel like I overpaid. The whole experience was a few levels below "meh" for me, though it was a pretty quick 100% achievements game, if that's what you are looking for. If you are looking for a casual HOG/HOPA that makes you work your brain a bit and has a reasonably interesting story- probably best to leave this one behind.

A fairly short and sweet, but weird and profanity-laced point & click, with some logic puzzles to solve.
Note- "profanity-laced" means "Tons Of Profanity", if that's what gets yer rocks off.
It fits the game, only because it fits the games this dev makes.

Yes, Monty Python/Benny Hill vibes, but with a lot more swearing.

Felt a lot more logical, the puzzles made more sense than they did in The Procession to Calgary, maybe a bit better than Four Last Things.
Anyhow, I enjoyed it and will be replaying The Procession To Calgary to 100% all of JR's games.

There are some puzzles that are timered, and some bugs with interaction buttons bugging out at times. No softlocks, but I did have to save and quit a few times to deal with the bugged out buttons. I'm not the fastest with arthritic hands, so some things (the Magic Flute in particular) did take me a few tries to get the timing right.
Absolutely not a game for anyone who can't deal with a on of profanity and classical-painting style gratuitous nudity. Definitely not a game for young kids to play or watch someone else playing.
Definitely some pokes with a sharply pointed stick at religion, politics (generalized), capitalism, and oligarchs. Don't get your "Is it Woke? Does it have DEI?!?!" panties in a tight bunch- it's not like that, though some folks will surely find a way to claim it is these days. It has a ton of violence and gore, so you anti-woke folks will probably enjoy it too.

I enjoyed it enough to say full price is fair, but better if you can get it in a cheaper bundle or at a discount.

I really enjoyed h this cheeky little point & click.

Loved the art style.
Loved the sound fx and the voice acting was absolutely fantastic.
The story was creepy but not scary, tons of mood. and great environmental storytelling going on.
The humor was cringy in a good way- lots of pop culture references- some that GenX will get without having to Google it, some geared to Millennial senses of humor, some very Gen Z. The cheekiness and the overdone cringe was what made it funnier to me. No deeply hidden subtle humor in this one.

Some adultish situations and language, so probably not great for young kids, but pre-teens and teens? No real problems, I think.

I see some folks saying none of the characters were interesting or relatable, but I found them all to be quite relatable, even the annoying ones (because we all have some people that we love but who annoy the heck out of us in our lives, don't we?).

Accessibility
Text has good contrast and is of a good size- but there is no Text or UI scaling- keep that in mind if you have vision issues, and changing resolutions can cause some elements you need to see and use drop below the screen edges. You may need to use a magnifier program to make things larger if needed- I did not test any, so I apologise- I cannnot say if they will be truly helpful.
I played on a 34" 2560x1440 monitor in fullscreen, wearing my bifocals, and had no issue. But there are some fonts that are used that were more difficult to read, and could be problematic for someone using a screen reader or with certain forms of dyslexia.

Can be played with one hand using only a mouse *except* for needing to use the space bar to bring up all interactive spots at once (you can see them by hovering over them as well, but you will need to search every scene carefully in that case).

UI can be a bit wonky- some interactive spots and the indicators for them can overlap when multiple intractable objects are close together, and the label can sometimes stick to your mouse cursor causing one object to appear to have 2 labels. Could be a bit confusing for some.

All voice acting is also displayed as text, so the game should be playable for Deaf and HoH gamers, though you may miss some of the ambient sound and audio clues/cues.

None of the puzzles were really difficult for me, but for some folks with certain types of ASD or ADHD, they may be frustrating. Lots of missable achievements as well- use a guide (there are several good ones here on Steam and online).

**There are some visual effects and lighting effects that create flashing or strobing, and many scenes are either very dark or very bright. May cause issues for people with some forms of photo-sensitive neurological to conditions (mainly easily triggered seizure disorders and migraines).**

No fast reflexes needed, no timed chases or puzzles, so you can take your time working through things at your own pace.

The game does autosave, but there are some scenes you cannot save in until a cutscene plays, and making lots of save points is recommended so you can go back and replay a scene if needed- again, there are guides that can help you with getting 100% in a single playthrough.

All in all, I really did enjoy my time with this game, and absolutely recommend it for people who like mildly creepy, weird, some cringy humor, and light puzzle action.

Really cozy little builder.
No combat, no raids, no time limits, no quests or quotas.

Just gridless building of a tiny medieval little town, or a lone castle. or a farm village- whatever you want.
Controls take some getting used to, and because it it gridless- it can be tricky to line things up at times. So you may have to fiddle with things at times.
For the time being, how you decorate yards or balconies and such is limited, but the Dev Diary just published promises to change that in the future.

Pet the sheep and just relax. If you want something high action and filled with combat- this ain't it.
It you want to just chill and create, no pressures- this is a great way to do that.

Absolutely enjoyed this DLC content.
Instead of a new map, you are working for/with a drilling company or their drilling rig.
You will visit all of the maps from the base game (no Pale Reach stuff).

The story is weird (in a good way), and you meet new characters that you have to interact with on the rig.

New fish, new equipment, new dangers, and a smug corporate chad you and the crew on the rig have to deal with and outsmart. And a truly mad scientist who drives the main story, and throws in a creepy twist at the end.

Like the base game and The Pale Reach- you are going to grind to complete the quests. But you can also just chill and go fishing- just watch out for the new dangers in and around the oil slicks. The game can be confusing -upgrades and what fishing set-ups to use for specific fish, and what new bait types to have the Factory make for you to catch certain types of fish are a puzzle at times- and at the time of this review there aren't many good guides here on Steam or online that give you the info that isn't obvious in the game. There are some good Lets Plays on YouTube that can help, but you'll have to dig through to find the right ones, depending on what exactly you need to know. The community here is half helpful, half edgelord. Welcome to Gaming™, lol.

I have no problem with the price, I have put 15 hours into the DLC at the time of this review, and probably have another hour to fish all of the aberrations for the final achievement. I did get a small discount for having the base game and The Pale Reach DLC (bundle discount). For me, the money was well worth the experience I had, I absolutely recommend it if you enjoyed the base game, even more so if you enjoyed the Pale Reach DLC. The game shows the love and passion the devs put into it- and I look forward to their next game. Or their next DLC for this one- I want more!
